Product description

Plastic screw cap for jars and pots with a 70 mm thread seals cream, butter, scrub or balm to keep the contents protected from dust, drying out and accidental opening. The black colour is a practical choice: it blocks light coming from above, hides the contents from view and pairs well with both dark and light jars, making it suitable for a unified product line.

The cap is suitable for cosmetic products and for direct contact with food. It can therefore be used not only for body butters and creams, but also for home-made oils, honey, spices or dried herbs filled into jars with the same neck.

Key benefits

  • Reliable sealing – the screw thread holds the cap firmly on the neck and limits air access, which slows down the drying of creams and soft textures.
  • Light protection from above – opaque black plastic does not let light through the cap, which is appreciated for products with vegetable oils and sensitive active ingredients.
  • Low weight and durability – plastic does not break, withstands normal handling during filling and transport and does not add to the weight of shipments.
  • Food-grade and cosmetic quality – one cap serves both in a cosmetics workshop and in the home kitchen.
  • Easy opening – the wide diameter gives fingers a good grip, so it can be opened even with wet or greasy hands.

Use

The cap is placed on a jar or pot with the same thread type (stated in the parameters) and tightened by hand. It does not need to be tightened with force. A firm but moderate turn is sufficient to seal it, and the customer will be able to unscrew it comfortably later.

When filling, it is advisable to leave a small reserve below the neck: the jar is filled to the nominal volume, not to the rim. The nominal volume is the volume the container is designed for in normal filling. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume of the container up to the neck. The difference between them creates space for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If the jar is overfilled, the contents are pushed into the thread when screwing and the cap then seals less effectively.

Allow creams and butters poured hot to cool before sealing. Warm contents sealed under the cap will create condensation beneath it, which impairs the stability of the product and the appearance of the surface.

Jars and pots with the same neck type and ready-made container + closure sets are available in the Handymade range. When combining your own components, we recommend verifying the seal integrity and closure behaviour with the specific formulation, especially for thinner textures and products with a high oil content.

Suitable for products such as

  • Body butters and balms – a thick texture that is scooped with fingers requires a wide neck and a cap that is easy to open.
  • Creams and masks – facial and body creams in larger jars, where the priority is protection from drying out.
  • Sugar and salt scrubs – grainy products; wipe off any grain caught in the thread before sealing to ensure a good seal.
  • Solid shampoos, bath salts and decorative cosmetics – dry products that only need protection from dust and moisture.
  • Food – honey, syrups, dried herbs, spices or home-made oils in jars with the same neck.

Good to know

Before first use, it is advisable to wash the cap, rinse it with clean water and allow it to dry completely. For cosmetics, it is also recommended to disinfect the inside with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow it to evaporate. Moisture trapped in the cap is an unnecessary source of microbial contamination.

Plastic is sensitive to essential oils and solvents at higher concentrations. With standard creams and butters at normal fragrance dosage, no problem arises. With concentrated fragrance blends or products with a higher alcohol content, we recommend checking whether the inside of the cap changes in appearance or smell before a larger batch.

The cap is designed for reuse: once the jar is empty, it can be washed and used again, as long as the thread is not damaged.

The cap is not suitable for products stored at higher temperatures or filled hot. Plastic may change shape with prolonged heat and cease to seal properly.

At the end of its useful life, the cap belongs in sorted plastic waste. Simply empty it and remove any remaining contents.

Frequently asked questions

What jar does a 70/400 plastic cap fit?
The cap fits jars and pots with the same 70 mm thread type as stated in the parameters of this product. The neck type, not the container volume, determines compatibility, so one cap works for multiple jar sizes with the same neck. When combining with packaging from a different source, we recommend verifying the seal on a single unit first.
Is the plastic jar cap suitable for food?
Yes, the cap is suitable for direct contact with food as well as cosmetic products. It can be used for honey, syrups, dried herbs, spices or home-made oils filled into jars with the same neck. The cap meets both food-grade and cosmetic quality standards on its own. When assembling your own set, the suitability of the jar itself should also be verified.
Does the black cap protect the contents from light?
The black opaque cap does not let light through from above, so it protects the top layer of the contents. The sides and bottom of the jar are protected only by the material of the container itself, so for products sensitive to light we recommend combining it with an opaque or dark jar. With a transparent container, the cap alone does not block light.
How is the plastic cap cleaned and can it be reused?
The cap is washed with warm water and detergent, rinsed with clean water and left to dry completely. Before filling with cosmetics, disinfection with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol is recommended. As long as the thread is not damaged, it can be reused. With products with an intense fragrance, the plastic may partially retain the scent, so a new cap is more suitable for a new product.
Why should a jar with a cap not be filled to the brim?
The jar is filled to the nominal volume so that a reserve remains under the cap. The total volume to the brim is larger, and the difference creates space for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If overfilled, the contents are pushed into the thread, the cap seals less effectively and residue remains on the neck that is difficult to clean.
Can the plastic cap handle products with essential oils?
At standard fragrance dosage in creams, butters and scrubs, the plastic cap performs well. With concentrated fragrance blends, pure essential oils or products with a higher alcohol content, the plastic may change in appearance or smell over time. We therefore recommend checking the cap's behaviour with the specific formulation before a larger batch.
