Product description
A glass vial made of clear glass with a volume of 100 ml is a container for liquid and mildly viscous preparations where the contents should be visible. Clear glass reveals colour, clarity, and the remaining amount. It is therefore suitable for facial waters, tonics, hydrolats, body and massage oils, bath additives, or alcohol-based extracts. Glass is inert towards its contents: it does not absorb fragrance and does not discolour.
The container is suitable for direct contact with food, making it useful for homemade syrups, infused oils, or vinegars. It is equally suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The declaration of conformity is available on the product page.
When to use a clear glass vial
- Visible contents – the colour and clarity of the product are part of its appearance, which is appreciated especially by makers of two-phase preparations, herb macerates, or coloured bath oils.
- Resistance to ingredients – glass does not react with essential oils, alcohol, or vegetable oils, so the formula composition is not as limiting as with some plastics.
- Narrow threaded neck – allows fitting a cap, dropper, pump, or spray depending on how the product is to be dispensed.
- Reusability – glass can be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, so the vial can be refilled.
Clear glass does not provide protection from light. Contents sensitive to light — such as oils with a higher proportion of unsaturated fatty acids or preparations containing vitamins — are better suited to dark glass. Alternatively, the filled vial can be stored in a box or cabinet.
Nominal and total volume
Nominal volume is the amount the vial is intended to hold under normal filling conditions. Total volume to the brim is the physical capacity up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference provides clearance for the closure, pump tube, or dropper, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes.
Fill the vial to the nominal volume, not to the brim. With closures that include a tube or dropper, the liquid level rises once they are inserted, and an overfilled vial will overflow.
Closure and dispensing
Closures with the same neck type (specified in the parameters) as well as ready-made vial-and-closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. When assembling your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing behaviour, and compatibility of the container with the specific formulation. A thicker oil behaves differently through a spray than an aqueous tonic, and not every closure is suitable for a high content of alcohol or essential oils.
What to know before filling
- Preparation – before the first fill, wash the vial, rinse it, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allow it to dry completely. Residual water inside the container reduces the stability of both oil-based and anhydrous products.
- Labelling – the dimensions needed for label design are listed in the product parameters. Labels adhere best to clean, dry, degreased glass.
- Recycling – glass is recyclable and once empty should be placed in sorted glass waste.
Glass is susceptible to sudden temperature changes. Do not pour hot contents into a cold vial, and do not rinse a warm vial with cold water — it may crack.
