Product description

The aluminium jar with lid at 150 ml is a container for thicker and semi-solid products: balms, body butters, cream deodorants, solid perfumes, wax salves and candles. The opaque metal protects the contents from light and will not shatter if dropped, making it suitable for products that customers carry in a bag or take on trips. The inside of the jar is treated with an epoxy coating, so the contents do not come into direct contact with the aluminium and do not react with it. The lid screws onto the wide neck and has a liner that seals the closure.

The container is suitable for use with cosmetic products; details are in the parameters.

What it is suitable for

  • Balms and solid creams – the wide opening makes it easy to scoop with a finger or spatula and the contents can be used right to the bottom.
  • Body butters and whipped butters – the 150 ml volume is enough for extended use and the jar remains light.
  • Cream deodorants and solid perfumes – the metal container will not break or crack when carried in a bag.
  • Wax salves and protective balms – semi-solid mixtures of wax and oil are poured into the jar while still warm and hold their shape once set.
  • Container candles – a wick with a sustainer tab is secured in the centre and the jar is filled with wax.

Filling and volume

Nominal volume is the volume the container is designed for at standard fill levels. Total brim-full volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is larger; both values are in the parameters. The difference between them is the clearance for the lid and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise the product will get onto the thread when closing and the lid will not seat properly.

Allow hot wax and oil mixtures to cool slightly before pouring and place the jar on a flat surface. The thin metal walls conduct heat quickly, the contents near the edge set sooner than in the centre and a dimple can form on the surface when pouring too fast.

Good to know

Before filling for the first time, wash the jar and lid, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to dry completely. Moisture under the lid shortens the shelf life of anhydrous products.

The jar is intended primarily for anhydrous and semi-solid products. For water-based formulas and emulsions that are scooped with a finger, verify that the chosen preservative is adequate for repeated opening and always test the product in its finished form.

With a candle, bear in mind that the jar wall also heats up during burning. Light the candle on a heat-resistant surface and choose the wick according to the diameter of the container, as with other container candles.

For the smooth silver surface, choose labels with good adhesion to metal.

Aluminium is infinitely recyclable. Sort the jar and lid with the plastic liner according to the material codes listed in the parameters.

Frequently asked questions

Does the aluminium jar react with cosmetic contents?
No, the contents do not come into contact with the aluminium. The inside of the jar is covered by an epoxy coating that separates the metal from the product. Balms, butters, deodorants and wax blends therefore do not attack the metal and the product does not change its scent or colour because of the container. For strongly acidic or alkaline formulas, we recommend verifying stability in the finished formulation.
Can the 150 ml aluminium jar be used for a candle?
Yes, the jar is also suitable for a container candle. A wick with a sustainer tab is secured in the centre, the wax is poured to the nominal volume and left to set. The metal wall heats up during burning, so light the candle on a heat-resistant surface and do not let it burn all the way to the bottom.
How to prepare the aluminium jar before first filling?
Wash the jar and lid, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to dry. Residual moisture under the lid would promote microbial growth in anhydrous products such as balms and butters. Once dry, fill immediately to prevent dust from getting inside.
Is the aluminium jar suitable for creams with water or only for anhydrous products?
It works best with anhydrous and semi-solid products such as balms, butters and solid deodorants. Emulsions with water can be filled into it, but an open jar from which product is scooped with a finger requires adequate preservation. Verify the behaviour of the specific formula in the container with a stability test.
Can the aluminium jar be reused?
Yes, once empty it just needs to be washed with warm water and detergent, disinfected and left to dry. The epoxy coating protects the inside from contact between the contents and the metal. Before the next fill, check that the liner in the lid is holding and sealing properly.
