Product description
The matte amber glass bottle with a volume of 30 ml and an 18 mm neck is designed for preparations that are harmed by light. Amber glass blocks part of the light radiation, so facial oils, serums with sensitive active ingredients, tinctures and essential oil blends stay better protected than in a clear bottle. The matte surface gives the packaging a muted look and a pleasant feel, which suits natural cosmetics. The volume corresponds to a common pack size for a facial serum or oil that lasts several weeks, so the bottle is also suitable for samples and for testing recipes before larger production. The packaging is suitable for use with cosmetic products; you will find the declaration of conformity with the product.
It is sold in a carton of 312 pcs, which pays off for regular production for sale, for gift series or in workshops where several batches are filled at once.
Suitable uses
- Facial and hair oils – vegetable oils prone to oxidation (rosehip, flaxseed, cranberry seed) last longer in dark glass without any change in scent.
- Serums – with a dropper they are dispensed drop by drop, which suits preparations with vitamin C, retinol or other light-sensitive substances.
- Tinctures and alcohol extracts – glass is not damaged by alcohol and does not pick up foreign odours from it.
- Essential oil blends and fragrance oils – the scent stays more stable when no light reaches the contents and the glass does not react with them.
- Samples and test batches – in a small volume, the stability of a recipe can be verified before a larger quantity is produced.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for under normal filling, and the product content is labelled accordingly. The total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between them is the allowance for the dropper, pump or inner part of the cap, and also space for the contents to expand when the temperature changes. Fill up to the nominal volume. If you fill to the brim, the contents overflow once the dropper is inserted.
Before filling a larger series, fit the chosen closure on one filled bottle and check how far its lower part reaches. Use this to set the filling level for the whole batch.
Closures
The bottle fits closures with the same neck type as stated in the parameters: caps, droppers, fine mist sprayers and pumps. You will find ready-made bottle + closure combinations in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend verifying the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation, especially for alcohol-based and very thin preparations.
Preparation before filling and reuse
Before first use, wash the bottles with warm water, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely upside down. Residual water in an oil or in an anhydrous preparation creates conditions for microbes to multiply, so it is worth giving the drying enough time. Glass withstands repeated washing and disinfection, so after thorough cleaning the bottle can be used again. The dropper and the cap are assessed separately, because rubber and plastic parts wear out faster.
Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes well. Let hot contents, for example a freshly heated oil phase or melted cosmetic butter, cool down before filling, or warm the bottles slightly beforehand with warm water.
Good to know
The level of the contents cannot be seen through the matte surface, so check the filling directly while filling, not afterwards through the wall of the bottle. For products intended for sale, fill with a measuring cup or on a scale so that all pieces have the same volume.
Amber glass protects the contents from light. It does not protect them from heat and air, so for preparations sensitive to oxidation, a small pack volume also helps. The contents are used up before they have time to deteriorate.
After use, the bottle is sorted as glass. Before disposal, the dropper or cap is separated and sorted according to its material.
