Product description

The 28/410 plastic dropper cap is a drop-dosing closure for bottles and vials with a 28/410 type neck. It combines two functions in one piece: it seals the bottle and at the same time lets you dispense the contents precisely, without spilling and without swapping the dropper and cap after every use. It is especially suited to liquid products dosed in small amounts – tinctures, herbal extracts, oil blends, bath concentrates or diluted fragrance compositions. The black colour matches both brown and black bottles, and on clear glass it works as a contrast.

The cap is made of polypropylene (PP), a light and durable plastic commonly used for closures for both cosmetics and food. The closure has certification for direct food contact as well as suitability for cosmetic products, so it will serve for homemade oils, syrups, vinegar or spirit extracts just as well as for cosmetics.

How the dropper works

Under the screw-off cap there is a dropper with a narrow opening, through which the contents flow out drop by drop when the bottle is tilted, instead of in a continuous stream. With a plastic bottle you can help by gently squeezing the walls; with a glass one it is enough to tilt it and, if needed, lightly tap the bottom. The size and pace of the drops depend on the viscosity of the contents. Thin liquids (alcohol tinctures, hydrosols, aqueous solutions) drip quickly, thicker oils more slowly and in larger drops. For very thick products, such as syrups or viscous serums, the dropper is not a suitable dosing method and a pump will serve better.

After taking a dose you simply screw the cap back on, with the dropper remaining in the bottle. The contents are thus not needlessly exposed to air and the bottle can be safely stored or carried.

Key features

  • Drop-by-drop dosing – lets you take small amounts precisely, which will be appreciated especially by users of tinctures, extracts and concentrates.
  • Closure and dropper in one – no need to open and decant the bottle, or to swap two different closures.
  • Food and cosmetic certification – the same closure will serve for both kitchen and cosmetic products.
  • Durable and light – suitable also for bottles that are often carried around.
  • Black colour – a neutral look that suits both dark and clear bottles.

Which bottles it fits

The cap fits all bottles and vials with a 28/410 neck, that is, with a neck diameter of 28 mm. This is a widespread size found on larger plastic and glass bottles. You will find bottles with the same neck type as well as ready-made bottle + closure combinations in the Handymade range. For your own combination we recommend checking the tightness, the behaviour of the dropper with the specific contents, and whether the bottle neck matches not only in diameter but also in height.

Before you fill a whole series of bottles, fill one and test how quickly the specific contents drip and whether the closure seals when tilted and turned over. With oils and alcohol solutions the behaviour can differ considerably.

Which products it suits

  • Herbal tinctures and spirit extracts – thin, dosed drop by drop.
  • Oil blends and body oils – for dosing into the palm or the bath.
  • Concentrates and aromatic blends for diffusers – if diluted in a carrier oil or alcohol.
  • Homemade food products – flavoured oils, vinegars, herbal syrups of thinner consistency.

With pure essential oils we recommend caution. Concentrated essential oils can, on prolonged contact, soften or stain the plastic, and glass vials with a glass dropper are commonly used for them. If you want to use this cap for undiluted essential oils, check compatibility on a single bottle over several weeks.

Good to know

Before first use we recommend to wash, rinse with clean water and disinfect both the cap and the dropper with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, then let them dry completely. This applies especially when filling cosmetics without preservation or food.

The cap can be reused if you thoroughly clean the dropper after emptying the bottle. When changing the contents (for example from oil to tincture), bear in mind that the narrow opening is harder to clean than a smooth cap.

Polypropylene is a recyclable plastic and at the end of its life belongs in separated plastic collection according to the rules in your locality.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 28/410 plastic dropper cap suitable for food?
Yes, the cap has certification for direct food contact and is also suitable for cosmetics. It is made of polypropylene, which is commonly used for food closures. When using it for food, make sure the bottle itself is likewise approved – the declaration of conformity and certificates can be found with each container in the parameters.
Which bottles does the 28/410 dropper cap fit?
The cap fits bottles and vials with a 28/410 neck, that is, with a neck diameter of 28 mm. The neck type is given for each bottle in the parameters, so it is enough to compare the marking. For bottles from other sources we recommend checking not only the diameter but also the height of the neck, because the closure must seat on the rim of the neck and seal.
Can a thick oil or serum be dosed through this cap?
A thick oil yes, but slowly and in larger drops. For a viscous serum or syrup the dropper is not suitable. The dripping speed depends on the viscosity of the contents – thin tinctures and hydrosols drip quickly, thick oils release slowly when the bottle is tilted. For thick products a pump is more suitable, which you will find in the range with the same neck type.
Can I use the plastic dropper cap for pure essential oils?
With undiluted essential oils we recommend checking compatibility on a single bottle first. Concentrated essential oils can soften or stain the plastic on prolonged contact. For pure essential oils, glass vials with a glass dropper are standardly used. This cap is a reliable choice for blends diluted in a carrier oil or alcohol.
How to clean the dropper cap before reuse?
Wash both the cap and the dropper with warm water and detergent, rinse thoroughly, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. With oil residues it is advisable to first rinse the dropper with warm water and detergent, otherwise the narrow opening clogs. Drying is important especially when filling unpreserved products, so that no water remains in the dropper.
