Product description
Amber glass medicine bottle with a square body for 45 ml of oils, serums and tinctures that need to stay protected from light. Amber glass reduces the amount of daylight reaching the contents, so it suits essential oil blends, vegetable oils prone to oxidation and alcohol extracts. The straight walls keep the bottle stable on a table and in a box, and larger quantities line up neatly side by side. A pack of 80 suits a smaller production batch or a longer-term supply for a workshop.
What it is good for
- Essential oil blends – glass does not react with essential oils, and the amber colour slows their degradation by light. A volume of 45 ml suits a massage blend or a refill bottle for a diffuser.
- Face and hair oils, oil serums – a volume that is used up before the oils have time to age. They can be dispensed with a dropper or a pump.
- Tinctures and alcohol extracts – glass withstands alcohol without change, and dark glass protects the extract from fading and from the breakdown of sensitive components.
- Samples and test batches – for stability tests or when handing out samples to customers, 45 ml lasts for several weeks of use.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume of 45 ml is the amount the medicine bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful volume given in the parameters is the physical volume of the glass up to the neck. The difference between the two values leaves room for the submerged part of the dropper or pump, for the closure and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If the bottle is filled to the neck, the contents are pushed out when the dropper is inserted and the bottle leaks.
Measure out 45 ml of water and mark the liquid level on one bottle. The remaining bottles can then be filled quickly and evenly without weighing each one.
Choosing a closure
The medicine bottle has a neck with an 18 mm thread, so it takes caps, droppers and pumps with the same type of thread. You can find ready-made bottle + closure combinations in the Handymade range. If you put together your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and dispensing with your specific formulation, especially for essential oils and alcohol extracts, which put strain on the seal and the plastic parts.
Good to know
- Preparation before first filling – wash the bottles in warm water, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to air-dry upside down. No residual water should get into an oil-based product.
- Reuse – when changing the contents, for example from essential oils to a face oil, bear in mind that the scent lingers in the closure, not in the glass.
- Glass and temperature – let hot contents cool before filling. A sudden temperature difference between the contents and cold glass can damage the bottle.
- Suitability for cosmetics – the packaging is suitable for use with cosmetic products, and the declaration of conformity is available with the product.
- Recycling – once emptied and rinsed, the bottle belongs in glass recycling.
Amber glass dims light but does not block it completely. Store filled bottles away from direct sunlight, especially with citrus essential oils and oils rich in unsaturated fatty acids.
