Product description

Black dropper 50 mm with 18/410 thread replaces a standard cap on bottles with the same neck finish wherever the contents are dispensed drop by drop – with facial serums, oil blends, tinctures or active ingredient concentrates. The customer takes exactly as much as needed, and the rest stays in the bottle with minimal exposure to air and fingers.

The dropper consists of three parts: a glass tube that is submerged in the contents, a silicone bulb for drawing up the liquid, and a threaded plastic cap. The black finish of the cap and bulb is neutral and pairs well with amber, blue and frosted glass alike, with no need to match the label colour.

Key benefits

  • Drop-by-drop dispensing – the contents are drawn up by squeezing the bulb and released one drop at a time, which is practical for concentrated serums and oils used in small quantities.
  • Glass tube – glass does not absorb scent or colour from the contents and is compatible with oils, alcohol-based extracts and common cosmetic ingredients, making it suitable for blends containing essential oils.
  • Silicone bulb – silicone is flexible and retains its shape after repeated squeezing; compatibility with a specific formulation should be verified.
  • 18/410 thread – the standard neck finish for small serum and oil bottles.
  • Length 50 mm – suited to smaller-volume bottles; the tube should reach just above the bottom so the contents can be drawn up even at a low level.

How to use the dropper

The dropper is screwed onto the bottle neck in place of the cap. Before first use, we recommend rinsing the glass tube and bulb, disinfecting with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol, and allowing them to dry completely to prevent moisture or manufacturing residues from entering the contents.

When filling the bottle, bear in mind that the tube will displace some of the contents upward. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The nominal volume is the fill level for which the container is designed under standard conditions; the total capacity up to the neck is always slightly greater, and this headspace is intended precisely for the dropper and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Filling to the brim would cause the contents to overflow around the neck when screwing on the dropper, contaminating the thread.

Before ordering a larger quantity, verify that the dropper length matches the height of the chosen bottle. A tube that is too short will not reach the bottom and the contents cannot be fully used; one that is too long will press against the bottom and prevent the cap from seating properly.

Ready-made bottle and dropper combinations as well as other caps with an 18/410 neck finish are available in the Handymade range. When assembling your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing behaviour and compatibility of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Suitable for products such as

  • facial serums and concentrates on both water and oil bases, where a few drops are dispensed at a time,
  • oil blends and facial oils, including blends containing essential oils,
  • tinctures and alcohol-based extracts for cosmetic use, added drop by drop,
  • fragrance composition and essential oil samples for testing in small quantities,
  • active ingredients in production, when fractions of a percent are dosed into a formula.

The dropper is not suitable for thick creams, balms or gels with higher viscosity – the contents cannot be drawn into the tube and dispensing will not work.

Good to know

  • Contact with cosmetics – the dropper is suitable for use with cosmetic products and meets the applicable regulatory requirements; a declaration of conformity is available with the product.
  • Silicone and essential oils – for formulations with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, it is advisable to test the dropper over several weeks in the actual contents. Monitor whether the bulb softens, changes colour or swells.
  • Transparent tube – the glass shows how much liquid has been drawn up, making accurate dosing easier. When dispensing, hold the dropper vertically; otherwise the drop size will vary.
  • Reuse – the dropper can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection. When changing the contents (for example, switching from a fragrance composition to a facial serum), it is safer to use a new dropper, as scent residues are difficult to remove from the bulb.
  • Leak-tightness during shipping – before sending by post, verify that the cap does not leak under pressure changes, and wrap the bottle in a bag.
  • Recycling – this is a composite container made of glass, silicone and PP; when disposing of it, separate the glass tube from the plastic part.

The glass tube is fragile. When screwing on the dropper, do not force the tube against the bottom of the bottle, and after a drop onto a hard surface check that the tip is not cracked – glass fragments could enter the contents.

Frequently asked questions

Which bottles are compatible with the 18/410 thread dropper?
The 18/410 thread dropper fits all bottles with the same neck finish designation, regardless of material or glass colour. In addition to the thread, the dropper length matters – 50 mm is intended for smaller bottles where the glass tube should reach just above the bottom. The bottle height can be found in the specifications of the individual container.
Is the dropper suitable for oils containing essential oils?
Yes, the glass tube is compatible with essential oils and most common oil blends. The more sensitive component is the silicone bulb, which may soften with prolonged exposure to a high concentration of essential oils or solvents. For concentrated blends, we recommend testing the dropper over several weeks in the actual contents first.
Can the dropper be used to dispense a cream or gel?
No, the dropper is designed for liquid contents that can be drawn into the tube. Creams, balms and thicker gels cannot be drawn into the glass tube and dispensing will not work. For such products, a dispensing pump, jar or bottle with a standard cap is more appropriate.
How to clean the dropper before reuse?
Clean the dropper by rinsing both the tube and the bulb several times with warm water and a mild cleanser, then with alcohol, and allow them to dry completely. It is important to draw and expel the cleaning liquid through the bulb several times, as residues linger there longest. If the previous contents had a strong scent, it is safer to use a new dropper.
Does the black dropper protect the contents from light?
No, the dropper itself does not protect the contents from light – the glass tube is transparent and most of the contents are inside the bottle. Light protection is provided by the bottle material, which is why amber or blue glass is recommended for serums and oils that are sensitive to light. The black colour of the cap and bulb is a visual choice that can be combined with any glass colour.
