Product description

Glass bottle, type B vial, tall, 18 mm, 10 ml

A bottle designed for concentrated products where light protection matters. Brown glass absorbs a large portion of UV radiation, so essential oils, serums, oil blends and tinctures retain their scent and efficacy longer. The nominal volume of 10 ml suits products dispensed by the drop or in small quantities. The narrow, tall vial shape takes up little space, fits comfortably in the hand and allows precise work when dispensing drop by drop.

The bottle has an 18/410 neck finish, a standard size for caps, droppers and small sprayers. The European-origin glass is suitable for contact with cosmetics and is also approved for direct food contact, making it suitable for home herbal infusions, flavoured oils or concentrated syrups in small quantities.

Why choose brown glass

  • Light protection – brown glass attenuates both visible and UV radiation, which accelerates oil oxidation and the degradation of sensitive active ingredients. The contents retain their scent, colour and properties longer.
  • Chemical resistance – glass does not react with essential oils, alcohol or most solvents. Unlike some plastics, it does not soften, cloud or transfer any odour into the contents.
  • Small volume for concentrates – the contents are used up before they lose freshness, and nothing stays open for months.
  • Reusability – once empty, the bottle can be washed, disinfected and refilled without any change in its properties.

Nominal and total volume

Every container has two distinct volumes. The nominal volume is the quantity the bottle is intended to hold under normal filling conditions, and this is the figure shown on the label. The total brim-full volume is the physical capacity up to the neck and is always higher. The difference provides headspace for the dropper or cap liner and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Exact values for both volumes are given in the product specifications.

If you plan to use a dropper, leave sufficient headspace in the neck. Inserting a dropper displaces some of the contents, and an overfilled bottle will overflow or prevent the closure from being tightened properly.

Closures and combinations

The bottle is sold without a closure. Caps, droppers and sprayers with the same 18/410 neck finish, as well as ready-made bottle-and-closure combinations, are available in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal, the behaviour of the dispenser and the compatibility of the gasket with the specific formulation, especially for essential oils and alcohol-based products.

Suitable for products such as

  • Essential oils and fragrance compositions – concentrates sensitive to light and oxidation, dispensed by the drop.
  • Facial and eye serums – the small volume matches realistic consumption while the product stays fresh.
  • Oil blends and tinctures – including alcohol-based infusions, with which glass withstands prolonged contact without issue.
  • Samples and testers – for presenting your own products, gift sets or travel packaging.
  • Food-grade concentrates – flavoured oils, herbal infusions or concentrated syrups in small quantities.

Good to know

Before filling for the first time, wash and disinfect the bottle with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow it to dry completely. Residual water could spoil anhydrous oil-based products. The same procedure applies when reusing the bottle; remove any residue of the previous contents and the label beforehand.

Glass tolerates temperature fluctuations, but a sudden transition from cold to a hot environment can cause cracking. Allow hot contents to cool to at least lukewarm temperature before filling.

The narrow, tall bottle offers less label area than wider containers. Bottle dimensions are listed in the specifications; when designing a label, allow for the taper in the upper section. At the end of its useful life, the bottle should go into glass recycling sorted by colour.

Brown glass protects against light, not against air. Fill products susceptible to oxidation as close to the nominal volume as possible and close the bottle immediately after each use to limit contact between the contents and air.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 10 ml brown glass bottle suitable for essential oils?
Yes, brown glass is among the recommended containers for essential oils. It protects the contents from light, which accelerates oxidation, and does not react with concentrated aromatic substances the way some plastics can. The 10 ml volume corresponds to common essential oil packaging and the 18/410 neck allows a dropper or cap from the Handymade range to be used.
How many ml can be poured into the 10 ml vial?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 10 ml, not to the brim. The total brim-full capacity is higher, but this difference serves as headspace for the closure, the dropper and expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The exact total volume is stated in the product specifications. Overfilling risks spillage when a dropper is inserted or leakage at the closure.
Can the 10 ml glass bottle be reused?
Yes, the glass bottle is intended for repeated use. Once empty, wash it with warm water and a cleaning agent, remove any residue, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow it to dry completely. When changing the type of contents — for example, from an essential oil to a water-based product — thorough cleaning is especially important to prevent scent transfer.
Is the 10 ml brown vial also suitable for food?
Yes, this container is approved for direct food contact as well as for cosmetics. It is therefore suitable for small quantities of flavoured oils, herbal infusions or concentrated syrups. The declaration of conformity is available on the product page. If combined with a closure, verify that the closure is also rated for food contact; otherwise food suitability applies to the bottle only.
Which closure fits the 18/410 neck bottle?
All caps, droppers and small sprayers with an 18/410 finish fit the bottle. This designation indicates the neck diameter and thread type, so closures with the same code are interchangeable. The specific range of closures and ready-made bottle-and-closure combinations is available in the Handymade assortment. When using your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal with the intended contents.
Why choose a brown glass bottle instead of a clear one?
Brown glass absorbs most UV radiation and a portion of visible light; clear glass transmits light with almost no restriction. For light-sensitive products — such as essential oils, vegetable oils with a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, or vitamin-based serums — brown glass extends the time during which the contents retain their scent and properties. Clear glass is more appropriate where the customer needs to see the contents and the product is not sensitive to light.
