Product description

Glass bottle in a dropper bottle shape made of blue glass with a nominal volume of 30 ml and a 18 mm threaded neck. Blue glass reduces light transmission and is therefore best suited for contents that are sensitive to light: facial serums, oil blends with essential oils, tinctures, concentrates of active ingredients, and small volumes of toner. The narrow neck allows precise dispensing and limits contact between the contents and air each time it is opened.

The bottle is intended for cosmetic products and meets the applicable regulatory requirements for cosmetic packaging. It is also used for technical purposes, such as storing small samples, diluted essential oils, or test batches during formula development.

Key benefits

  • Light protection – blue glass reduces light exposure to the contents, which helps slow the oxidation of oils and the degradation of light-sensitive active ingredients such as vitamin C, retinol, or essential oils. It does not, however, replace proper formulation or antioxidants in the recipe.
  • Chemical resistance of glass – glass does not react with oils, alcohol-based solutions, or essential oils, which can cause swelling or cloudiness in some plastics over time. It is therefore also suitable for concentrated and alcohol-based contents.
  • Small volume for active products – 30 ml is a standard size for serums, oil elixirs, and concentrates that are dispensed drop by drop and are used up before they can deteriorate.
  • Reusability – glass can be thoroughly washed, disinfected, and used again, which is practical for small-batch home production.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume for which the packaging is designed under standard filling conditions. Total brim-full volume is the physical capacity of the bottle up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference provides headspace for the closure, dropper, or pump, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Filling all the way to the neck would cause some of the contents to be displaced when the dropper is fitted. Both values are listed in the product parameters.

Choosing a closure

Closures with the same neck type as listed in the product parameters, as well as ready-made bottle and closure combinations, are available in the Handymade range. For custom combinations, we recommend verifying tightness and dispensing performance with the specific formulation, particularly for alcohol-based and oil-based contents, which stress different seals in different ways.

If you are fitting the bottle with a dropper, leave sufficient headspace when filling. The glass tube of the dropper displaces some of the contents, and with a full bottle, the liquid will reach the threads, where it impairs the seal and causes the closure to stick.

What is good to know before first use

Before filling for the first time, wash and disinfect the bottle — for example with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol — and allow it to dry completely upside down. Residual water in an oil-based product or anhydrous serum reduces stability and may promote microbial growth.

Glass withstands normal filling temperatures, but is not suitable for sudden temperature changes. Allow a hot emulsion to cool to at least lukewarm temperature before filling, and never fill a cold bottle with hot contents.

When labelling, keep in mind that the dropper bottle has a cylindrical body with a relatively short side wall. Label dimensions are listed in the product parameters. A narrow wrap-around label or a small sticker applies easily at this size.

Once washed, glass is fully recyclable and belongs in coloured glass collection.

Blue glass reduces light transmission but does not block it entirely. Store bottles with light-sensitive contents away from direct sunlight and in a cooler environment.

Suitable for products such as

  • Facial serums and oil elixirs with active ingredients sensitive to light.
  • Essential oil blends and aromatherapy dropper preparations that would degrade plastic over time.
  • Tinctures and alcohol-based extracts, where the chemical resistance of glass is an advantage.
  • Samples and test batches during formula development, when a smaller volume with the same behaviour as the final packaging is needed.
  • Small volumes of toner or facial mist, if a suitable sprayer is added to the 18 mm neck.

Frequently asked questions

Does a blue glass dropper bottle protect the contents from light?
Partially — blue glass reduces some of the light reaching the contents, but does not block it entirely. For standard serums, oils, and tinctures, a blue bottle is a suitable choice provided it is stored away from direct sunlight. For highly sensitive ingredients, the formulation itself — including antioxidants and cooler storage — is just as important as the colour of the glass.
How much does a 30 ml glass dropper bottle actually hold?
The bottle is designed to hold 30 ml of contents, which is its nominal volume. The physical brim-full volume is slightly larger, and this difference provides headspace for a dropper, pump, or closure and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the neck. Exact values for both volumes are listed in the product parameters.
Can a 30 ml glass dropper bottle be reused?
Yes, glass can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection. Wash the bottle with warm soapy water, rinse, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allow to dry completely. After previous oil-based or alcohol-based contents, check the closure and dropper, as seals wear more quickly than the glass itself.
Is a 30 ml glass dropper bottle suitable for essential oils and tinctures?
Yes, glass is suitable for essential oils and alcohol-based tinctures because it does not react with them and does not cloud the way some plastics can. Blue glass also reduces light exposure, which accelerates the oxidation of essential oils. With concentrated contents, verify the seal of the chosen closure as well, not just the bottle itself.
Which closure fits a glass dropper bottle with an 18 mm neck?
This bottle takes closures with the same neck type as listed in the product parameters — droppers, caps, pumps, or sprayers for an 18 mm neck. Compatible closures and ready-made bottle-and-closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. The right choice depends on the contents: a dropper is practical for serums and oils, a sprayer for toners.
Can I fill a glass dropper bottle with a hot emulsion or cream?
No — do not fill a glass dropper bottle with a hot emulsion, as glass cannot withstand sudden temperature changes and may crack. Allow the emulsion to cool to at least lukewarm temperature before filling. For liquid serums, oils, and toners, the bottle can be used without restriction. Thick creams are difficult to fill and dispense through the narrow 18 mm neck; a jar is more suitable for those.
