Product description
Trigger sprayer with 24/410 thread made of polypropylene closes a bottle with the same neck type and simultaneously dispenses its contents. It is suitable wherever a thin liquid needs to be sprayed over a larger area or from a greater distance: air and fabric fresheners, homemade household and cleaning preparations, hair and body mists in larger volumes, plant misting or hydrosol sprays on a workbench. One press of the trigger releases a dose of approximately 0.3 ml, allowing even application without spilling.
The sprayer is suitable for use with cosmetic products; the declaration of conformity is available with the product.
Key features
- Trigger dispensing – pressing the trigger with the fingers is more comfortable than pushing the head with the thumb, making it suitable for repeated application of larger amounts of product, for example when cleaning surfaces or spraying fabrics.
- 24/410 thread – a common neck type for which you will find several bottles in plastic and glass in the Handymade range, ready-made bottle + sprayer combinations and other closures with the same neck. For your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and dosing with the specific formulation.
- Polypropylene – a lightweight material that will not break and tolerates aqueous solutions, diluted surfactant preparations and common hydrosols.
- Transparent design – a neutral appearance that does not compete with the colour of the bottle or the label. You can also see whether any residue of the preparation is retained in the head or the tube.
- Smooth collar – a simple shape without knurling, easy to clean and visually unobtrusive on the packaging.
What the sprayer is suitable for
The trigger sprayer is designed for low-viscosity liquids that can be drawn up through the tube and atomised by the nozzle. In practice, these are mainly the following types of preparations:
- Home and fabric sprays – aqueous solutions with solubilised fragrance, interior or fabric fresheners.
- Cleaning preparations – diluted all-purpose cleaners, vinegar and citric acid solutions, glass and smooth surface preparations, or degreasers based on mild surfactants.
- Hair and body mists in larger volumes – hydrosol sprays, light toning solutions, diluted leave-in conditioners, provided they are genuinely thin.
- Plant misting and work sprays – water, hydrosols or diluted solutions where a larger dose per press is appreciated.
Conversely, the trigger sprayer is not suitable for thick emulsions, cream milks, pure oils or gels. The mechanism will not draw up or atomise such preparations and the nozzle becomes blocked. For a fine facial mist, a pump mister with a smaller dose is more appropriate.
The sprayer works reliably only with thin liquids. For preparations containing thickeners, undissolved particles or a higher proportion of oil, we recommend testing before filling whether the contents can be drawn up and evenly atomised.
How to use the sprayer
Before first use, we recommend rinsing the sprayer with clean water and pumping it through several times to remove any manufacturing residues from the mechanism. For cosmetic preparations that should contain as few microorganisms as possible, it is advisable to disinfect the tube and head with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and allow to dry completely.
The tube is supplied in a length that suits most bottles. If it is significantly longer than the bottle, it will bend when screwed on and may impair suction. In that case, trim it with a sharp knife or scissors so that after screwing on it ends just above the bottom. An angled cut makes it easier to draw up the last remaining contents.
After screwing onto the bottle, the sprayer must be pumped dry several times until the mechanism fills and starts dispensing. This is a normal occurrence with any new or cleaned sprayer, not a defect.
Fill the bottle only to the nominal volume stated in its specifications, not to the brim. The total brim-full volume is greater and the headspace below the neck is needed for the submerged tube and the sprayer mechanism; otherwise the contents are pushed out when screwing on.
Good to know
- Viscosity and particles – the contents should be a clear or only slightly turbid solution. Undissolved particles, sediment from herbal infusions or powder residues clog the nozzle and valve; such preparations should be filtered before filling.
- Essential oils and solvents – polypropylene is among the more resistant plastics, but with a higher proportion of essential oils, pure solvents or strong degreasers we recommend checking the long-term behaviour of the mechanism and seals. At the typical solubilised fragrance level used in home sprays, problems are not common.
- Preservation of contents – the sprayer does not seal the contents hermetically and air enters the bottle with each press. Aqueous preparations intended for use over more than a few days therefore require a suitable preservative. The closure alone does not protect them against microbial growth.
- Recycling – the sprayer is made of polypropylene. Before disposal, separate it from the bottle if the bottle is made of a different material.
