Product description
This glass bottle with a roll-on applicator and a capacity of 15 ml is used to apply liquid preparations directly to the skin. The metal ball in the neck leaves a thin layer of the contents with every pass, so it is mainly filled with oil-based perfumes, diluted blends of essential oils, face and eye oils or cuticle oil. The set includes the bottle, the roller ball in a plastic holder and a black cap, so once filled it is ready to use straight away.
Clear glass shows the colour and level of the contents, so with fragrance or oil samples you can see at once what is in the bottle and how much is left. It does not protect the contents from light. The small capacity and screw-on cap make the bottle a handy pack for a handbag or for travelling.
How a roll-on bottle works
The bottle is filled with the liquid, the holder with the roller ball is pressed into the neck and the cap is screwed on. When you apply it, the ball rotates and transfers a thin film of the preparation to the skin. It dispenses sparingly and precisely, and your fingers never touch the contents, which you will appreciate with oils for the eye area or with fragrance blends for the wrists and temples.
The ball only rolls in thin liquids. Thick creams, balms, preparations containing wax or solid particles will block it and the contents will stop flowing. A roll-on therefore suits oils, oil-based perfumes and other low-viscosity liquids. With a thicker oil, application is slower but it still works.
Insert the ball only after filling and press it in evenly so that it sits properly around the whole rim of the neck. A holder pressed in at an angle seals less well and the contents may leak out from under the cap.
What it is suitable for
- Oil-based perfumes and fragrance blends – application to the wrists, neck or behind the ears without spraying, and each pass dispenses roughly the same amount.
- Diluted blends of essential oils – essential oils in a carrier oil for spot application, the usual form of aromatherapy roll-ons.
- Eye and face oils – the cool ball glides over the skin, which suits spot application around the eyes or on small blemishes.
- Lip and cuticle oil – a small amount exactly where it is needed, without messy fingers.
- Samples and testers – a capacity of 15 ml is enough to try a fragrance or a new oil before making a larger pack.
Capacity and filling
The nominal capacity is the volume the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The brimful capacity is the physical volume up to the neck, and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between them is a reserve for the holder with the roller ball, which takes up part of the neck once pressed in, and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. Fill up to the nominal capacity, not to the brim. A bottle filled right up to the neck will overflow when the ball is inserted.
Dispense the contents into the bottle using a funnel or from a bottle with a dropper. The neck is narrow and the contents are easily spilled when poured directly from a larger container.
Good to know
Before the first filling, wash the bottle, the cap and the holder with the roller ball, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in the neck would mix with the oil-based contents.
The set can be used repeatedly. The holder with the roller ball is removed from the neck by prising it up at the edge, all the parts are washed and they are put back together once dry. When changing the contents, bear in mind that the scent of the previous perfume can linger longer in the plastic parts than in the glass.
Store oils that oxidise easily and fragrance blends sensitive to light in a clear bottle away from direct sunlight, or use them up within a few weeks. For undiluted essential oils or perfumes with a high proportion of alcohol, we recommend checking the tightness and the behaviour of the plastic parts with your specific formulation.
The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. It is not approved for contact with food, so do not fill it with edible oils or other foods.
The bottle has a neck with the thread given in the parameters, so it can also be combined with other closures of the same type from the Handymade range, for example a dropper or a plain cap. When making your own combination, check the tightness and dispensing with your specific contents.
