Product description

A glass jar made of amber glass with a gold lid and inner liner is a complete, ready-to-use container for creams, balms and masks in a volume of 50 ml. Amber glass reduces light transmission, making it suitable for contents with vegetable oils, butters and active ingredients that lose their effectiveness faster when exposed to light. All three components of the set are declared suitable for contact with cosmetics; the declaration of conformity is available with the product.

The 50 ml volume corresponds to the standard packaging for face cream, eye cream, lip balm or ointment in a smaller size. It is equally suited for body butter or a trial size of face scrub, deodorant cream or a mask that lasts several weeks. The wide neck makes it easy to fill with a spatula and to scoop out contents with a finger.

What the set consists of

  • Glass jar, amber, 50 ml – body made of amber glass with a wide neck and thread. Glass does not react with oils or common cosmetic ingredients and can be washed repeatedly.
  • Gold plastic lid – screw-on lid made of ABS plastic with an EPE sealing layer that seats against the jar neck when tightened. The gold colour gives the packaging the appearance of a finished product without further customisation.
  • Inner liner – a thin white polypropylene disc placed directly on the surface of the contents under the lid. During transport it catches any content that would otherwise reach the lid, and until the first opening it limits air access to the surface of the cream.

The set is matched so that the liner and lid fit this jar. The jar, lid and liner are also available individually in the Handymade range. When combining with a different closure of the same neck type, we recommend verifying the seal and the behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation.

Volume and filling

Nominal volume of 50 ml is the volume for which the jar is intended during standard filling. Total capacity to the rim is the physical volume up to the neck and is listed in the parameters. The difference between them provides headspace for the liner and lid and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the rim. With creams and butters, level the surface after filling so that the liner seats evenly and does not push the contents to the edge.

Balms and butters that are poured hot should be left to set and cool in the jar without the lid. Attach the liner and lid only once the contents have cooled completely. Under a closed lid, moisture from warm contents condenses, and water droplets on the surface of an anhydrous balm are an unnecessary risk.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – wash the jar, lid and liner, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Moisture in the jar shortens the stability of both aqueous and anhydrous products.
  • Glass and heat – do not pour a hot balm into a cold jar. Let the contents cool slightly to the temperature at which they still pour, or warm the jar beforehand to prevent the glass from experiencing thermal shock.
  • Plastic and essential oils – the polypropylene liner tolerates standard cosmetic contents. For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils or with solvents, we recommend verifying how the lid and liner behave with the specific contents.
  • Reuse – glass can be refilled repeatedly. Before the next filling, check that the sealing layer of the lid is not damaged and that the liner is not bent.
  • Recycling – glass goes in the glass bin, lid and liner in plastics. Separate the components before disposal.

The set is intended for cosmetic products. It is not declared suitable for contact with food.

Neither the liner nor the lid preserves the contents. Aqueous creams and masks that are scooped from the jar with fingers require a preservation system regardless of the packaging.

Frequently asked questions

Does an amber glass jar protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass reduces light transmission and is therefore suitable for creams with vegetable oils, vitamins and plant extracts. It does not provide complete darkness, however. Even in an amber jar, the finished product should be stored away from direct sunlight, and for higher stability requirements the contents should also be protected with a suitable antioxidant.
How much cream fits in a 50 ml glass jar?
The jar is filled with 50 ml, which is its nominal volume. Physically it holds a little more, but the space to the rim is reserved for the liner, lid and expansion of the contents in heat. If you are filling by weight, convert the volume using the density of the specific cream or butter.
What is the inner liner in the jar for?
The liner covers the surface of the contents under the lid and protects them until the first opening. During transport it catches any content that would reach the lid upon impact and limits contact between the cream surface and air. After the first opening, the customer usually discards it; with anhydrous balms it can be replaced.
Is the 50 ml glass jar suitable for anhydrous balms and butters?
Yes, amber glass is suitable for anhydrous balms, ointments and whipped butters. The contents are poured into the jar only after slight cooling to prevent thermal shock to the glass, and left to set without the lid. The liner and lid are attached only once the contents are cold, to prevent moisture from condensing under the lid.
Can the glass jar with the gold lid be reused?
Yes, the glass jar can be washed, disinfected and refilled. The lid and liner will withstand several cycles before the sealing layer is damaged or the liner bends. Before each refill, always check that the lid seats evenly on the neck when tightened.
