Product description

The plastic medicine bottle with a nominal volume of 30 ml and an 18 mm neck is designed for small amounts of serums, facial and massage oils, tinctures, toners and samples. It is made of PET, so it is lightweight and does not break if dropped. It is suitable for sending by post, for markets and for a cosmetic bag. The amber colour of the plastic reduces light exposure and protects sensitive contents, such as vegetable oils or water-based serums with active ingredients. The packaging is certified for direct contact with food as well as with cosmetics, so it can also be used by makers of homemade oils, syrups, herbal extracts and alcohol-based tinctures. The pack contains 800 pcs and is intended for workshops and makers who fill larger batches.

What the bottle is suitable for

The 30 ml volume works well where a product is dispensed drop by drop or in small amounts and is meant to be used up within a reasonable time.

  • Serums and facial oils – a smaller volume shortens the time an opened product is exposed to air, and the amber plastic also protects oils from light.
  • Tinctures and herbal extracts – the packaging is certified for contact with food, so it can also be used for extracts intended for internal use.
  • Toners and water-based solutions – a lightweight bottle with a sprayer or dropper is easy to carry in a handbag.
  • Samples and travel sizes – 30 ml is enough to try a product, and a PET bottle adds no weight even in a larger shipment.
  • Homemade oils and syrups in small quantities – gift and tasting packs of food products.

Volume and filling

Nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The physical volume of the bottle up to the neck is slightly larger. This difference serves as a reserve for the closure, dropper or pump and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. With a dropper the reserve is needed twice over, because the glass tube displaces part of the contents upwards when it is inserted.

For the first batch, we recommend filling one bottle as a trial, fitting the chosen closure and checking that the contents are not pushed into the thread. Only then is it worth setting the filling amount for the whole batch.

Closure and combinations

The bottle takes closures with the same neck type, which you can find in the product parameters. Ready-made bottle and closure combinations are available in the Handymade range as separate products. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and comfortable dispensing with your specific formulation, especially with oils and alcohol-based solutions.

What to know when working with PET

Before the first filling, rinse the bottles, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely, upside down. Residual water in the packaging could put an anhydrous product at risk or dilute the preservative system of a water-based formulation.

Do not fill PET with hot contents. Let emulsions, syrups and extracts cool to room temperature before filling. Heat can deform the plastic and change the tightness of the neck.

Undiluted essential oils, fragrance compositions in high concentration and some solvents can damage the plastic over the long term. For such contents, we recommend testing the bottle with the finished product in advance or choosing a glass medicine bottle.

The bottle can be reused if it is thoroughly washed and disinfected after emptying and the thread is not damaged. For products intended for sale, however, new packaging is always recommended. After use, the bottle goes in plastic recycling.

Frequently asked questions

Does an amber PET bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the amber colour of the plastic reduces light exposure and slows the changes that light causes in sensitive ingredients. It is therefore suitable for vegetable oils, serums with vitamins and herbal tinctures. However, protection from light does not replace a suitable antioxidant or preservative system in the formulation. It is still advisable to store the bottle away from direct sunlight.
How far should the 30 ml plastic medicine bottle be filled?
Fill it to the nominal volume of 30 ml, not to the rim of the neck. The space above this level is a reserve for the dropper, pump or sprayer and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents are pushed into the thread when the dropper is inserted and the closure may not seal.
Is the 30 ml plastic medicine bottle suitable for essential oils?
Yes for blends diluted in a carrier oil, but for undiluted essential oils we recommend glass instead. Concentrated essential oils and fragrance compositions can damage plastic with prolonged contact, which shows as a change in the surface or in the tightness. For blends with a higher proportion of essential oils, it is worth testing with the finished product before filling the whole batch.
Can the 30 ml PET bottle be used for alcohol-based tinctures and water-based toners?
Yes, the packaging is certified for direct contact with food as well as cosmetics, so it is suitable for alcohol-based tinctures, herbal extracts and water-based toners. For water-based products without a preservative, expect a short shelf life. For tinctures with a high alcohol content, we recommend checking the tightness of the chosen closure so that the alcohol does not evaporate through the thread.
How do I prepare a plastic medicine bottle before the first filling?
Before filling, rinse the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely, upside down. Disinfection removes dust from production and transport, and dryness prevents water from getting into an anhydrous product. Fill only with contents that have cooled, because hot mixtures can deform PET.
Which closure fits a plastic medicine bottle with an 18 mm neck?
The bottle takes closures with the same neck type as stated in the product parameters, that is, caps, droppers, sprayers and pumps with this thread. You can find ready-made bottle and closure combinations in the Handymade range. For your own set, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation, because oils and alcohol-based solutions behave differently in a closure.
