Product description

A cream sample, lip balm or solid perfume needs a small, clean and tight container. That is exactly what this plastic jar with a capacity of 5 ml, supplied as a complete set with a screw-on lid, is designed for. It is suitable wherever a small amount of a firmer or creamy product needs to be packaged: for cream samples and testers for customers, balms, ointments, solid perfumes or single-use face masks.

The set is made of polypropylene (PP), a lightweight and shatterproof plastic commonly used for cosmetic packaging. The lid features an inner foam polyethylene sealing insert that, once tightened, seats on the neck and limits seepage and drying out of the contents. Through the white-translucent wall, the contents remain partially visible, and the silver ring on the lid gives the packaging a finished look even without a label. Both parts are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics; a declaration of conformity is available with the product.

Key benefits

  • Ready-to-use set – the jar and lid fit together; no need to source a cap or check thread compatibility.
  • Practical size for samples – 5 ml is enough for several days of testing a cream, balm or ointment without using up the full-size product.
  • Sealing insert in the lid – the foam insert keeps the contents sealed and slows moisture loss in creams and gels.
  • Lightweight and shatterproof material – polypropylene withstands shipping in an envelope and carrying in a bag, which matters for samples and travel-size products.
  • Translucent wall – the customer can see the colour and texture of the contents before opening.

Suitable for products such as

  • Cream samples and testers – day and night creams, eye creams, hand creams; a small pack for trying before buying full size.
  • Balms and ointments – lip balms, solid body balms, hemp and herbal ointments applied with a finger or spatula.
  • Solid perfumes – wax-based fragrance compositions that are easy to carry and apply from a jar.
  • Single-use masks and scrubs – concentrated face masks or sugar scrubs in a single-use quantity.
  • Thick gels – gel products that do not run when opened and do not require a dispenser.

For thin oils, serums and liquid tonics, a bottle with a dropper or pump is more suitable. A jar with an open neck is intended for products that are scooped out.

Good to know

When filling, follow the nominal volume, not the total capacity to the brim. The nominal volume is the amount the jar is designed for under normal filling. The total volume up to the neck is larger, and the difference provides a reserve for the lid with its sealing insert to seat and for the contents to expand with temperature changes. A jar filled to the brim will overflow on closing and the insert in the lid will become soiled.

Fill creams and balms into the jar cooled to room temperature, not hot. Hot mass shrinks as it sets, resulting in a sunken surface. Pour wax balms just before they set, leave them to cool uncovered and only then close the lid.

Before first use, wash and sanitise both the jar and the lid with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to dry completely. The set can be reused after thorough washing, but for products where microbiological cleanliness matters, a new container is the safer choice. Polypropylene is resistant to common cosmetic ingredients. With formulations containing a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, check over time whether the jar wall becomes cloudy and the sealing insert softens.

The jar has a small labelling area, so a round label on the lid works better than a wraparound label on the wall. Dimensions are listed in the product specifications. After use, the set belongs in sorted plastic waste.

The set is declared for contact with cosmetics. Neither the jar nor the lid is approved for packaging food, herbal teas or home-made syrups.

Frequently asked questions

What is the 5 ml plastic jar with lid suitable for?
Best for samples and testers of creams, balms, ointments and solid perfumes. A volume of 5 ml covers several applications, so the customer can try the product without buying the full size and the manufacturer can distribute it as a sample. For thin oils and serums, an open-neck jar is not suitable; a bottle with a dropper is the right choice there.
Does the lid of the 5 ml jar seal properly with cream and gel contents?
Yes, the lid has an inner foam polyethylene sealing insert that, once tightened, seats on the neck and limits seepage and drying out. For thin liquids, however, it is not a hermetic seal and the contents may leak if inverted. For liquid products, use a bottle with a screw cap.
How much cream fits in the 5 ml jar?
Under normal filling, 5 ml, which is the nominal volume of the jar. The total capacity to the brim is slightly larger, but this difference serves as a reserve for the lid with its sealing insert and for the contents to expand with temperature changes. Filling right up to the neck would push the contents onto the thread and the insert when closing.
Can the 5 ml jar be washed and reused?
Yes, both polypropylene and the sealing insert withstand washing with warm water and a cleaning agent followed by disinfection with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Before refilling, allow both parts to dry completely. For products where microbiological cleanliness matters, a new set is recommended.
Is the 5 ml plastic jar suitable for a balm containing essential oils?
At the usual dosage of essential oils in a balm, yes — polypropylene is reasonably resistant to them. With a high proportion of essential oils or products containing solvents, carry out a test: fill one jar, close it, and after a few weeks check whether the wall has turned cloudy and the insert in the lid has softened.
Is the 5 ml jar with lid suitable for food?
No, the set is declared for contact with cosmetics only. Neither the jar nor the lid has certification for direct food contact, so do not use them for herbs, syrups, spices or oils intended for consumption. The declaration of conformity for cosmetic use is available with the product.
