What's in the set

Product description

Airless bottle, white plastic 200 ml is a complete bottle-and-cap set for dispensing creams, serums and emulsions without exposure to air. The contents are pushed out by a pump without a dip tube: with each press the base of the bottle moves upward and releases one dose, while no air enters the remaining product. It is therefore especially suited to formulations that are sensitive to oxidation and that the customer should dispense cleanly, without scooping with fingers.

The white opaque plastic also dims light and protects the contents from its effects as well. The nominal volume of 200 ml is a format for body lotions, larger packs of face creams or salon products that are used up in portions over a longer period. The cap in the set covers the pump head and prevents it from being pressed accidentally during transport or in a cosmetics bag.

How airless packaging works

A standard pump bottle draws the contents up through a tube and lets air into the container with every press. An airless bottle works differently: inside it has a movable base (piston) that with each press moves closer to the pump and pushes the contents out. The product thus stays sealed throughout use, is not aerated, and almost all of the contents can be pressed out regardless of how you hold the bottle.

This principle leads to the main advantage for the formulator: limited contact with air slows the oxidation of vegetable oils, vitamins and antioxidants, and finger-free dispensing reduces the risk of introducing microorganisms into the product. However, airless packaging does not replace preservation; it only eases the stress the product is exposed to during use.

Key benefits

  • Air-free dispensing – the contents are pushed out by a piston, not by suction, so no air or dirt from the surroundings enters the product during use.
  • Hygienic use – the customer does not touch the product with their fingers, which you will appreciate especially with eye creams, serums with active ingredients and products for sensitive skin.
  • Protection from light – the white opaque plastic dims light and helps protect colorants, fragrance ingredients and sensitive active substances.
  • Repeatable dose – each press releases the same amount, so the customer does not over-dispense the product and more easily follows the recommended use.
  • Use of almost all the contents – the piston pushes out even the residue at the bottom, which would remain unused in a standard tube pump bottle.
  • Lightweight and unbreakable packaging – the plastic is suitable for sending by post and for travel.

Suitable for products such as

It performs best with formulations of creamy to milky consistency that the piston can reliably push out:

  • face and body creams, body lotions and light emulsions;
  • serums and gel creams with active ingredients sensitive to air (vitamin C, retinoids, unsaturated oils, peptides);
  • eye creams and products for sensitive skin, where hygienic dispensing matters;
  • hand and foot creams, sun care and after-sun products;
  • anhydrous cream balms and butters, if they are soft enough to be pushed out at room temperature.

It is less suitable for very thin water-based products (toners, hydrosols), which are better dispensed with a sprayer or dropper, and for very thick or solid masses that the pump will not move.

Filling and preparing the packaging

Before the first filling we recommend you wash and disinfect both the bottle and the cap with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. The airless bottle is filled from the top after unscrewing the pump head. Fill slowly and without trapping air bubbles, because air trapped under the pump may cause the first doses not to come out.

When filling, follow the nominal volume, not the rim. The nominal volume is the volume the packaging is designed for under normal filling; the total volume up to the neck is larger and the difference provides a reserve for the pump mechanism and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Overfilling may cause the product to be squeezed out when closing and the piston to malfunction.

After filling and screwing on, press the pump several times empty until the system “starts up” and the first full dose comes out. This is normal behavior of airless packaging, not a defect.

Always put the cap on after dispensing: it protects the head from dirt and from unwanted pressing. The packaging is intended for a single filling; reuse is possible only after thorough cleaning and returning the piston to its starting position, which is not practical with every formulation.

Good to know

The approximate dose size of the pump is about 1.2 ml, which corresponds to a usual single dose of body lotion or a larger face cream. For products where a smaller amount is used (eye creams, concentrated serums), take this into account in the instructions for use.

The consistency of the product determines how smoothly dispensing will work. Medium-viscosity emulsions come out evenly; with very thick masses we recommend checking whether the pump pushes out the whole dose, and with very thin ones whether the product leaks out after pressing.

It is advisable to test compatibility with the formulation. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents we recommend a stability test directly in this packaging. The set is not approved for contact with food, so it is not intended for homemade oils, syrups or other food products.

Products that release gas (for example freshly fermented or effervescent ingredients) do not belong in an airless bottle, nor do masses with larger solid particles that would block the pump valve.

Recycling: the packaging is made of plastic and, once empty, belongs in sorted plastic waste. Caps with the same neck type and ready-made packaging combinations can be found in the Handymade range; for your own combination we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behavior of the packaging with the specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

What products is the 200 ml airless bottle suitable for?
The 200 ml airless bottle is suitable mainly for creams, body lotions and gel serums of creamy to milky consistency. The piston reliably pushes out medium-viscosity emulsions, whereas very thin water-based products or solid balms dispense poorly from it. It makes the most sense with formulations containing active ingredients sensitive to air and light.
Why does no product come out of the airless bottle after filling?
Most often because the pump has not yet “started up” or there is air trapped beneath it. After filling and screwing on the head, press the pump several times in a row until a full dose comes out. If the product still does not come out, the cause is usually too thick a formulation or overfilling the bottle beyond the nominal volume.
Does airless packaging replace product preservation?
No, the airless bottle does not replace preservation. It limits access to air and the touch of fingers, thereby reducing the stress on the product during use and slowing the oxidation of sensitive ingredients. Water-based and emulsion formulations must, however, be preserved regardless of the type of packaging; airless packaging is supplementary protection, not a replacement for a preservation system.
How much product is in one dose of the 200 ml airless bottle?
One press releases approximately 1.2 ml of product. For a usual body lotion or face cream this corresponds to a single application, while for eye creams or concentrated serums it is more than is needed. Therefore take the dose size into account when choosing the packaging and in the instructions for use.
Can the airless bottle be refilled?
Yes, but only after thorough cleaning and returning the piston to the bottom position. The bottle is filled after unscrewing the pump head; with reuse it is harder to guarantee the hygiene of the interior and the correct functioning of the piston. For selling finished products we always recommend new packaging; refilling is more suitable for your own home use.
Does the white airless bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the white opaque plastic dims the access of light to the contents. This helps protect colorants, fragrance ingredients, vegetable oils and light-sensitive active substances such as vitamin C or retinol. Together with air-free dispensing, the packaging thus protects the contents from the two main causes of their degradation during use.
