Product description

The HDPE plastic bottle with foam pump 500 ml is a ready-to-fill set for liquid cleaning products to be dispensed directly as a fine foam. The foam pump mixes the liquid with air without a propellant gas, and the white opaque HDPE bottle shields the contents from light. The set is designed for any situation where the customer should receive a measured dose of ready foam with a single press – from household washbasins to high-turnover commercial settings.

Key benefits

  • Foam dispensing without gas – the pump creates foam mechanically by mixing the product with air, so the formulation requires no aerosol system or propellant.
  • Light protection – the white opaque wall of the bottle transmits only minimal light, helping to maintain the stability of fragrance components, dyes and more sensitive active ingredients.
  • Lightweight and shatterproof packaging – HDPE withstands everyday handling in the bathroom and during transport. Suitable for showers and beside washbasins, where glass would be a risk.
  • Economical dispensing – foamed product is used in smaller quantities than liquid, so the bottle contents last longer.
  • Suitable for cosmetics – both the bottle and pump are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. A declaration of conformity is available at the product.

What the set is suitable for

The foam pump works only with products of low viscosity, close to water. The set is therefore designed for water-based surfactant formulations: foam soaps for hands and body, facial cleansing foams, foam shampoos, children's wash foams, intimate wash foams or shaving foams without propellant gas. With its 500 ml volume, it is also suitable for family-size packs or for settings with fast consumption – salons, workshops, public washrooms.

The set is not suitable for thick gels, creams, oils or emulsions. The pump will not draw these in or produce foam from them, and the mechanism will clog. For such products, a set with a standard dispensing pump is more appropriate.

Prepare the formulation for a foam pump without thickeners and with a lower oil content. A finished thick shower gel cannot simply be decanted – it must be diluted with water before filling and tested to confirm it still foams and does not turn cloudy. A test fill of a single unit is recommended before larger-scale production.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed to hold during regular filling. The total volume to the brim is the physical capacity up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference provides a reserve for the dip tube and pump mechanism and for any expansion of the contents with temperature change. The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim – otherwise the contents will be pushed out through the neck when the pump is screwed on, and the set will not seal.

On first use, the pump needs to be primed empty several times until the dip tube draws in the product and the mechanism is filled. A single press dispenses approximately 1 ml of product as foam, which is a standard single-use dose for washing hands or face.

Useful to know

Preparation before filling – new packaging is recommended to be rinsed, sanitised with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allowed to dry completely before first use. Residual water would dilute the product and could promote microbial contamination. The pump just needs to be rinsed with clean water and left to dry with the dip tube facing downward.

Filling temperature – HDPE is not designed for hot filling. Allow the product to cool to room temperature before filling. A warm liquid may deform the bottle wall and pull it inward as it cools.

Essential oils and solvents – HDPE is resistant to common cosmetic ingredients. For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils or alcohol, however, we recommend checking that the packaging does not deform after several weeks and that the pump still seals. For a foam pump, such formulations are marginal anyway, as a higher oil content reduces foam formation.

Reuse – the set can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection. Before the next fill, prime the pump with clean water to prevent dried surfactant residues from accumulating in the mechanism and clogging the mesh.

Labelling – the smooth cylindrical wall of the bottle is suitable for self-adhesive labels.

Recycling – the HDPE bottle and PP pump are plastic packaging. Before disposal, we recommend emptying the set and separating the components.

The set is not approved for contact with food. It is intended for cosmetic and technical use.

Closures and dispensers with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal and packaging behaviour with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

What product can be filled into the bottle with a foam pump?
Only liquid products with viscosity close to water that contain surfactants can be filled into a bottle with a foam pump. These are typically foam soaps, facial cleansing foams or thin shampoos. Thick gels, creams and oils cannot be drawn in or foamed by the pump, so they do not belong in this set.
Why is the foam pump not producing foam?
The most common cause is a product that is too thick or has a low surfactant content in the formulation. The pump needs a thin liquid that it can mix with air through the mesh. Diluting the product with water, removing thickeners and reducing the oil content will help. With a new bottle, press several times empty first until the dip tube draws in the contents.
Does the white HDPE bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the white opaque HDPE wall transmits only a small fraction of light, so the contents are better protected than in a clear bottle. It is therefore also suitable for products with fragrance components, natural dyes or more sensitive active ingredients. Light protection, however, does not replace appropriate preservation and antioxidants in the formulation.
Can the bottle with foam pump be reused?
Yes, the set can be emptied, washed, disinfected and refilled. Rinse the bottle, sanitise with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry. Prime the pump with clean water to prevent dried surfactant residues from settling in the mesh, and let it dry completely before the next fill.
Is the HDPE plastic bottle with foam pump suitable for food?
No, this set is not approved for contact with food. Both the bottle and pump are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products and for technical use. For home syrups, oils or herbal extracts, choose packaging that explicitly states suitability for food contact in its specifications.
