Product description

The black plastic cream pump with a smoke-coloured cap is a pump with an 18/415 neck finish that turns a narrow-neck bottle into a hygienic dispensing package. It is best suited for serums, facial fluids, light creams and emulsions applied in small amounts without fingers touching the contents. The black body and translucent smoke cap read as neutral, so they pair with clear, amber and frosted glass without competing with the label.

Why a pump instead of a standard cap

  • Hygienic application – contents leave the bottle only through the pump head; nothing from the skin or surroundings reaches the remaining product. With water-based serums and emulsions this reduces the load on the preservation system.
  • Small, repeatable dose – each press delivers approximately 0.14 ml, which is an advantage with concentrated formulations where a few drops cover the entire face. No waste, no overdosing.
  • Protected pump head – the smoke cap covers the pump head, shielding it from dust and accidental depression in a bag or drawer.
  • Durable material – the pump is made from polypropylene (PP), which withstands common cosmetic ingredients and will not shatter if dropped.

What it is suited for

The pump is designed for bottles with an 18/415 neck finish, typically the smaller volumes in which serums and facial oils are sold. The small dose per press matches exactly these product types: water-based and gel serums, light fluids, facial oils and thinner emulsions. It also works well for treatments and concentrates containing active ingredients where one or two presses is the intended dose.

Thick creams, butters, balms and products with high viscosity will either not draw up into the pump or will dispense unevenly. For those textures a jar or a pump with a wider neck and a larger dose output is more suitable.

The dip tube is supplied at a single length and can be trimmed to fit the bottle height. Cut it so the end sits just above the bottom, and make the cut at an angle. An angled tip will not suction itself to the base and the pump will draw out even the last residue of the contents.

What is good to know when filling and using

Before first use, rinse the pump with clean water or ethanol, press it several times while empty and allow it to dry completely. Sanitising with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol is advisable when filling water-based formulations where microbiological cleanliness matters.

After filling and fitting, the pump requires several presses before the dip tube and mechanism prime with product. This is normal behaviour, not a fault. This is a standard airless-free pump that lets air back into the bottle with each press. For formulations sensitive to oxidation it is therefore advisable to verify the stability of the formulation in this type of closure.

The pump is suitable for use with cosmetic products; a declaration of conformity is available on the product page. For formulations with a high content of essential oils or solvents we recommend testing on a single unit before larger production runs. When combining with a bottle of your own choice, also check that the neck threads seal correctly and that the pump behaves as expected with the specific texture. Bottles with the same neck finish and ready-made bottle-and-pump combinations are available in the Handymade range.

The pump seals only on a neck with an 18/415 thread. Do not force it onto a different neck size; the thread will be damaged and the package will leak.

Reuse is possible provided the pump is rinsed thoroughly and dried. The interior of the mechanism cannot be cleaned completely, however, so when changing product or when working with formulations for sensitive skin we recommend using a fresh pump. Polypropylene is sorted as recyclable plastic.

Frequently asked questions

Which bottles is the 18/415 cream pump compatible with?
The cream pump fits any bottle with an 18/415 neck finish, regardless of its material or colour. Only the thread type listed in the bottle specifications matters. In addition to the thread, check the bottle height so the trimmed dip tube reaches just above the base. With a different neck size the pump will not seal and the package will leak.
Can the cream pump be used with thick creams or butters?
No, this cream pump is not suitable for thick creams and butters. The small dose and narrow dip tube are designed for serums, fluids, oils and fluid emulsions. A dense texture will either not draw up at all, or will dispense unevenly and the pump may air-lock. For cream consistencies a jar or a pump with a wider neck is a better choice.
Why does the cream pump not dispense during the first few presses?
The cream pump needs several presses after filling before the dip tube and mechanism prime with product. During the first strokes it expels only air, then begins delivering a consistent dose. If there is still no output after ten presses, check that the dip tube reaches the contents and that the cut end is not suctioned against the base.
Does the smoke cap on the cream pump protect the contents from light?
No, the smoke cap only protects the pump head from dust and accidental depression; it does not protect the contents from light. Light protection for the contents is provided by the bottle. For formulations sensitive to light, such as those containing vegetable oils or vitamins, choose amber, cobalt or frosted glass and add the pump as a complement.
Is the cream pump suitable for oil serums and formulations with essential oils?
Yes, the polypropylene cream pump is also suitable for facial oils and oil-based serums. Polypropylene is compatible with common cosmetic ingredients including vegetable oils. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents we recommend testing on a single unit before larger production runs to verify the seal and mechanism behaviour.
How do you clean and reuse the cream pump?
Rinse the cream pump with warm water, pump clean water or ethanol through it and allow it to dry completely. Used this way it can be reused for the same or a similar formulation. The interior of the mechanism cannot be cleaned entirely, however, so when switching products or working with formulations for sensitive skin it is better to reach for a new pump.
