Product description
Roll-on bottle made of blue glass for 30 ml of oil-based perfume, an aromatherapy blend or a serum, supplied as a set with a roller ball insert with a metal ball and a black plastic cap. Blue glass filters light, so it suits fillings that are harmed by light: oil-based perfumes, blends of essential oils in a carrier oil, eye-area oil serums or cuticle oils. The ball applies the contents directly to the skin in a thin layer, without dripping and without fingers touching the filling. It dispenses in small amounts, and the contents are not needlessly contaminated during use.
How the set works
- Bottle – blue glass medicine bottle with an 18/410 neck finish. The glass is resistant to oils and alcohol and does not take on the scent of the contents, so it can be reused after washing.
- Roller ball insert – plastic insert with a steel roller ball, pressed into the neck after filling. As it moves over the skin, the ball rotates and carries the contents out. The metal ball feels cool to the touch, which is useful when applying to the temples or the eye area.
- Cap – black plastic closure with an 18/410 thread, screwed on over the insert. It protects the roller ball from dust and limits evaporation of the fragrance components.
What it is suitable for
A roll-on needs a liquid filling that reaches the surface as the ball turns. It works best with vegetable oils, oil-based perfumes and alcohol-based solutions. Water-based and alcohol-based toners also pass through the ball, while thicker oils are applied more slowly. Gels and creams are not suitable for a roll-on.
Typical fillings for the 30 ml size:
- Oil-based perfume – a fragrance composition or a blend of essential oils in a carrier oil, applied to the wrists, neck and décolletage.
- Aromatherapy roll-on – essential oils diluted in a carrier oil for spot application.
- Eye-area oil serum – a small amount is spread with the ball, without pressure from the fingers.
- Cuticle and lip oil – precise dispensing onto a small area.
The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products; you will find the declaration of conformity with the product. It is not intended for contact with food.
Filling and volume
The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The brimful capacity is the physical volume up to the neck and is given in the parameters. The difference between the two is a reserve for the roller ball insert, which is submerged in the filling when pressed into the neck, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Therefore, fill only up to the nominal volume.
Pour in the filling using a small funnel or a dropper, then press the roller ball insert in evenly around the whole circumference until it seats on the neck. If the bottle is filled to the brim, the contents will overflow when the insert is pressed in.
Once the insert is fitted, screw on the cap and briefly turn the bottle upside down to check that nothing leaks.
Good to know
Before the first filling, wash the bottle, insert and cap, rinse them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in an oil-based filling shortens its shelf life.
Pour in the filling only once it has cooled. Blends that you heated during preparation should be left to reach room temperature before filling. Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes well, and hot contents also strain the plastic insert.
The insert and cap are made of polypropylene. For fillings with a high proportion of undiluted essential oils, perfume compositions or solvents, we recommend checking how the insert behaves over time, and using essential oils in a roll-on only when diluted in a carrier oil.
Reuse: after washing and disinfection, you can use the glass bottle again. The roller ball insert can be carefully prised out by its edge, but it is difficult to clean thoroughly and traces of fragrance remain in the plastic. When changing the filling, a new insert is the better choice.
You can also fit the bottle on its own with other closures from the Handymade range that have the same neck finish. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
Before recycling, separate the glass bottle from the plastic cap and the roller ball insert; glass and plastics belong in separate waste streams.
