Product description
Glass bottle, vial type B, tall, 18 mm, 10 ml
The small brown glass vial is designed for contents that need to be protected from light and dispensed drop by drop: blends of essential oils, facial oil serums, face oils, alcohol tinctures, fragrance concentrates, or product samples. Dark glass reduces light penetration and thereby slows the oxidation of sensitive ingredients. The tall type B design has a slim shape that fits comfortably in the hand and saves shelf space. The bottles are supplied in packs of 160 pieces.
The packaging is approved for direct contact with food and for contact with cosmetic products, making it also suitable for homemade aromatic oils, herbal extracts, syrups, or concentrated kitchen essences. The declaration of conformity and related documentation are listed with the product.
Why choose brown glass
- Protection of contents from light – brown glass absorbs a large portion of UV radiation, which accelerates the oxidation of oils and the breakdown of sensitive ingredients. Essential oils, vitamin serums, and plant oils with a higher proportion of unsaturated fatty acids will thus retain their scent and efficacy for longer.
- Chemical resistance – glass does not react with the contents and releases no substances into them. It is therefore suitable for concentrated essential oils, alcohol solutions, and solvents that could deteriorate certain plastics over time.
- No odour transfer – glass does not absorb the smell of previous contents, can be thoroughly washed and reused for a different fragrance or formulation.
- Precise dispensing – a dropper or spray can be fitted onto the 18/410 neck thread, allowing very small amounts to be dispensed from the bottle.
Nominal and total volume
For each container we distinguish two figures. Nominal volume is the quantity for which the bottle is intended at standard fill. Total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them is a reserve for the dropper or spray, which once fitted take up part of the space, and also for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle is filled to nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle will overflow once the dropper is fitted, and the closure may not seal correctly.
With oil serums and essential oil blends, leave at least a small air gap in the neck. Oil expands slightly with heat, and the dropper when pressed will push some of the contents out if the bottle is filled right up to the neck.
Practical applications
Thanks to its small volume, the bottle is suited to products used drop by drop or in small amounts:
- Essential oil blends and fragrance concentrates – dark glass protects the aromatic components from light and is resistant to undiluted essential oils.
- Oil serums and facial oils – the tall shape with a dropper allows a few drops to be measured out per application.
- Alcohol tinctures and extracts – ethanol in tinctures will not affect the glass or its appearance, which cannot always be said for some plastics.
- Samples and test batches – the small volume is practical during formulation development or as a finished product sample for a customer.
- Food concentrates – aromatic oils, herbal essences, or concentrated syrups, since the container is certified for food contact.
Closures with the same neck type, as well as ready-made bottle and closure combinations, are available in the Handymade range. When making your own combination, we recommend checking the seal, dispensing method, and container behaviour with your specific formulation in advance.
Good to know
Preparation before first filling. Before filling with cosmetics or food, we recommend rinsing the bottles with clean water, disinfecting with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and leaving them to dry completely neck down. Residual water inside would not show up immediately in an anhydrous oil, but could promote the growth of micro-organisms.
Reuse. Glass can be washed and refilled without difficulty. When changing the contents, especially after essential oils, thorough washing with warm water and detergent, rinsing, and disinfection are advisable. The dropper and closure wear out faster than the bottle, so inspect them when reusing.
Glass and temperature. Glass tolerates heat better than plastic, but does not handle sudden temperature changes well. Do not fill a cold bottle with hot contents, or vice versa. Allow both the contents and the container to reach a similar temperature; otherwise there is a risk of cracking.
Labelling. The tall, slim shape offers a flat surface for a label around the circumference of the bottle. For oily contents, we recommend a label with an adhesive resistant to grease, as a drop of oil on the neck spreads easily down the bottle.
Glass is fragile. When transporting finished products, allow for protective packaging, and when filling a larger number of bottles, work on a soft surface so that they do not break if accidentally dropped.
Recycling. The bottle is made of glass, which is fully recyclable and can be remelted repeatedly without any loss of quality.
