Product description

Clear glass medicine bottle, rounded, roll-on, 12 ml

Roll-on set for perfume oils, aromatherapy blends and liquid serums that are applied to specific spots, straight from the packaging. The contents are rolled onto the skin with a roller ball, so nothing drips or spills. The set is supplied complete: a rounded glass bottle with a nominal volume of 12 ml, a metal roller ball in a plastic ring and a black plastic cap.

Clear glass shows the colour of the contents, which you will appreciate with coloured perfume oils or tinted blends. At the same time, it does not protect the contents from light, so sensitive blends with essential oils should be stored out of direct sunlight. The whole set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics, and you will find the declaration of conformity with the product.

What a roll-on is suitable for

  • Perfume oils – a fragrance composition diluted in a carrier oil, for example jojoba oil or fractionated coconut oil, is applied to the wrists or neck without touching it with your fingers.
  • Aromatherapy blends – essential oils diluted in a carrier oil for the temples, the nape of the neck or the wrists. The small volume suits blends that are mixed fresh and in smaller quantities.
  • Oil serums for specific areas – oil for the cuticles around the nails, the lip contours or small areas of skin where precise application is useful.
  • Alcohol-based roll-on perfumes – the bottle is made of glass, so it also withstands perfumes with an alcohol base. We recommend testing how the plastic parts of the roller ball behave with a high alcohol content on a single bottle first.

How the roll-on works

After the bottle is filled, the roller ball is pressed into the neck: a plastic ring with a metal ball. As it moves over the skin, the ball turns and applies a thin layer of the contents. After use, the cap is tightened onto the thread, which prevents the contents from drying out and from leaking when you carry the bottle in a bag.

A roll-on needs liquid contents. Carrier oils, alcohol solutions and light fluid serums pass through the roller ball without problems. A thick gel, butter or an emulsion with higher viscosity will not get through the ball or will clog it.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume of 12 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The total brimful volume is larger and you will find it in the parameters. The difference is a reserve for the ring with the ball, which reaches into the neck once it is fitted. Fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents will run out around the neck when the ball is pressed in.

The rounded shape of the medicine bottle and its narrow neck call for filling with a dropper or a small funnel. For perfumes, it has proved best to mix the blend in a beaker first and pour only the finished blend into the bottle.

Fit the ball only after filling and press it in evenly until it snaps into place. A ring that is fitted crookedly does not seal, and the contents leak when the bottle is turned upside down.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle, the ball and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely, so that no water remains in oil-based contents.
  • Reuse – the ring with the ball can be pried out of the neck with a flat object, washed and fitted again. When changing the fragrance, we recommend a new ball, because both the ring and the ball retain residues of the previous contents.
  • Glass and heat – do not fill the bottle with a hot blend, as a sudden temperature difference can damage the glass. Let the contents cool to room temperature.
  • Plastic parts and undiluted essential oils – the ring and the cap are made of polypropylene, which normally withstands diluted blends. Undiluted essential oils or solvents in a high proportion can put long-term strain on the plastic, so such contents should be tested beforehand.
  • Replacement closures – closures with the same neck finish as stated in the parameters, and ready-made combinations, are available in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.
  • Recycling – after use, the glass is sorted separately, and the plastic ring with the steel ball and the cap are separated from the bottle.

Frequently asked questions

What contents are suitable for a 12 ml roll-on bottle?
Liquid blends belong in a roll-on: perfume oils in a carrier oil, aromatherapy dilutions of essential oils, alcohol-based perfumes and light oil serums. The contents must flow freely around the ball. Thick gels, butters and creams clog the ball and cannot get out of the bottle. If the viscosity is borderline, test-fill a single bottle first.
Does a clear glass bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear glass lets light through. Store blends with essential oils and sensitive carrier oils in the dark or in packaging that protects them from light, for example in a box. The advantage of clear glass is that you can see the colour and the amount of contents remaining.
How many ml should be filled into a roll-on bottle with a nominal volume of 12 ml?
Fill approximately 12 ml, that is, up to the nominal volume. The total brimful volume is larger, but this reserve is taken up by the ring with the ball pressed into the neck. An overfilled bottle overflows around the neck when the ball is fitted.
Can a glass roll-on be refilled and reused?
Yes, the whole set is designed for reuse. The ring with the ball is pried out of the neck, the bottle, the ball and the cap are washed, disinfected with alcohol and left to dry. When changing the fragrance, a new ball is recommended, because the ring retains residues of the old contents and the fragrances would mix.
Is the roll-on bottle suitable for alcohol-based perfume?
The glass bottle withstands alcohol without problems. The ring with the ball and the cap are made of polypropylene, so we recommend testing how the plastic parts behave with a high alcohol content on a single bottle before a larger production run. The set is declared for contact with cosmetics and is not intended for food.
