Product description

A ready-made roll-on set for 10 ml of oil-based perfume, an aromatherapy blend or a small amount of facial oil. It consists of an amber glass medicine bottle, a metal roller ball with a holder and a black cap – simply fill it and assemble it. The square shape sits well in the hand and does not roll on the table. The dark glass reduces light exposure and helps protect light-sensitive contents, for example blends with essential oils or oil-based perfumes.

The roller ball applies a thin layer directly to the skin. This is why the format is used for oil-based perfumes, aromatherapy blends for the temples or wrists, oil serums for the eye or lip area and products that should not spill across the whole palm. The set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products.

What it is suited for

  • Oil-based perfumes – the small volume and spot application match how a roll-on perfume is worn and used.
  • Aromatherapy blends – essential oils diluted in a carrier oil are applied precisely with the roller ball, without touching them with your fingers.
  • Oil serums for the eye area – the cooling touch of the metal roller ball is pleasant with this type of product and the dose stays small.
  • Samples and travel packs – 10 ml lasts for several weeks of regular use and the bottle takes up minimal space.

Filling and assembly

First pour the contents into the bottle, then press the roller ball with its holder into the neck so that it seats firmly, and finally screw on the cap. The 18/410 neck finish is fairly narrow, so a small funnel or a dropper helps when filling.

A roll-on works best with liquid to medium-thick contents that the roller ball carries onto the skin as it turns. Thick balms, creams or gels with high viscosity do not get through the roller ball or are applied unevenly.

Fill only up to the nominal volume and leave free space in the neck. When pressed in, the roller ball holder pushes part of the contents upwards, and a completely full bottle could overflow.

Bottle volume

The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for in normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is somewhat larger. The difference provides room for the roller ball holder and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

Good to know

Before the first filling, we recommend washing the bottle, disinfecting it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and letting it dry completely. Residual moisture does not belong in anhydrous contents.

The amber glass bottle can be used repeatedly. The roller ball with its holder is difficult to remove from the neck and may be damaged when pried out, so it is usually replaced with a new one when refilling. With every use, the contents come into contact with the plastic roller ball holder. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils or with alcohol, we therefore recommend checking in advance how the holder behaves with the specific contents and whether the set seals properly.

The glass withstands normal temperatures during filling, but a sudden change in temperature, for example hot contents poured into a cold bottle, may damage it. Fill the bottle only after the contents have cooled.

Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact. The cap and the roller ball do not have one, so the set as a whole is not intended for food use and is intended exclusively for cosmetics.

You can find other closures with the same neck type and ready-made packaging combinations in the Handymade range. Once empty, the glass goes into glass recycling; the plastic parts and the roller ball are separated from it.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber glass roll-on bottle protect its contents from light?
Yes, amber glass lets through significantly less light than clear glass and thereby slows down light-induced changes in the contents. It is therefore suitable for oil-based perfumes, blends with essential oils and oils sensitive to oxidation. However, the glass does not protect the contents from heat, so keep the bottle away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
What contents can be filled into a 10 ml roll-on bottle?
A roll-on bottle is filled with liquid to medium-thick products that the roller ball can transfer to the skin as it turns. Oil-based perfumes, carrier oils with essential oils and thin oil serums are suitable. Creams, balms and thick gels are applied poorly or not at all with a roller ball, so a jar or a bottle with a pump is more suitable for them.
Can a roll-on bottle be used repeatedly?
Yes, the glass bottle can: after washing and disinfecting it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol, it can be filled again. The roller ball with its holder is difficult to clean thoroughly once removed from the neck and is often damaged when pried out, so it is usually replaced with a new one when refilling. The cap only needs to be washed and left to dry.
Is the 10 ml glass roll-on bottle suitable for water-based or alcohol-based contents?
The glass bottle itself withstands both water-based and alcohol-based contents. In a roll-on, however, the contents pass through the plastic holder with the metal roller ball with every use, so for water-based, acidic or strongly alcohol-based formulations we recommend checking the behaviour of the roller ball and the tightness of the seal in the finished product. This format is most common for oil-based contents.
Is the roll-on set also suitable for food, for example kitchen oils?
No, the set as a whole is not intended for contact with food. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the cap and the roller ball do not have one. The whole set is declared as suitable for cosmetic products.
