What's in the set

Product description

A glass 100 ml vial made of brown glass with an 18/410 threaded neck is designed for cosmetic preparations that require protection from light. Dark glass reduces UV light penetration, making it suitable for serums, facial and body oils, tinctures, tonics, and concentrates with active ingredients whose stability decreases in light. The packaging is also suitable for direct food contact, so it can also be used for homemade herbal oils, syrups, infusions, or drops. It comes in packs of 68 pieces, which is a practical quantity for small-scale production, workshops, or preparing gift sets.

Why choose a brown glass vial

  • Protection of contents from light – brown glass absorbs part of UV radiation, slowing oxidation of oils, fading of dyes, and degradation of sensitive components such as vitamins or essential oils.
  • Chemical resistance of glass – glass does not react with oils, alcohol, acids, or essential oils, does not release plasticisers into the contents, and does not absorb odours. It is also suitable for preparations that could damage plastic.
  • Standard 18/410 neck – a widely used thread type for which you can choose a closure according to the dispensing method: dropper, spray pump, or standard cap.
  • Food and cosmetic grade – the packaging meets the requirements for contact with both cosmetics and food; a declaration of conformity is available with the product.
  • Reusable and recyclable – glass can be refilled after cleaning and, at the end of its life, belongs in glass recycling.

Nominal and total volume

Two figures are used for packaging. Nominal volume is the volume for which the bottle is intended during normal filling, and this is the figure stated on the product label. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume of the glass up to the neck. The difference between them provides a reserve for a dropper or spray pump, which when fitted extends into the inside of the bottle, as well as space for the expansion of contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Both values are stated in the product parameters.

If you plan to close the bottle with a dropper or spray pump, fill it to the nominal volume and fit the closure before applying the label. This way you can verify that nothing overflows after fitting and that the level sits where it should.

Suitable for products such as

  • Facial and hair serums with vitamins, retinoids, or plant extracts that lose effectiveness in light.
  • Facial, body, and massage oils – dark glass slows yellowing and oxidation of vegetable oils; the 100 ml volume suits both home and retail packaging.
  • Essential oil blends, tinctures, and alcoholic extracts – glass does not react with alcohol or essential oils and does not release any substances into the contents.
  • Tonics and facial mists in combination with a spray pump with an 18/410 neck.
  • Food use – herbal oils, syrups, vinegar infusions, or drops; the packaging is approved for direct food contact.

Use and preparation of the packaging

Before first filling, wash the bottle with warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Leave to dry completely with the neck facing down so that no water remains inside, which could dilute the contents or promote microbial growth in preparations without a preservative. When filling oils and serums, a small funnel or filling syringe is useful, as the 18/410 threaded neck is narrow.

The bottle can be reused after emptying and cleaning. When reusing, pay particular attention to the thread and neck where residue tends to accumulate, and disinfect them after washing in the same way as for the first fill. Droppers and spray pumps wear out faster than the glass, so replace them when refilling.

Glass withstands sudden temperature changes poorly. Do not fill a cold bottle with a hot phase and do not place it from a cold environment directly into hot water. Allow the contents to cool to approximately room temperature before filling, or pre-temper the bottle.

Closures and combinations

The bottle is compatible with closures with an 18/410 neck, which you will find in the Handymade range along with ready-made bottle + closure combinations. With your own combination, we recommend checking the seal, dispensing method, and packaging behaviour with a specific formulation in advance – especially with alcoholic and oily contents, where the closure seal material matters.

Good to know

  • Dark glass is not complete protection – it absorbs part of UV radiation, but does not replace storage in the dark. Store preparations with highly sensitive ingredients away from direct sunlight even in brown glass.
  • Weight and transport – glass is heavier than plastic, which should be taken into account when calculating postage and packing larger batches. When shipping bottles, cushion them with padding so they do not knock against each other.
  • Recycling – an empty and rinsed bottle belongs in glass recycling; the material code is stated in the parameters.
  • Pack of 68 pieces – the price and unit apply to the full pack.

Frequently asked questions

Does a brown glass bottle protect contents from light?
Yes, brown glass absorbs a significant portion of UV radiation, slowing oxidation of oils and degradation of sensitive active ingredients. However, it is not a complete barrier – visible light partially passes through the glass. Preparations containing vitamin C, retinol, or essential oils are therefore best stored away from direct sunlight even in brown glass.
Is the 100 ml glass vial suitable for essential oils and alcoholic tinctures?
Yes, glass is one of the most suitable materials for essential oils, alcoholic extracts, and concentrates. It does not react with alcohol or essential oils and does not release any substances into the contents, unlike some plastics. Attention should be paid primarily to the closure – its seal should be resistant to essential oils or alcohol so that it does not deteriorate over time.
How much liquid actually fits in the glass vial?
The bottle is designed to be filled to a nominal volume of 100 ml. The physical volume to the brim is slightly larger, but this difference serves as a reserve for a dropper or spray pump and for the expansion of contents with temperature changes. If filled to the brim, the contents would overflow once the closure is fitted. The exact values of both volumes are stated in the product parameters.
Can I fill food in the brown glass bottle?
Yes, the packaging is suitable for direct food contact under normal conditions of use, as confirmed by the declaration of conformity available with the product. It is therefore suitable for homemade herbal oils, syrups, vinegar infusions, or drops. When using for food, also verify that your chosen closure is suitable for food contact, as the declaration applies to the bottle itself.
What closure fits a glass vial with an 18/410 thread?
Any closure with an 18/410 neck fits the bottle, which is a widely used standard for smaller bottles and vials. Depending on the dispensing method, you can choose between a dropper, spray pump, or cap; all variants with this neck and ready-made bottle + closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. Always verify the seal with the specific contents when using your own combination.
