Product description

The glass roll-on bottle with a roller ball, 10 ml, is used to apply liquid preparations directly to the skin, without dripping and without touching them with your fingers. The set consists of a clear glass bottle, a steel roller ball in a plastic seat, and a black cap with an 18/410 neck finish. Through the clear glass you can see both the colour and the remaining amount of the contents. The volume suits fragrance oils, aromatherapy blends diluted in a carrier oil, lip oils or light oil-based eye serums. The whole set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics; it is not intended for food.

What it is suitable for

  • Fragrance oils – the ball spreads a small amount onto the wrist or neck, the fragrance is dosed precisely and nothing spills onto the skin or the table.
  • Aromatherapy blends – essential oils diluted in a carrier oil, applied to the temples, nape of the neck or wrists. The roll-on is a well-established format for such blends.
  • Oil for lips and the skin around the nails – the ball applies a thin layer without you having to scoop the oil up with a finger.
  • Oil-based eye serums – the cooling touch of the steel ball suits gentle tapping around the eyes, provided the formulation is fluid enough.
  • Samples and travel packs – the small volume and the closed ball withstand being carried in a bag, and the cap covers the ball.

How to use a roll-on

Fill the bottle with the prepared formulation, press the insert with the ball firmly onto the neck and tighten the cap. Before first use, roll the roll-on over the skin several times until the ball is wetted by the contents and begins to apply evenly.

The viscosity of the contents is decisive. Carrier oils such as jojoba, almond or fractionated coconut oil, fragrance oils and light oil-based serums flow smoothly around the ball. Thick balms, butters or gels that do not flow at room temperature are not picked up by the ball and the insert becomes blocked. Very thin, water-based contents, on the other hand, may escape around the ball when the bottle is turned upside down. Therefore, test the seal with your finished formulation on a single piece before you fill the whole batch.

Fill up to the nominal volume of 10 ml, not up to the neck. When fitted, the insert pushes part of the contents upwards, and the preparation needs room to expand when the temperature changes.

The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for with normal filling. The total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck, and the difference between them is a reserve for the insert with the ball and for contents that expand in the warmth. If the bottle is filled to the brim, part of the preparation will overflow as soon as the insert is fitted.

Good to know

Clear glass does not protect the contents from light. Store blends with essential oils, fragrance compositions and oils sensitive to oxidation in the dark, or choose a roll-on made of dark glass.

Before the first filling, take the packaging apart, wash the bottle and the insert, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water under the ball does not belong in oil-based contents.

The ball seat and the cap are made of polypropylene (PP), the ball is made of steel. For blends diluted in a carrier oil, such a roll-on is a commonly used format. For undiluted essential oils, contents with a high proportion of citrus oils or alcohol-based formulations, we recommend checking the behaviour of the plastic and the tightness of the seal with your specific formulation.

For repeated use, carefully release the insert from the neck, then wash and disinfect the set. If the ball does not turn smoothly after cleaning or the insert does not sit firmly on the neck, it is better to replace it than to risk leakage.

The bottle has an 18/410 neck finish; you can find further closures for this neck and ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and dispensing with your formulation.

For recycling, the glass bottle belongs with glass; separate the plastic insert with the steel ball and the cap from it before disposal.

Frequently asked questions

Does the clear 10 ml roll-on bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear glass lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. It is suitable for preparations that are not sensitive to light, or for smaller amounts that are used up quickly. Store blends with essential oils and oils prone to oxidation in a closed cabinet, or choose a roll-on made of dark glass.
How much product fits into a roll-on bottle with a nominal volume of 10 ml?
The fill is 10 ml, even though the physical brimful volume of the bottle is larger. The difference is a reserve for the insert with the ball, which pushes the liquid level upwards when fitted, and for the expansion of the contents in the warmth. If you fill the bottle to the brim, part of the contents will overflow as soon as the insert is fitted.
What preparations are suitable for a glass roll-on bottle?
Liquid oil-based preparations work best: fragrance oils, essential oils diluted in a carrier oil, oils for lips and the skin around the nails, or light oil-based serums. The contents must flow freely at room temperature so that the ball can pick them up. A roll-on cannot transfer thick balms and butters onto the skin, and the insert becomes blocked.
Is the roll-on bottle also suitable for water-based or alcohol-based preparations?
It can be used, but check the seal beforehand. Very thin water-based contents may leak around the ball when the bottle is turned upside down, and with alcohol-based formulations it is recommended to test the behaviour of the plastic insert as well. Fill one piece, leave it lying cap-down for a few days and check whether it leaks.
Can the glass roll-on bottle be reused?
Yes, after washing and disinfecting with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol, the glass bottle can be filled again. Carefully release the insert with the ball from the neck, wash it and dry it thoroughly. If the ball sticks after cleaning or the insert does not sit firmly on the neck, replace it with a new one.
