Product description
Black dropper with safety lock, 52 mm is a pipette with a glass draw tube, silicone bulb and a black plastic screw cap. It is used for precise extraction and drop-by-drop dispensing of liquid contents from glass bottles with the same thread type. The cap features a child-resistant safety lock, useful wherever you do not want the bottle to open with a single twist – with essential oils, concentrated actives or tinctures.
It is particularly suitable for facial serums, face and beard oil blends, essential oils and their dilutions, hair and nail oils, serums with actives dosed by the drop, and herbal tinctures. The black cap pairs well with amber, black and clear bottles and lets your own label design stand out.
Key features
- Precise drop-by-drop dispensing – the glass tube with its narrow tip lets you take exactly as much as you need, without spilling and without finger contact with the contents.
- Cap safety lock – the cap cannot be opened by an accidental twist, for example inside a bag or by children. Before filling, practise how the lock disengages so you can explain the opening procedure to the customer on the label or in the instructions.
- Glass in contact with the contents – the draw tube is made of glass, which does not react with oils, essential oils or alcohol-based solutions and imparts no odour or colour to the contents.
- Length 52 mm – the dropper is intended for bottles whose inner height matches this glass length. The tip should reach just above the bottom so that the glass does not rest on it.
- Thread 18/415 – a standard thread type used on small glass bottles. Bottles with this thread and ready-made bottle + dropper sets are available in the Handymade range.
Use and filling
The dropper screws onto a bottle with an 18/415 thread just like a standard cap. When combining a bottle and dropper yourself, we recommend checking three things before batch filling: tightness after screwing on, the correct glass length relative to the bottle height, and the bulb behaviour with your specific formulation. The bottle height is listed in its parameters.
Fill the bottle to its nominal volume, not to the brim. The headspace between the liquid level and the neck is reserved for the glass part of the dropper, which displaces some of the contents upward when screwed in.
When fitting the dropper onto a full bottle, gently squeeze the bulb first, then submerge the glass tube and only then screw on the cap. This prevents the contents from squirting out of the tip and avoids an air bubble remaining in the tube that would disrupt dosing on first use.
The dropper is suitable for contact with cosmetic products; the declaration can be found in the product parameters. Suitability for food-contact use is not declared for this cap, so we recommend using it for cosmetics only.
Good to know
The silicone bulb is resistant to most cosmetic oils and alcohol-based solutions, but with a high proportion of essential oils or more aggressive solvents it may soften or discolour over time. During normal use the bulb does not come into contact with the contents – the liquid stays in the glass tube – so do not draw the contents up into the bulb. With concentrated blends we recommend testing a single unit and checking after several weeks that the bulb retains its shape and elasticity.
Before the first fill, wash the dropper, disinfect the glass part with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow it to dry completely. Residual water in the tube would dilute the first doses and could promote spoilage in anhydrous oil-based products.
For repeated use, disassemble the dropper, rinse the glass with alcohol and wash the bulb with warm water and a mild detergent. Do not dry the bulb with direct heat, and protect the glass tip from impact – it is thin and may chip if dropped. Never put damaged glass into a product for sale.
The cap safety lock is a mechanical guard against accidental opening. If your formulation is a classified mixture for which legislation requires a child-resistant closure, verify in the packaging documentation whether this cap meets that requirement, or choose a cap with an explicit child-resistance declaration.
The cap consists of three materials – glass, silicone and plastic. When recycling, separate the parts and sort them by material.
