Product description
The 150 ml wide-mouth plastic jar is a clear PET container designed for creams, butters, balms, scrubs and other thicker products that are scooped out with fingers or a spatula. The wide opening makes filling and dispensing easy, the transparent wall shows the colour and texture of the product, and the plastic stays lightweight and shatterproof during shipping and bathroom use.
The container is suitable for cosmetic products and is also approved for direct food contact. It is therefore equally well-suited for homemade spice blends, bath salts, herbal loose mixes or sugar scrubs where cosmetic and food use overlap. Supplied without a lid — choose a cap according to the neck type stated in the specifications.
What makes the clear PET jar practical
- Wide mouth – fill thick creams, butters and scrubs without a funnel, scoop easily all the way to the bottom, and clean without effort.
- Transparency – both customer and maker can see the contents, colour and any change in texture, which helps with batch control and selling coloured or layered products.
- Light weight and durability – PET will not shatter if dropped; the jar is suitable for postal shipping, travel and humid bathroom environments.
- Single-material construction – the jar itself is made from one type of plastic, making it straightforward to recycle after use.
Which products is it suitable for
The 150 ml volume suits a standard body cream, body butter, thick hair or face mask, sugar or salt scrub, herbal ointment, deodorant cream or bath salt in a smaller pack size. Thanks to the wide mouth it also works for firmer products that could not be removed from a narrow-neck bottle, such as whipped butters, body balms or tooth-cleaning pastes.
It is less suitable for thin liquids that spill easily once opened, and for products sensitive to light where a clear container is a disadvantage. For such formulations it is better to choose an opaque or dark container, or to plan for storage in a box or away from direct light.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume is the volume the jar is designed to be filled to under normal conditions. The total brim-full volume is the physical capacity up to the neck and is larger. The difference between them provides headspace for the lid, any sealing insert and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim; otherwise the product will be pushed onto the thread when closing and the lid will not seal properly.
What to know before filling
Before first use, the jar is recommended to be washed, sanitised with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and left to dry completely. The same applies to repeated filling. PET can be washed and reused as long as it is not scratched or deformed.
PET is not intended for hot filling. Pour butters and balms only after they have partially cooled — when the mass is still liquid but no longer hot. Higher temperatures can deform or cloud the jar wall.
For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, it is recommended to test the behaviour of the plastic with the specific formula. Common creams, butters and scrubs are handled by PET without issue.
Fill thick cream or scrub to the nominal volume and wipe the neck clean before fitting the lid. A clean thread seals better and the container looks neat, including at the point of sale.
Caps with the same neck type as stated in the specifications, and ready-made jar and lid combinations, are available in the Handymade range. For your own combination we recommend checking the seal and the container's behaviour with your specific formulation. After use, the jar belongs in sorted plastic waste collection.
