Product description

The 15 ml frosted glass roll-on bottle is used for applying oil-based perfumes, aromatherapy blends and light oil serums directly onto the skin. The set consists of a glass bottle with an 18/410 neck, a holder with a steel roller ball and a black plastic cap. After filling, simply press the ball holder into the neck, screw on the cap and the product is ready for sale or for your own use.

The frosted surface of the glass dampens direct light and the contents only show through the wall, which suits blends with essential oils better than clear glass. The small volume matches the amount that is used up within a few weeks when applied to specific spots such as the wrists, temples or the eye area, so oils do not sit for too long in a half-empty bottle. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics; you will find the declaration of conformity with the product.

What the roll-on bottle is suited for

  • Oil-based perfumes – the ball applies a thin layer exactly where the fragrance is meant to last, without spraying it into the surroundings.
  • Aromatherapy blends – essential oils diluted in a carrier oil for the temples, nape or wrists. The roll-on is also a common format for travel blends.
  • Oil serum for the eye area – a small amount is spread without your fingers touching the contents, and the steel ball feels cooling on the skin.
  • Oil for lips and cuticles – free-flowing oils and low-viscosity oleogels are applied directly where they are needed.

How the set works

After filling, the ball holder is pressed into the bottle neck, where it is held by its shape alone, without any glue. The ball rotates on contact with the skin and delivers a thin film of the contents. The cap screws onto the bottle thread, covers the whole ball and prevents drying out and leaking when carried in a handbag.

Liquids with low to medium viscosity are suitable for a roll-on, that is vegetable oils, fragrance oils and light oil serums. Thick balms and butters will not move the ball, while very thin water-based solutions may seep around the ball. Test the behaviour of your particular formulation on one filled piece before filling a larger batch.

Nominal and brimful volume

The nominal volume of 15 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume up to the rim of the neck and can be found in the parameters. The difference between the two values leaves room for the ball holder, which takes up part of the space once pressed into the neck, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the rim.

After filling, first press the ball holder evenly into the neck until it sits fully around the whole circumference, then screw on the cap. Turn the bottle upside down and leave it for a moment. If nothing seeps around the ball, the formulation and the fit of the holder are fine.

Filling and reuse

Before the first filling, the bottle, the ball holder and the cap are washed, disinfected with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and left to dry completely. Fill the bottle only once the contents have cooled down. A hot filling can damage the glass through thermal shock and the ball holder may not sit properly in the neck.

The holder and the cap are made of polypropylene, which withstands common vegetable and fragrance oils. With undiluted essential oils, a high proportion of alcohol or solvents, check whether the holder changes shape or colour over time, as it is in permanent contact with the contents.

Once empty, the ball holder can be pried out of the neck and the set can be reused after washing and disinfection. When reusing, check that the holder fits tightly in the neck and that the ball rotates freely. The glass bottle is sorted as glass, the cap as plastic after separation.

The set is not approved for contact with food. It is used exclusively for cosmetic products, not for food oils, syrups or infusions.

Closures with the same neck type, given in the parameters, and other ready-made combinations of a bottle with a closure can be found in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your particular formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the frosted glass of the roll-on bottle protect the contents from light?
The frosted glass of the roll-on bottle protects the contents from light only partially. The matte surface scatters direct light and the contents only show through the wall, but it is still translucent glass, not dark glass. Keep blends with essential oils or sensitive active ingredients out of direct sunlight even in this bottle, and choose amber or blue glass for longer storage.
What formulations can be dispensed with a roll-on ball?
Liquid oils, fragrance oils and light oil serums with low to medium viscosity are dispensed best with a roll-on ball. Thick balms and butters will not move the ball, and very thin water-based solutions may seep around it. The suitability of a particular recipe is easy to check: turn the filled bottle with the cap on upside down and watch whether anything leaks.
How do you insert the ball into a roll-on bottle?
The ball is inserted into the roll-on bottle only after filling. The ball holder is placed on the neck and pressed in with even pressure until it sits fully around the whole circumference. Then the cap is screwed on. With a hot filling or a damp neck, the holder may not sit tightly, so fill the bottle with cooled contents and leave it to dry completely after disinfection.
Can the roll-on bottle be reused?
The frosted glass roll-on bottle can be reused. Once empty, the ball holder is pried out of the neck, all parts are washed, disinfected with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and left to dry. Before the next filling, check that the holder fits tightly in the neck after pressing and that the ball rotates freely. If the holder is deformed after removal, replace it with a new one.
Is the frosted glass roll-on bottle suitable for food?
The frosted glass roll-on bottle is not approved for contact with food. The set is therefore not used for food oils, syrups or herbal infusions. The bottle, the ball holder and the cap are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and the declaration of conformity is with the product.
