Product description

The set consists of a clear PET bottle with a 24/410 neck finish and a clear ribbed cap with a pressure-sensitive seal. The clear plastic shows the contents and their colour, so you can see at a glance how much product is left in the bottle. The 100 ml volume is enough for toners, micellar waters, shower gels, liquid soaps, hair lotions, massage and body oils, or for trial batches of new formulations. PET is light and does not break when dropped, so the set works well in the bathroom, when travelling and for customer samples.

The bottle and the cap are both declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The set is intended for cosmetics.

What it is suitable for

  • Liquid rinse-off products – shower gels, shampoos and liquid soaps pour well from the bottle, and the clear wall shows when it needs refilling.
  • Water-based products – toners, micellar waters and hydrosols that do not need protection from light or are stored in a cupboard.
  • Oils and oil blends – massage, body or hair oils in a volume that is used up before the oil starts to age.
  • Samples and travel packs – a small bottle for a customer to try or for a bag.
  • Trial batches – when fine-tuning a formulation, you can see whether the contents turn cloudy, separate or change colour.

Closure and dispensing

The cap is a solid screw cap with no dispensing opening. Inside it has an EPE pressure-sensitive seal, which is pressed onto the neck when the cap is tightened and prevents leaking if the bottle is knocked over or transported. The ribbed edge can be gripped with a wet hand, which you will appreciate in the shower. The contents are dispensed by pouring or dripping from the neck. The set is therefore better suited to products that are poured into the palm than to creams and thicker emulsions.

The 24/410 neck finish is a common type. You can find closures with the same neck finish and ready-made bottle and closure combinations in the Handymade range.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful volume given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the top of the neck. The difference between them provides a reserve for the cap thread and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. The bottle is therefore filled up to the nominal volume. If the contents reach above the neck, they are pushed onto the thread when the bottle is closed and the cap does not seal.

Before the first filling, wash and disinfect the bottle and the cap and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in the packaging is a common cause of early spoilage of an otherwise well-preserved product.

Good to know

Clear PET does not protect the contents from light. Store products with sensitive ingredients, such as some vegetable oils, vitamin C or natural dyes, in a cupboard or choose dark packaging for them. Water-based products in this bottle need a preservative, just as in any other packaging.

PET is not suitable for hot filling. Let emulsions and gels cool before filling, and do not expose the bottle to heat or direct sunlight. Undiluted essential oils, solvents and aggressive chemicals can damage or cloud the plastic. For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils or with alcohol, test compatibility on a single piece over several weeks before filling the whole batch.

The bottle is not intended for the freezer or the microwave. At temperatures outside the normal household range, it may deform or stop sealing.

After thorough washing and disinfection, you can reuse the bottle and the cap, especially for the same type of product. The seal inside the cap may soften over time and after contact with oils, so when reusing it, check that the cap still seals. The bottle is made of PET and the cap of PP. Once empty, both parts belong in plastic waste.

Frequently asked questions

Is the clear 100 ml plastic bottle suitable for oils?
Yes, the bottle is commonly used for massage, body and hair oils. Oils pour well from the neck and the cap with a pressure-sensitive seal prevents leaking. However, clear plastic does not protect the contents from light, so store oils prone to yellowing in the dark or add an antioxidant. For an oil with a high proportion of essential oils, check that the plastic does not turn cloudy.
Can hot contents be filled into the clear 100 ml PET bottle?
No, PET is filled cold. A hot emulsion or gel can deform the bottle, and when the contents cool, a vacuum forms inside and pulls the walls inwards. Let the product cool to room temperature before filling, and only then pour or dispense it into the bottle.
How much fits into a plastic bottle with a nominal volume of 100 ml?
The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume of 100 ml. The physical volume up to the neck is slightly larger, and you can find the exact value in the product parameters. The difference serves as a reserve for the thread and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature, so the bottle should not be filled to the brim.
How do you prepare the clear plastic bottle and cap before first use?
Wash both parts in warm water with washing-up liquid, rinse them thoroughly and disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Then leave them to air dry with the opening facing down on a clean surface. Fill only once the disinfectant has completely evaporated, so that no alcohol residues get into the product.
Can I use a different closure than the supplied cap on the 24/410 plastic bottle?
Yes, the neck has a standard 24/410 thread, which fits closures with the same neck finish from the Handymade range. With your own combination, always check that the closure seals and that the product dispenses well through it. The viscosity of the contents is the main factor in deciding which type of closure works best.
Does the clear plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear PET lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. It is therefore suitable for products that are not degraded by light, or for products stored in a cupboard or in a bag. For serums with vitamin C or retinol, or for oils sensitive to oxidation, choose dark packaging instead.
