Product description
A glass jar with a black lid and inner liner with a volume of 15 ml is a small complete packaging for finished cosmetics. It is particularly suitable for eye creams, concentrated facial balms, ointments, cream samples, solid perfumes, and lip balms. The black glossy glass completely conceals the contents, reduces light penetration, and gives the small packaging a cohesive look even without a full wrap-around label.
The set consists of three components that function as a single package: the jar holds the contents, the liner protects it during closing, and the lid seals the whole.
What the set contains and how it works
- Glass jar – a low, wide-neck shape that is easy to fill with a spoon or spatula and equally easy to scoop from. Glass does not react with common cosmetic bases, making it suitable for both oil-based and water-based emulsions.
- Plastic lid – a screw-on closure made of polypropylene in the same black colour as the jar, so the packaging looks uniform. Polypropylene tolerates common cosmetic fats, oils, and waxes.
- Inner liner – a thin polypropylene disc that is placed on top of the contents before closing. It protects the surface of the cream from contact with the lid, reduces drying out, and during transport catches any contents that would otherwise be pushed into the thread.
Thanks to the liner, the surface of the cream remains smooth even after transport and the lid does not get stuck with the contents, which is a common problem with small jars without a liner.
What products it suits
A volume of 15 ml corresponds to products that are used in small amounts and last longer: eye creams and gels, concentrated serums in cream form, balms for lips and cuticles, solid perfumes, restorative ointments, or face masks for one to several uses. It also serves as a sample packaging of creams for customers or for testing a new formula before a larger production run.
The wide neck and low shape allow even thicker textures to be filled that could not be put into a bottle: thick butters, cold-set balms, creams with a higher wax content.
The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. It is not approved for contact with food, so we do not recommend it for homemade food products.
Nominal and total volume
When filling, follow the nominal volume, i.e. the volume the jar is designed for. The total volume to the brim is larger and represents the physical space up to the neck. The difference is a reserve for the inner liner, for the lid to seat properly, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The jar is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled jar will push the contents into the thread and the lid will then not seal.
Balms and butters that are poured hot should be left to cool and set in the jar before inserting the liner and closing the lid. Warm contents will stick to the liner when closed and leave an uneven surface after setting.
What is good to know when working with the jar
Preparation before first filling. Before filling, wash the new jar, lid, and liner, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Residual moisture in the packaging is the most common cause of early spoilage of water-based creams.
Temperature. Glass tolerates warm contents, but may crack with a sudden temperature difference. Pour hot balm into a jar at room temperature, not into a cold one from the refrigerator. The lid and liner made of polypropylene tolerate normal filling temperatures, but not boiling.
Reuse. The glass jar and lid can be reused after washing and disinfection. We recommend replacing the liner with a new one for each new batch.
Labelling. Black glass does not require a full wrap-around label, as it conceals the contents itself. Most commonly, the label is applied to the lid or the base.
A wide-neck jar opens with fingers, so always fill water-based creams with a preservative, even for a small volume that will be used up quickly. Anhydrous balms and butters do not require a preservative, but an antioxidant will extend their shelf life.
Recycling. Glass goes into glass recycling, the lid and liner made of polypropylene go into plastics. Separate the components before disposal.
Closures with the same neck type as this jar and further ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range. When creating your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal and the behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation.
