Product description

This is a screw plastic cap for jars with a 70 mm thread, which seals the jar and protects the contents from dust and drying out. It is suitable for creams, body butters, balms, scrubs, masks or solid shampoos — that is, for products that are scooped from the jar with fingers or a spatula and require a wide neck.

The cap is made of polyolefin plastic (PE/PP), which is lightweight, unbreakable and resistant to common cosmetic raw materials. It is suitable for contact with cosmetic products and is also suitable for direct contact with food, so it can be used on jars containing homemade pastes, bath salts, dry blends or herbal ointments prepared in the kitchen.

Key properties

  • Wide 70 mm thread – matches common cream and butter jars, making it easy to pair with jars of the same neck type from the Handymade range.
  • Easy opening and closing – the screw cap opens with a single turn, which is practical for everyday use and when filling larger batches.
  • Durable material – polyolefins withstand contact with oils, butters, emulsions and water-based gels without changing shape or colour.
  • Suitable for cosmetics and food – one cap covers both homemade cosmetics production and the storage of food preparations.
  • Low weight – does not add to parcel weight when shipping and makes handling easier during packaging.

Use and combination with a jar

The cap is used with jars that have the same neck type as stated in the product parameters. It is placed on the neck and tightened by hand. Forcing it tight is not necessary and is not advisable with a plastic thread, as it can deform the thread or cause the cap to be difficult to unscrew. The seal on creams and butters is ensured by correct seating, not by the force of tightening. Ready-made jar + cap combinations are available in the Handymade range as complete products.

When combining with a jar yourself, we recommend performing a leak test before filling a batch – fill one jar, close it, turn it upside down and leave it for several hours. Jars are not intended for liquid contents, so they are filled with creams, butters, gels and solid products that do not flow when inverted.

Before first use, the cap is recommended to be washed with warm water and a mild detergent, or disinfected with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and left to dry completely. Residual moisture under the cap could introduce water into anhydrous products (butters, balms) and shorten their stability. The same procedure applies for repeated use. The thread and inner surface of the cap should be checked for damage or build-up of dried product.

What is worth knowing

The plastic cap is intended for products filled cold or after cooling. Balms and butters that are poured into the jar while still warm should be allowed to set first, and only then should the jar be closed. Closing a warm jar leads to condensation of moisture on the inner surface of the cap and water droplets on the surface of the product.

Plastic is not suitable for prolonged contact with concentrated essential oils or solvents. In common cosmetic products where essential oils are diluted in an oil or emulsion base, no problem occurs. For products with a high proportion of essential oils or for alcohol-based preparations, we recommend testing the cap's behaviour on a trial sample.

The white cap is opaque, which is an advantage for light-sensitive products, although the main protection of the contents is determined by the material and colour of the jar itself. The white colour appears neutral and combines well with both clear and coloured jars. The cap can be labelled on the top surface, which is practical for marking the product name or batch on jars stored in multiple layers.

The cap is made of recyclable plastic and, after thorough washing to remove product residues, belongs in sorted plastic waste collection.

Frequently asked questions

Which jar is the 70/400 plastic cap suitable for?
The cap is suitable for jars with a 70 mm thread and the neck type stated in this product's parameters. This is a standard size for cream, butter and mask jars. When selecting a jar, the neck type is the deciding factor, not the volume, so we recommend comparing the neck parameter of the jar and the cap.
Is the 70/400 plastic cap suitable for food contact?
Yes, the cap is suitable for direct contact with both food and cosmetic products. It can therefore be used on jars containing homemade pastes, bath salts or herbal ointments where the raw material is also used in the kitchen. Suitability is confirmed by the declaration of conformity stated in the product parameters.
How is the 70/400 plastic cap cleaned before first use?
Before first filling, the cap is washed with warm water and a detergent and left to dry completely. For cosmetic production, it is recommended to additionally wipe it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. It is important that no moisture remains under the cap, especially for anhydrous products such as butters and balms.
Does the 70/400 plastic cap tolerate essential oils and oils?
Vegetable oils, butters and emulsions with a typical essential oil content are tolerated by the cap without problems. Concentrated essential oils or alcohol-based preparations can gradually degrade polyolefin plastic over time, so a test on a single jar is recommended for such products. For jars containing creams and butters, the cap is fully suitable.
Can the 70/400 plastic cap be reused?
Yes, the cap can be reused after washing and drying. Before each subsequent filling, it is recommended to check the thread and inner surface for damage or build-up of dried product that could impair seating on the jar. When changing the type of product, disinfection with alcohol is advisable.
