Product description

Blue glass bottle, 18 mm, 15 ml

The blue glass bottle with a volume of 15 ml and an 18/410 neck finish is designed for filling cosmetics in small amounts. Tinted glass lets through less light than clear glass, so it is particularly suitable for serums, facial and nail oils, essential oil blends, tinctures and concentrates, which change over time when exposed to light. Glass does not react with the contents and can also withstand alcohol-based or oil-based fillings, where plastic may soften or let fragrance through.

The pack contains 156 pcs, which matches the needs of a small production run, a workshop or test batches.

What it is suitable for

  • Serums and facial oils – a volume of 15 ml corresponds to a common travel or trial size and lasts several weeks with daily use.
  • Essential oil blends and fragrance oils – tinted glass slows down changes in fragrance and colour caused by light.
  • Tinctures and herbal extracts in alcohol – the glass is not sensitive to alcohol or solvents.
  • Samples and test batches – when developing a formulation, you fill exactly as much as you need for testing, without wasting raw material.
  • Oil drops and active concentrates – with a dropper, the contents are dispensed drop by drop.

Nominal and total volume

On the page you will find two volume figures, and each means something different. The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is intended for under normal filling. The brimful volume (listed in the parameters) is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the closure or dropper and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume. You will appreciate the reserve most with a dropper: once inserted, the glass tube pushes part of the contents upwards, and an overfilled bottle would overflow.

If you are filling an oil blend that will be dispensed with a dropper, leave a little more space below the neck than the nominal volume allows. The dropper tube is then inserted without overflowing and the closure seals properly.

Choosing a closure

The neck has an 18/410 finish, a widespread size for which caps, droppers and small sprayers are made. You will find closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations of bottle and closure in the Handymade range. If you are making your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and dispensing with your specific formulation, especially with thin oils and alcohol-based fillings, which leak more easily around the seal.

Good to know

Preparation before first filling. Before filling with cosmetics, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely with the neck facing down. Residual water in an oil-based filling promotes microbial growth and cloudiness.

Heat and sudden temperature changes. Glass can withstand warm filling, but not sudden thermal shock. Do not pour a hot mixture into a cold bottle and do not place a filled bottle on a freezing surface. Let emulsions and balms cool slightly before filling.

Reuse. Once empty, the bottle can be washed, disinfected and used again. When changing the filling, pay attention to fragrance residues. Essential oils cling mainly to the seal of the closure; glass does not absorb them.

Transparency. Blue glass is tinted, but it is not completely opaque. You can see the level of the contents against the light, but the colour of the filling only approximately. If you need to shield the contents from light even more, storing the bottle in a box or in a drawer helps.

Recycling. An empty bottle goes in the coloured glass recycling. A plastic closure is sorted separately.

The bottle is intended for contact with cosmetic products and is also of technical grade for laboratory or workshop use. Suitability for contact with food is not declared for this packaging, so we do not recommend it for edible oils or syrups.

Frequently asked questions

Does the blue glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, blue glass absorbs part of the light and slows down changes in light-sensitive contents, but it does not provide complete protection. It is suitable for oils, serums and essential oils, which spoil faster in light. For very sensitive ingredients, such as some vitamins or unstable extracts, we recommend storing filled bottles in the dark and with as little air space above the surface as possible.
How much fits into a glass bottle with a nominal volume of 15 ml?
Under normal filling, 15 ml is dispensed into the bottle. The brimful volume is higher and you will find it in the parameters. The difference serves as a reserve for the dropper or closure and for the expansion of the filling when the temperature changes. Filling to the brim would cause overflow when the dropper is inserted and a poorer seal of the closure.
Which closures fit a glass bottle with an 18/410 neck finish?
All closures with an 18/410 neck finish fit the bottle, that is caps, droppers and small sprayers. The neck type listed in the parameters is what matters when choosing; the volume of the bottle has no influence on it. You will find suitable closures and ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. For a custom assembly, we recommend testing the seal with your specific filling.
Is the 15 ml glass bottle suitable for essential oils and tinctures?
Yes, glass does not absorb fragrance and does not react with alcohol or concentrated essential oils, so it suits these fillings better than plastic. The blue tint dampens light, which changes essential oils and alcohol-based extracts over time. With thin alcohol-based fillings, check the seal of the closure, because they easily leak around the thread.
Can the blue glass bottle be reused?
Yes, once empty, the bottle can be washed, disinfected and filled again; glass does not wear out with repeated use. Fragrance residues from essential oils stay in the seal of the closure rather than in the glass, so when changing the filling, replace or thoroughly clean the closure as well. Before the next filling, check that the neck is not chipped.
