Product description
The plastic lid for the white 50 ml jar is a screw-on cap that seals the jar and protects its contents from dust, contamination, and drying out during everyday use. It works as a replacement or additional cap for jars filled with creams, face masks, balms, body butters, or scrubs.
The cap is made of plastic, making it lightweight and shatter-proof if dropped. This is an advantage for bathroom products, travel use, and shipping finished cosmetics. The material is suitable for contact with cosmetic products; the declaration can be found in the product parameters.
When a separate cap comes in handy
- Replacement for a damaged or lost cap – no need to discard the jar, just replace the cap.
- Repeated filling – for jars that are washed and refilled after use, the cap wears over time, particularly at the thread.
- Topping up production stock – when jars and caps are ordered separately, the number of caps can be matched precisely to the batch size.
How to check whether a cap fits the jar
What matters is the thread type and diameter, not the jar volume. The cap is designed for the white 50 ml jar from the Handymade range; the thread diameter is listed in the on-page parameters. Jars with the same neck type and ready-matched jar-and-cap combinations are available in our shop.
For a jar from another source, matching the diameter alone is not enough, as threads can differ in pitch and profile. Test the cap on a single jar first and check that it can be tightened without cross-threading and seals properly with the specific formulation.
Seal integrity can easily be checked with a test sample. Leave a filled and closed jar on its side or upside down for a few days and check whether any content has worked its way into the thread.
What to know before filling
Preparation before first use. Wash the cap in warm water with dish soap, rinse, and disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Allow it to dry completely before fitting, so that no water or disinfectant residue enters the product. Pay particular attention to the thread, where contaminants accumulate most easily.
Filling the jar. Fill the jar to the nominal volume, meaning the volume it is designed for under normal filling conditions. The total brim capacity is greater, and that difference serves as headspace for the cap and for expansion of the contents. Filling all the way to the rim forces product into the thread, makes the cap harder to tighten, and contaminates the packaging.
Hot filling. Allow balms and butters poured in their melted state to cool and solidify in the jar before fitting the cap. Closing the cap over a warm mass causes condensation on the inner surface, which can compromise the microbiological stability of the product.
Plastic does not tolerate high temperatures the way glass does. Boiling and oven sterilisation are not recommended; the cap may deform and the thread will no longer seal.
Material sensitivity. Common creams, butters, and balms present no problem for a plastic cap. For products with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, verify the packaging behaviour with a test sample.
Recycling. When the cap has reached the end of its life, it belongs in the sorted plastic waste collection.
