Product description
The white glossy dropper is a closure with drop-by-drop dispensing for glass bottles with an 18/415 neck. It is suitable wherever the contents are applied in small, precise amounts: facial serums, oil blends, tinctures, active concentrates or diluted essential oils.
The base is a glass tube, a plastic threaded ring and a silicone bulb. Glass does not absorb fragrances or dyes and does not react with oils or alcohol-based extracts. The dropper can therefore be used even for blends that would gradually stain or soften ordinary plastic over time.
How a dropper works
- Drop-by-drop dispensing – squeezing the bulb draws in part of the contents; releasing it dispenses drop by drop. The drop size depends on the viscosity and surface tension of the contents.
- Hygienic application – the contents are not poured out or touched with fingers; during normal use, less air and contaminants enter the bottle.
- Glass in contact with the contents – only the glass tube is in permanent contact with the product; the threaded ring does not touch the contents when filled correctly.
- One-piece closure – the dropper screws directly onto the bottle neck and replaces the cap; no separate insert is needed.
Choosing a bottle
The dropper fits bottles with an 18/415 neck, the standard thread of small glass bottles for serums, oils and tinctures. The white glossy ring pairs well with clear, amber and frosted glass. However, the length of the glass tube also matters: it should reach almost to the bottom so the remaining contents can be drawn up, but must not press against the bottom, as this risks cracking the glass when tightening. The tube length is listed in the product parameters and should be compared with the bottle height from neck to bottom. Ready-made bottle-and-dropper combinations and other closures with the same neck type are available from Handymade. For custom combinations, we recommend checking the seal and closure behaviour with your specific formulation.
The bottle should be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The total brim-fill volume is larger, and the headspace above the nominal volume is reserved for the glass tube, which displaces some of the contents upwards when screwed in. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents will overflow through the thread.
Suitable for products such as
- Facial serums and concentrates – water-based or oil-based, where a few drops are applied to clean skin.
- Oil blends for the face, beard and cuticles – the dropper helps dispense small amounts without greasy bottle edges.
- Tinctures and alcohol-based extracts – glass and silicone tolerate alcohol-based contents without any change in scent or appearance.
- Diluted essential oils and fragrance blends – for example for diffusers or for adding to a formula drop by drop.
- Samples and test batches – small volumes where precise dispensing is worthwhile.
The dropper is not suitable for thick products such as creams, high-viscosity gels or balms. The contents cannot be drawn into the narrow tube; a jar or pot is more appropriate for these.
Good to know
Before first use, we recommend washing the dropper, rinsing it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leaving it to dry completely. The bulb can be removed and cleaned separately. Any moisture in the joint between the bulb and the tube could otherwise enter the contents.
The dropper is designed for repeated use. When changing the contents – especially after fragrant blends – it is worth washing the tube and bulb thoroughly; silicone may briefly retain part of an intense scent. With undiluted essential oils and solvents, we recommend testing the silicone bulb's behaviour on one bottle before using it across an entire batch.
The glass tube is fragile. When tightening, gentle pressure is sufficient – the dropper seals on the thread and more force will not improve the seal. If the bottle is dropped, the tube may snap off; for travel packaging, a bottle with a cap is therefore preferred.
The dropper is not intended for long-term storage of the bottle upside down or for transport on its side. The contents may enter the bulb and overflow with temperature fluctuations.
The packaging is suitable for use with cosmetic products; a declaration of conformity is available with the product. This is a composite closure made of glass, plastic and silicone; before disposal, it is advisable to separate the individual parts where possible.
