Product description

Plastic jar, white, HDPE, 1000 ml – complete with lid and insert

The complete set of a wide-mouth plastic jar with a capacity of 1000 ml, a screw lid and an inner insert is ready for filling without any further combining of parts. White opaque HDPE protects the contents from light, the jar is lightweight and durable, and thanks to the wide mouth it is easy to fill, scoop from and clean. It is suitable for larger volumes of thick and loose products – body butters, creams, scrubs, bath salts, masks, soap flakes or powdered raw materials. The complete set is as a whole approved for direct food contact and also declared suitable for cosmetic products, so it can also be used for loose foods, dried herbs, honey or homemade spice blends.

What the set consists of

  • Jar – body made of white HDPE with a 85/400 neck thread. The material is resistant to water, oils and common cosmetic ingredients, and the opaque wall blocks light that accelerates the oxidation of oils and fading of colours.
  • Lid – white screw lid made of PP with the same thread type. The jar can be repeatedly closed and opened without tools.
  • Inner insert – a transparent PP disc placed under the lid on the jar neck. It covers the surface of the contents, limits their contact with the lid and air, and during transport or tilting reduces the risk of the contents reaching the thread.

All three parts are matched to one neck type, so they fit together and nothing extra needs to be purchased. Other closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range; for a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal tightness and container behaviour with the specific formulation.

What the jar is suitable for

The wide mouth makes this container a practical choice for products that are scooped with a spoon, spatula or by hand, not dispensed with a pump. Typically these include:

  • Body butters and thick creams – 1000 ml volume corresponds to a family or salon-size pack, or a stock supply for refilling smaller jars.
  • Scrubs and bath salts – sugar or salt scrubs and bath salts are easy to scoop from the jar, and the opaque wall protects the essential oils in them from light.
  • Masks and muds – clay and mud masks in both paste and powder form.
  • Loose raw materials and semi-finished products – soap flakes, powder thickeners, dried flowers, salts, sugar, flours and spices; HDPE does not allow moisture through as easily as paper packaging.
  • Food – honey, nut butters, dried herbs or homemade spice blends.

For liquid aqueous products such as tonics or hydrolats, a bottle with a narrower neck is more suitable. The wide jar is intended for solid, pasty and loose contents.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume for which the container is designed for normal filling. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume of the jar up to the neck and is somewhat larger. The difference provides a reserve for the inner insert, for movement of the contents during transport and for the expansion of some substances when the temperature changes, such as body butters. The jar should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If filled up to the neck, the insert would press on the contents and when closing, product would get onto the thread.

Preparation and filling

Before first use, we recommend washing and sanitising the jar, lid and insert with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allowing them to dry completely. Cosmetics with an aqueous phase are sensitive to microbial contamination, and a clean container is just as important as the preservation of the formula.

Do not pour body butters or balms into the jar while hot. HDPE is a durable material, but the high temperature of a melted mass can deform the wall. Allow the mass to cool to a temperature at which it is still liquid but no longer hot, and only then fill the jar. Place the insert on the surface only after the contents have solidified.

Loose products are best filled using a wide-neck funnel or a measuring cup to prevent powder from remaining on the thread. Wipe the thread before closing; product residue on the thread impairs the seating of the lid.

Good to know

  • Material and contents – HDPE and PP are compatible with aqueous, oil-based and emulsion products. For products with a high proportion of pure essential oils or with solvents, we recommend checking compatibility using one jar first, as some ingredients may dull or soften the plastic over time.
  • Degrease the wall before applying the label.
  • Reuse – the set is designed for repeated filling. Before each new fill, check the insert to ensure it is not scratched or deformed.
  • Recycling – the HDPE jar and the PP lid with insert belong in sorted plastic waste collection once empty.

All three parts of the set have certification for direct food contact, so you can use the same jar for a cosmetic semi-finished product as well as food ingredients without any concern about material suitability.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 1000 ml HDPE plastic jar with lid suitable for food?
Yes, the entire set – jar, lid and inner insert – is approved for direct food contact. You can store honey, nut butters, dried herbs, spices, salt or flour in it. It is also declared suitable for cosmetic products, so it is suitable for creams, butters, scrubs and loose raw materials for cosmetic production.
Does the white HDPE jar protect the contents from light?
Yes, white HDPE is opaque and practically does not allow light through to the contents. This is an advantage for products containing vegetable oils, essential oils or natural pigments, which oxidise and fade in light. However, you cannot see the amount of contents from the outside, so it is advisable to label the jar with the filling date.
Can I pour hot body butter into an HDPE jar?
No, do not pour hot mass into the jar. Allow the body butter or balm to cool after melting to a temperature at which the mass is still liquid but no longer hot, and only then fill. High temperature could deform the wall of the jar. Insert the inner insert only after the contents have fully solidified so that the mass does not stick to it.
What is the inner insert in the jar set for?
The transparent insert is placed on the jar neck under the lid and covers the surface of the contents. It limits contact between the product and the air and lid, and during transport or tilting prevents the contents from reaching the thread. It is not necessary for loose products; for creams and butters we recommend using it.
Can the 1000 ml plastic jar be reused and how do you clean it?
Yes, the set is designed for repeated filling. Wash the jar, lid and insert with warm soapy water, rinse, sanitise with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Before each fill, check that the thread is not damaged and that the insert is not deformed, otherwise the seating of the lid will be impaired.
