Clear glass lets you see the colour and clarity of the contents. This is useful for products where appearance is part of the impression, and for checking whether the contents change over time.

Glass does not absorb scent and is suitable for concentrated blends containing essential oils, alcohol, or carrier oils. The packaging is suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

Clear glass and content protection

Clear glass transmits light. For products containing light-sensitive ingredients — such as carrier oils with a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, essential oils, or certain vitamins — light can accelerate oxidation and cause changes in colour or scent.

Store light-sensitive products in a clear vial away from direct sunlight, ideally in a box or a closed cabinet. If the product will be exposed to light for extended periods, coloured glass is a better choice.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the amount the vial is designed to hold under normal filling conditions. Total volume to the brim is the physical capacity up to the neck and is always greater. The difference between the two provides headspace for a closure or dropper insert, which occupies part of the interior once fitted, and allows for expansion of the contents when temperature changes.

Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. When a dropper is fitted, the contents will not overflow and no product residue will remain on the neck to compromise the seal.

Choosing a closure

The vial is supplied without a closure. Closures with the same neck finish as specified in the product parameters, as well as ready-made container-and-closure combinations, are available in the Handymade range. For a custom combination, we recommend verifying leak-tightness, dispensing performance, and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation, particularly with thin oils and alcohol-based solutions.

Good to know

Hot filling – glass tolerates sudden temperature changes poorly. Do not pour hot contents into a cold vial; pre-warm the container or allow the contents to cool slightly first.
