Product description

Clear plastic jar 3 ml with lid is a complete set for packaging cosmetic samples and miniatures. Both parts are transparent, so the colour and consistency of the contents are visible without opening. This is useful for testers where the customer chooses based on shade or texture. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. It is not approved for contact with food and is intended exclusively for cosmetic and technical use.

What the set is suitable for

A volume of 3 ml corresponds to one to several applications, so this is primarily a sample container: testers for creams, face masks and balms, miniatures for customers with their order, trial doses of a new formula, or side-by-side comparison of several fragrance or colour variants. It also works well for solid and semi-solid products that are scooped with a finger or spatula: lip balm, solid perfume, ointment, colour pigment, glitter, or a small amount of pigmented paste. For liquid products such as serums or oils, the jar is less suitable. They are difficult to dispense from it and easily spill if accidentally opened.

How the set works

The jar is made of polystyrene (PS), a hard and clear plastic that holds its shape and displays the contents well. The lid is made of polypropylene (PP), a more flexible material that screws onto the jar's thread and seats tightly when closed. Thanks to this combination, the lid does not stick or crack when screwed on, and the jar does not deform when scooping out the contents. For creams with a higher water content, we recommend verifying the seal with your own test: fill, close, turn upside down and leave for several hours. Behaviour varies depending on the viscosity of the formulation.

Nominal and total volume

For each container we state two values. Nominal volume is the quantity the jar is designed for under normal filling. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the top edge. The difference between them is a reserve for the lid and for possible expansion of the contents with temperature change, for example with balms that soften in the heat. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Otherwise the contents will be pushed onto the thread when closing and the lid will not seal. The specific values of both volumes can be found in the product parameters.

What is good to know when filling

Before first use, we recommend washing and briefly disinfecting both jars and lids by wiping with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and allowing them to dry completely. Prolonged soaking in alcohol is not necessary and is not beneficial to polystyrene.

Polystyrene is sensitive to undiluted essential oils, fragrance compositions and solvents. With direct and prolonged contact, the surface may become dull, crack or soften. Pure essential oils and alcohol tinctures therefore do not belong in this jar. A finished cream or balm with a standard proportion of fragrance ingredients is generally fine; for higher fragrance dosages, we recommend testing on a single piece.

Polystyrene is not intended for high temperatures. Allow melted balms and ointments to cool slightly before filling, until the mass is still flowing but no longer hot straight from the water bath. The jar is not suitable for a dishwasher or for sterilisation with boiling water.

The transparent jar is suitable for sample sets, because the customer can see the shade without opening it. A small label on the lid is sufficient for identification.

For repeated use, wash the jar thoroughly and check that the thread and lid are not damaged. Lids with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal with the specific formulation. When recycling, separate the parts, as the jar and lid are made of different plastics; the material designation of both parts is listed in the parameters.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 3 ml clear plastic jar suitable for cream samples?
Yes, the 3 ml jar and lid set is designed specifically for samples and testers of creams, balms and masks. The transparent body shows the colour and texture of the contents, and the screw lid keeps the contents in place during normal handling. For thinner creams, we recommend verifying the seal by turning the filled and closed jar upside down for several hours.
Can I pour pure essential oil or perfume into the 3 ml jar?
No, undiluted essential oils, fragrance compositions and solvents do not belong in this jar. The polystyrene from which the jar is made turns dull, cracks or softens on direct contact with them. A finished product with a standard proportion of fragrance ingredients, such as a lip balm, is generally fine. For higher fragrance dosages, test on a single piece.
How much cream fits in a jar with a nominal volume of 3 ml?
The jar is filled to the nominal volume, i.e. approximately 3 ml of product. The jar is physically slightly larger, but the difference serves as a reserve for the lid and for the expansion of the contents in the heat. If filled to the brim, the contents will be pushed onto the thread when closing and the lid will stop sealing. The exact values of both volumes are in the product parameters.
Can hot balm be poured into the 3 ml jar?
Only with care. Polystyrene is not designed for high temperatures, so allow the melted balm or ointment to cool slightly before pouring. The mass should still be flowing, but no longer hot straight from the water bath. The jar is also not suitable for a dishwasher or for sterilisation with boiling water.
How to prepare the 3 ml jar and lid before first filling?
Wash both parts, briefly wipe with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and allow to dry completely. Prolonged soaking in alcohol is not beneficial to polystyrene. The same procedure applies for repeated use. At that point, also check that the jar thread and lid are not damaged and that the lid still seats tightly.
Is the 3 ml jar and lid set suitable for food?
No, this set is not approved for contact with food and is intended for cosmetic and technical use. Both the jar and the lid are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. They are therefore suitable for samples of creams, balms, pigments or solid perfumes, but not for spices, syrups or other food items.
