Product description

The type B tall glass medicine bottle with a roll-on applicator is used to apply liquid cosmetic preparations directly to the skin, without dripping and without touching the product with your fingers. The set consists of an amber glass medicine bottle with a volume of 10 ml, an insert with a metal roller ball and a black plastic cap. Amber glass filters light, so it is also suitable for contents that lose their scent or change colour in light: perfume oils, oil blends with essential oils, cuticle oils, lip oil or a spot serum for small areas of the face.

The roller ball applicator delivers a thin layer exactly where it is needed. With a roll-on perfume or an aromatherapy blend for the temples and wrists, rolling the ball once or twice is enough. The contents do not spill and the small bottle fits into a handbag.

What the set consists of

  • 10 ml glass medicine bottle – amber glass, type B tall shape. Once empty, it can be washed and refilled.
  • Insert with a metal roller ball – a polypropylene socket in which a steel ball rotates. It is fitted onto the neck after filling.
  • Plastic cap – black, screw-on, made of polypropylene. It covers the roller ball and prevents the contents from drying out or leaking during transport.

All three components have the same neck finish, as stated in the parameters. You can find further closures for this neck and other ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. For your own custom set, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.

What it is suitable for

  • Roll-on perfumes – both oil-based and alcohol-based fragrance compositions for application to pulse points.
  • Aromatherapy blends – essential oils diluted in a carrier oil, for example for the temples, wrists or neck.
  • Cuticle oil – the ball dispenses a small amount exactly onto the edge of the nail.
  • Lip oil and spot care – light oils and serums for small areas where a dropper dispenses too much.

A roll-on works best with liquid contents of lower viscosity. Thick oils, butters or gels are transferred poorly by the ball and the applicator may become clogged.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 10 ml is the amount the medicine bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful volume stated in the parameters is the physical volume up to the top of the neck. The difference provides a reserve for the roller ball insert, which takes up part of the space in the neck once fitted, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes.

Fill to the nominal volume. When the roller ball insert is fitted, the liquid level rises and an overfilled medicine bottle will overflow through the neck.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the medicine bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. Treat the roller ball insert and the cap in the same way, but dry them at room temperature.

After filling, the roller ball insert is pressed onto the neck and the cap is screwed on. For contents with a higher proportion of essential oils or alcohol, we recommend observing the set for several weeks before larger-scale production: tightness, free movement of the ball and any changes in scent.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. You can find the declaration of conformity with the product.

Only the glass medicine bottle has a certificate for direct contact with food. The roller ball insert and the cap do not have one, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

Once empty, the medicine bottle can be washed and refilled. When changing the contents, especially with perfumes, bear in mind that the plastic insert may retain the previous scent. In that case, it is better to replace it with a new one. After washing, the glass medicine bottle goes into glass recycling and the cap into plastic.

Frequently asked questions

Does an amber glass roll-on medicine bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass reduces the transmission of light and thus slows down the changes that take place in oils and fragrance compositions when exposed to light. However, it does not replace storage in a cool, dark place. We recommend keeping blends with essential oils and perfume oils away from direct sunlight and heat sources even in an amber medicine bottle.
How much product fits into a 10 ml roll-on medicine bottle?
With normal filling, 10 ml, which is the nominal volume. Physically the medicine bottle is slightly larger, and you can find the brimful value in the parameters. This space is, however, taken up by the roller ball insert and serves as a reserve for the expansion of the contents. Filling to the brim leads to overflow when the ball is fitted.
Is a glass roll-on suitable for essential oils?
It is suitable for essential oils diluted in a carrier oil, which is the usual form of an aromatherapy roll-on. The ball socket and the cap are made of polypropylene, so with a high proportion of essential oils we recommend verifying the behaviour of the plastic parts with a longer test before larger-scale production.
Can a roll-on medicine bottle be washed and reused?
Yes, the glass medicine bottle can be washed, disinfected and refilled. The roller ball insert can be removed and rinsed, but with perfumes it often retains a residue of the previous scent. When changing the contents, it is therefore more reliable to replace the insert with a new one and keep only the glass and the cap.
Is the roll-on medicine bottle suitable for water-based toners or alcohol-based perfumes?
For alcohol-based perfumes, yes, a roll-on with an oil-based or alcohol-based composition is commonly used for pulse points. For water-based and very thin contents, we recommend checking the tightness of the set beforehand, because the behaviour of the ball with a thin liquid depends on the specific formulation. Water-based contents also require preservation, as in any other packaging.
