Product description

A clear glass jar, 25 ml, with a black lid and inner liner is a ready-to-use complete set for packaging small volumes of cosmetics. The nominal volume of 25 ml suits products used in small doses over a longer period: balms, salves, eye and face creams, solid perfumes, cream deodorants or samples of larger products. Clear glass reveals the colour and texture of the contents, which you will appreciate with coloured balms, scrubs, or when selling at markets and in small batches.

The set comes with all three parts, so there is no need to buy a closure separately or search for the right neck size. The packaging is suitable for use with cosmetic products. The declaration of conformity and confirmation of suitability for cosmetics are available with the product.

What the set contains and how it works

  • Glass jar – a low shape with a wide neck, from which the contents are easily scooped with a finger or spatula. Glass does not react with the contents and is also suitable for oil- and wax-based formulations, with which some plastics soften over time.
  • Black plastic lid – a screw closure with a soft foam sealing insert that presses against the neck when tightened and seals the contents. The black colour contrasts with the clear glass and suits both minimalist and darker labels.
  • Inner liner – a thin plastic disc that is placed directly on the surface of the contents under the lid after filling. It limits contact between the contents and air and the lid, helps keep the inner rim clean with softer creams, and during transport reduces the risk of the contents smearing against the closure.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume for which the jar is intended under normal filling. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is larger. The difference between them is the allowance for the inner liner and lid, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The jar should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Otherwise the contents will be forced onto the thread when closing, will soil the closure, and the lid will not seal.

Balms and salves that are poured hot and then set should be poured so that after setting there is space below the neck for the liner. Place the liner only on fully set and cooled contents; otherwise it will stick and leave an imprint.

Suitable for products such as

  • Balms and salves – anhydrous products based on oils, butters, and waxes. The wide neck makes it easy to scoop out firmer textures.
  • Eye and face creams – emulsions in a small volume that will be used up before repeated opening causes significant deterioration.
  • Solid perfumes and fragrance balms – a wax base in glass, which does not absorb fragrance.
  • Cream deodorants and scrubs – thick products that cannot be conveniently dispensed from a bottle.
  • Samples and travel sizes – a small volume of larger products for testing or as an addition to an order.

Good to know

Clear glass does not protect the contents from light. Products containing essential oils, vegetable oils prone to oxidation, or light-sensitive active ingredients should therefore be stored away from direct light, or a dark container should be chosen for them. The clear jar is best suited to stable anhydrous bases and to products where the appearance of the contents is part of the presentation.

Before first filling, wash and disinfect both the jar and the lid with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. The inner liner only needs to be rinsed and disinfected in the same way. Fill only into a dry container after the disinfectant has evaporated.

Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes. Do not pour hot material into a jar that has been chilled in a cold storage room, and do not move a full jar from a warm to a cold environment all at once. Allow the container and its contents to equalise temperature gradually.

The set is intended for cosmetics. Neither the jar, the lid, nor the liner has food-contact certification, so do not use them for packaging food, spices, or herbal blends for consumption.

The jar can be reused. After washing and disinfecting, glass does not retain the scent or colour of the previous contents. When reusing, check the foam seal of the lid to make sure it has not been compressed or damaged – this is what provides the airtight closure. For the label, use the cylindrical wall of the jar or the surface of the lid.

Closures with the same neck type and other ready-made container-and-closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal and the behaviour of the container with the specific formulation. The empty jar goes in the glass recycling, the lid with liner in plastics – separate them before disposing.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 25 ml glass jar suitable for a cream with a water phase?
Yes, the 25 ml glass jar is also suitable for emulsions and creams with a water phase. However, a water-based product in a wide-neck jar comes into contact with air and fingers each time it is opened, so it must be properly preserved and should be scooped out with a clean spatula. The small volume is an advantage here – the product will be used up sooner.
Does the clear glass jar protect the contents from light?
No, clear glass does not block light. Contents sensitive to light – for example balms with essential oils or with oils prone to oxidation – should be stored in the dark or in a box. If the product is to stand on a shelf in the light for an extended period, choose amber or another dark glass. The clear jar is most suitable where you want the contents to be visible.
What is the inner liner in the set for and does it have to be used?
The inner liner is a plastic disc that is placed on the surface of the contents under the lid, and its use is optional. It limits contact between the contents and air and the closure, keeps the rim clean with soft creams, and protects the surface during transport. With solid balms you can leave it out; with creams and salves we recommend using it.
Can hot balm be poured into the glass jar?
Yes, melted balms and salves are routinely poured hot into the glass jar, but thermal shock must be avoided. Allow the jar to warm to room temperature before filling, pour the material to the nominal volume, and leave it to set uncovered. Fit the lid and liner only once the contents have cooled completely; otherwise condensation will form on their underside.
How is the glass jar with lid cleaned before reuse?
Wash the jar, lid, and liner with warm water and washing-up liquid, disinfect with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol, and leave to dry completely. Glass does not retain the scent of the previous contents, but check the foam seal of the lid to make sure it has not become saturated with oil or damaged. A damaged seal means a leaking closure and it is better to replace the lid.
