Product description
A white plastic jar with a double bottom, a screw cap with a silver stripe and an inner liner form a complete cream packaging set. All three parts are made of polypropylene (PP), are matched to each other and come together, with no need to search for a suitable closure. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products; the certificate is listed on the product page.
The opaque white plastic blocks light, so the contents are not exposed to daylight as they would be in clear glass. The jar is lightweight and shatterproof, making it suitable for packaging that is sent by post, carried in a bag or kept in a bathroom. A volume of 50 ml is the typical size for a face cream, eye cream, balm or a sample for a customer to try before purchasing a larger size.
How the set works
- Jar with double bottom – the double-wall construction gives the container a firmer, fuller shape and stable footing on a shelf. The contents are filled into the inner part; the outer wall gives the packaging a more solid appearance than a thin-walled single jar.
- Cap with silver stripe – a screw closure that seats securely on the neck. The silver stripe on the rim is the only decorative element; otherwise the packaging is plain white and works well with a label in any colour.
- Inner liner – a thin plastic disc placed directly on the surface of the product after filling. It reduces the contact between the contents and the air and the inner side of the cap, and holds the product in place if the jar is overturned.
Suitable for products such as
The set is intended primarily for semi-solid and thick preparations that are scooped out with a finger or spatula:
- face and eye creams, day and night,
- lip balms, hand balms, heel balms and ointment preparations,
- body butters and whipped butters in smaller packaging,
- cream masks and facial scrubs,
- samples and travel sizes of larger products,
- solid perfumes and scented balms.
The jar is not suitable for liquid and thin products (tonics, serums, oils). They are difficult to dispense from it and will spill when the jar is overturned. A bottle with a dropper or pump is more appropriate for these.
Filling and volume
With a jar, it is important to distinguish between the nominal volume and the total volume to the brim. The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for during normal filling, and it is also the figure stated on the label. The total volume to the brim is the physical capacity of the container up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the liner and cap and for the event that the contents expand slightly with a change in temperature, or that whipped creams increase in volume. Both values are listed in the product specifications.
Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. For creams poured warm, allow the contents to set first and only then place the liner and screw on the cap – otherwise moisture condenses under the cap and a water film forms on the surface of the product.
Whipped butters and airy creams should be filled carefully to avoid air bubbles remaining in the jar. After filling, gently tap the jar on the table and level the surface.
Good to know
- Preparation before first filling – we recommend washing the jar, cap and liner before use, disinfecting with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allowing them to dry completely. Fill into a dry container – residual water shortens the shelf life of water-containing creams.
- Material and contents – polypropylene tolerates common emulsions, butters, waxes and vegetable oils well. For preparations with a high proportion of essential oils, fragrance oils or solvents, we recommend testing the behaviour of the packaging on a sample, as some ingredients may soften the plastic or leave a scent in it over time.
- Filling temperature – do not pour boiling contents into a plastic jar. Allow hot material to cool before filling to a temperature at which it can still be poured but will no longer deform the container wall.
- Label – the smooth white surface on both the cap and the body of the jar is suitable for a round or wraparound label.
- Reuse – the set can be used again after washing and disinfection; however, we recommend replacing or thoroughly cleaning the liner at each new filling, as it is in direct contact with the product.
- Closures and combinations – the set comes ready assembled; individual caps with the same neck type and further pre-assembled combinations are available in the Handymade range. For a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal and the behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation.
- Recycling – all three parts are made of a single material, polypropylene, so after emptying and rinsing they can be sorted into plastics without disassembly.
The set is not intended for contact with food. For home oils, syrups or herbal extracts, choose packaging that has a food-contact certificate listed in the product specifications.
