Product description
A 30 ml frosted glass roll-on bottle with a push-in metal roller ball and a black plastic cap. A complete set for perfume oils, diluted essential oil blends and liquid serums that are applied directly to the skin with a rolling motion. There is nothing else to buy separately: the bottle, roller ball and cap fit together on the 18/410 neck finish.
Frosted glass softens direct light, so the oils and fragrance compositions inside are not exposed to full daylight. The fill level still remains visible through the wall. Glass does not react with essential oils or alcohol-based solutions, which is why it is widely used for perfume and aromatherapy roll-ons.
How the set works
- 30 ml glass bottle – the body of the packaging, made of frosted glass with an 18/410 neck, into which the roller ball is pressed after filling.
- Metal roller ball – a steel ball in a plastic housing. The housing fits onto the neck, and the ball rolls as it moves across the skin, applying a thin layer of the contents without tilting the bottle over an open neck.
- Black cap – a PP plastic closure that screws onto the thread over the fitted roller ball and protects it from dirt and from leaking in a bag.
Dispensing is economical. A single pass of the roller ball over the skin applies a small amount, which suits concentrated perfume oils and blends measured in drops.
What the 30 ml roll-on is suitable for
It can be used for anything with a liquid, oily or alcohol-based consistency that is applied locally. The most common uses include:
- Perfume oils – a fragrance composition diluted in jojoba oil, fractionated coconut oil or another liquid oil, applied to the wrists, neck or behind the ears.
- Aromatherapy blends – essential oils diluted in a carrier oil for the temples, the nape of the neck or the feet. With essential oils, follow standard cosmetic dilution rates.
- Oil serums for the eye area – the cool touch of the metal roller ball feels pleasant when applied around the eyes, and the serum goes on without using your fingers.
- Oil products for lips and nails – cuticle oils or liquid lip oils, where you want precise application to a small area.
- Alcohol-based perfumes – classic perfumes based on ethanol dispense through a roll-on just as well as oils.
Thick gels, creams or products containing solid particles dispense poorly through the roller ball and can block it. For more viscous formulations, we recommend filling one bottle as a test and checking whether the ball rolls evenly during application.
Filling and capacity
The nominal capacity of 30 ml is the volume the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The brimful capacity, given in the specifications, is larger because it also includes the space in the neck up to the top edge. This difference is a reserve for the roller ball housing that is pressed into the neck and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes.
Fill to the nominal capacity, not to the brim. If the bottle is filled right up to the neck, the contents are forced out when you press in the roller ball and the housing does not seat properly. It is easy to fill with a small funnel, a syringe or a dropper. With oils, simply measure the volume and leave it for a moment to let the air bubbles settle.
After filling, place the roller ball housing on the neck and press evenly with your palm until it clicks into place. Then check that the ball turns freely and screw on the cap. Before giving the bottle away or selling it, turn it upside down and leave it lying for a few hours to verify that it seals with your specific formulation.
Good to know
Before the first filling, wash the bottle, roller ball and cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Do not fill the bottle with oil if the inside is even slightly damp.
The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and the declaration of conformity is available with the product. It is not intended for food use.
The glass withstands washing in warm water as well as disinfection with alcohol. However, avoid sudden thermal shocks, such as hot contents in a cold bottle. The plastic roller ball housing and the PP cap are resistant to common cosmetic oils. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils, ethanol or other solvents, we recommend test-filling one piece and checking after a few weeks that the plastic has not softened and still seals.
All three parts can be reused. Prise the roller ball out of the neck with a thin blunt tool, and with oily contents, degrease it with alcohol before refilling. A roll-on used for a longer time with essential oils partly retains the fragrance in the plastic, so it is better to use a new roller ball for a new composition.
The bottle has an 18/410 neck finish; you will find closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and dispensing with your specific formulation.
A roll-on with a roller ball is not an airtight closure. Oils prone to oxidation, for example those with a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, come into contact with the air around the ball each time they are used. With such formulations, expect a shorter period of use after opening, or add an antioxidant.
The glass goes in separate glass collection, and the plastic cap and roller ball housing go in with plastics. Before recycling, it is advisable to remove the steel ball from the plastic housing.
