Product description

Plastic jar 70/410, clear, 200 ml

A clear PET jar with a capacity of 200 ml and a wide neck is designed for thicker products that are scooped out with fingers or a spatula. The clear material reveals the colour and texture of the contents, making it especially suitable for products where appearance is part of the result – body butters, scrubs, bath salts and rich creams. PET is lightweight, shatter-resistant and handles packaging and shipping well, making it suitable for retail, gift packaging and postal dispatch.

The jar is certified for direct food contact as well as for use with cosmetic products. The same packaging can therefore be used for home cosmetics as well as dry or solid food products, such as herbal salts, dried blends, honey or home-made confectionery.

What the jar is suitable for

  • Body butters and balms – the wide neck allows easy scooping of firmer textures that would be difficult to dispense from a narrow bottle.
  • Salt and sugar scrubs – the jar holds several uses and the clear walls reveal the grain size and colour of the product.
  • Rich creams and masks – the 200 ml capacity corresponds to a larger size of body cream, mud mask or hair mask.
  • Bath salts and herbs – loose blends are easy to measure out from the jar and the container can be refilled once empty.
  • Food products – thanks to the food-contact certification, also suitable for nut butters, spices, honey or dried fruit.

The jar is not suitable for thin water-based or oil-based products. They cannot be scooped and the wide neck makes spilling likely. For a liquid serum, toner or oil, a bottle with a dropper or pump is more appropriate.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume for which the jar is designed under normal filling conditions. Total brim-full volume is the physical capacity of the container up to the neck and is always slightly larger. The difference provides clearance for the closure, any seal or liner, and for minor volume changes in the contents due to temperature changes. The jar should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Otherwise the contents will be forced under the lid when closing and may leak on warm days.

For whipped butters and airy textures, bear in mind that the product has a lower density than water. A 200 ml jar will therefore hold considerably less than 200 g of product. We recommend determining the label weight by weighing the filled container.

What is worth knowing

Preparation before first use. Even a new container should be washed, disinfected with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allowed to dry completely before use. Residual moisture in the container is the most common cause of premature spoilage in anhydrous products that would otherwise be stable without a preservative.

Filling temperature. PET is not designed to be filled with hot product. Allow balms, butters and creams to cool before filling, until they are still liquid or semi-solid but no longer hot. Hot contents may deform or cloud the container walls.

Sensitivity to certain ingredients. PET resists common cosmetic oils, butters, water-based and emulsion systems well. For products with a higher proportion of essential oils, solvents or a high alcohol content, we recommend verifying compatibility on a single unit, for example by storing a filled container for several weeks at room temperature.

Light and content stability. The clear container does not protect the contents from light. Products sensitive to light – those containing unstable vegetable oils, vitamins or natural pigments – should be stored away from direct sunlight, or an opaque or tinted container should be chosen instead.

Closure. Lids with the same neck type as specified in the product parameters, as well as ready-made jar and closure combinations, are available in the Handymade range. For a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal and the behaviour of the container with the specific formulation.

Labelling and reuse. The smooth wall allows a label to be applied around the circumference; container dimensions are listed in the product parameters. The jar can be reused after washing and disinfection. At the end of its service life, it should be placed in plastic recycling as PET.

For products with an aqueous phase (creams, gels, masks), the wide neck means repeated finger contact with the contents. The formulation must be reliably preserved and we recommend using a spatula for scooping.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 200 ml plastic jar suitable for food?
Yes, the jar is certified for direct food contact under normal conditions of use and is of food-grade quality. It is therefore also suitable for home-made herbal salts, spices, honey, nut butters or dried blends. Both food and cosmetic products are filled into a clean and dry container, so wash it thoroughly and allow it to dry before filling.
Can hot body butter be poured into a PET jar?
No, hot product should not be poured into a PET jar. Allow melted butter or balm to cool until it is still liquid but no longer hot to the touch. Otherwise the walls may deform or lose their clear appearance. For whipped butters, the product is filled only after whipping, when it has already cooled.
Does the clear jar protect the contents from light?
No, clear PET does not protect the contents from light. The advantage is that the customer can see the colour and texture of the product; the disadvantage is the sensitivity of the contents to sunlight. Products containing unstable oils, vitamins or natural pigments should therefore be stored in the dark, or an opaque or tinted container should be chosen instead.
Is the 200 ml jar also suitable for creams with an aqueous phase?
Yes, creams, gels and masks can be filled into the jar, but the formulation must be reliably preserved. The wide neck means that fingers repeatedly enter the container, introducing microorganisms into the product. Use a spatula for scooping and close the container immediately after use.
Can the plastic jar be reused?
Yes, a PET jar can be washed, disinfected with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol, allowed to dry and refilled after the contents have been used up. Before reusing, check that the container is not scratched or deformed and that the closure still seals. A container that no longer closes properly should be placed in plastic recycling.
