Product description

This black glossy glass roll-on bottle with a roller ball is used to apply liquid preparations directly to the skin. The contents are neither poured nor dropped, but spread over the skin by the movement of the ball. For this reason, this packaging is used mainly for perfume oils, blends of essential oils in a carrier oil, oil-based eye area serums, or preparations for the temples and pulse points. The 15 ml volume is also suitable for samples and smaller batches.

The set consists of three parts: a glass medicine bottle, a metal ball in a plastic insert, and a black plastic cap with an 18/410 neck finish. The opaque black glass protects the contents from light, which you will appreciate with essential oil blends and perfume compositions. The glossy black surface with a black cap looks uniform and needs no further decoration.

What the roll-on bottle is suitable for

  • Perfume oils – the ball spreads a small amount onto the wrist or neck without spilling and without the need for a sprayer.
  • Blends of essential oils in a carrier oil – application to the temples, nape of the neck, or pulse points without the fingers touching the contents.
  • Oil-based eye area serums – the metal ball glides over the skin and the contents are dispensed in small amounts.
  • Cuticle care – the oil is applied precisely to the edge of the nail and does not run over the fingers.

A roll-on dispenses only contents that flow freely. Thick creams, gels with a thickener, or butters will not pass through the ball and will stay in the bottle.

Filling and assembly

The bottle is filled without the roller ball insert fitted. After filling, press the roller ball insert evenly into the neck until it is seated around the whole circumference, and screw the cap onto the thread. When pressed in, the insert is submerged in the contents and the liquid level rises, so the bottle must not be filled all the way to the neck.

This relates to the difference between the two volumes given in the parameters. The nominal volume is the volume the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them forms a reserve for the roller ball insert and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

After assembly, turn the bottle upside down and leave it to stand on a paper towel for a few minutes. If oil appears on the towel, the insert is not sitting straight and needs to be pressed in further or replaced.

Before the first filling, we recommend washing the packaging, rinsing it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol (IPA), and leaving it to dry completely so that no water remains in an oil-based product. The same procedure applies when reusing the bottle and filling it with a different preparation.

Good to know

The set as a whole is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and we issue an EU declaration of conformity for it. The certificate for direct contact with food applies only to the glass bottle on its own. The cap and the ball do not have it, so the assembled roll-on is intended for cosmetics.

Both the cap and the roller ball insert are made of polypropylene (PP). For undiluted essential oils, alcohol-based contents, or compositions with a higher proportion of solvents, we recommend testing the behaviour of the plastic parts with your specific formulation. The glass itself is resistant to these contents; what matters is the seal and the condition of the insert after several weeks of use.

After each use, the ball returns to the insert with a thin layer of the contents that came into contact with the skin. For leave-on preparations with a water phase, make sure the formulation is preserved and allow for a shorter period of use. For purely oil-based blends, the risk is lower.

The bottle has an 18/410 neck finish. You will find other closures with the same neck type, as well as ready-made combinations of bottle and closure, in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and dispensing with your specific contents.

For recycling, glass is sorted separately and the cap belongs with plastics. The roller ball insert combines plastic and steel and is disposed of according to local rules for mixed materials.

Frequently asked questions

Is the black 15 ml roll-on bottle suitable for perfume oil?
Yes, perfume oils and oil-based compositions with essential oils are among the most common contents of this packaging. The black glass blocks light, and the metal ball applies a small amount to the skin without dispersing it into the air as a sprayer does. For compositions with a high proportion of alcohol, we recommend checking the condition of the plastic insert after longer use.
How much can fit into a 15 ml roll-on bottle?
With normal filling, the bottle is filled with 15 ml, which is its nominal volume. The physical volume up to the neck is larger, and the exact value is given in the parameters. The difference serves as a reserve for the roller ball insert, which pushes the liquid level up when pressed into the neck, and for the expansion of the contents in warm conditions. Filling to the brim leads to overflow during assembly.
Can the roll-on bottle be refilled and reused?
Yes, all three parts can be reused. Pry the roller ball insert out of the neck, wash the bottle, rinse it with ethanol or IPA, and leave it to dry completely. We recommend cleaning the insert and the ball in the same way and, before refilling, checking that the ball turns freely in the insert and that the insert seals once pressed in.
Will a thicker serum or gel also pass through the roll-on ball?
No, the ball dispenses only low-viscosity contents. Oils, oil-based serums, perfume compositions, or thin liquids flow smoothly onto the ball. Thick gels with a thickener and creams get caught under the insert and do not reach the skin. For borderline serums, we recommend a trial filling of one bottle before a larger batch.
Is the roll-on bottle also suitable for food, for example herbal oil?
The set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. The certificate for direct contact with food applies only to the glass bottle on its own, while the plastic cap and the metal ball are declared for cosmetic products only. The assembled roll-on is therefore intended for cosmetic preparations.
