Product description

The white-gold dropper with a glass tube is a cap with drop-by-drop dispensing for bottles with an 18/410 neck. It is suitable wherever the contents are dosed precisely and in small amounts – into facial serums, oils for the face and nail cuticles, oil concentrates with active substances, tinctures or blends of essential oils in a carrier oil. The gold sleeve with a white head pairs well with a white or gold label and with clear, amber or frosted glass.

The dropper is suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The declaration of conformity with the regulation on packaging and packaging waste is provided with the product.

What the dropper is made of

It is a composite cap made of several materials, with each part serving a different purpose:

  • Glass tube – reaches into the bottle and draws up and dispenses the contents through it. Glass does not react with oils or essential oils and does not affect the scent of the contents.
  • Silicone head – the white squeeze part used to draw up the contents and then release them drop by drop.
  • Aluminium sleeve – the gold outer casing that gives the cap sturdiness and appearance.
  • Inner PP thread – ensures screwing onto the bottle neck and sealing.

The length of the dropper is measured from the lower edge of the thread to the end of the glass tube. The dropper is chosen for the bottle according to it – the correct tube reaches just above the bottom, so that the remaining contents can also be drawn up, yet does not touch the bottom and is not at risk of cracking when tightened.

Which bottles and contents it suits

The dropper fits all bottles with an 18/410 type neck – the neck type is stated in the parameters of each bottle in the Handymade range. Ready-made bottle + dropper combinations have their own description. For a custom combination we recommend checking the seal and tube length with the specific bottle.

In terms of contents, the dropper is intended primarily for liquid and mildly viscous preparations:

  • Facial and hair serums on a water or oil base – drop-by-drop dispensing lets you apply exactly the amount the skin needs.
  • Plant and cosmetic oils in small packages, nail cuticle oils, beard oils.
  • Blends of essential oils in a carrier oil, aromatherapy preparations for the skin, perfume oils.
  • Tinctures and alcohol extracts, where a few drops are dispensed.

Thick serums with a high proportion of gel-forming substances or emulsions are drawn up through the tube with difficulty and the drops form unevenly. For such textures a pump or a bottle with a screw cap is more suitable.

The size of the drop depends on the viscosity and surface tension of the contents. Oil forms different drops than a water-based serum, so when stating the dosage on the label (e.g. "3 – 4 drops") we recommend counting the drops with your own formulation rather than adopting a universal figure.

Filling and volume reserve

Bottles are filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The difference between the nominal and the total volume of the bottle is a reserve for the tube, which pushes out some of the air once screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents overflow through the neck when the dropper is fitted and soil the thread, which impairs the seal.

On first use we recommend taking the dropper apart into the tube and the head with sleeve, washing it, disinfecting it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and letting it dry completely. Otherwise residual water in the tube would get into an anhydrous oil or serum.

The contents should not be drawn all the way up into the silicone head. Residues of the preparation in the head are hard to rinse out, with oils they may oxidise over time, and with water-based serums they are a place where, without preservation, microflora can multiply.

What is good to know

  • Essential oils and concentrates – the glass tube is resistant to them. The silicone head and plastic parts, however, may soften or lose elasticity with prolonged contact with undiluted essential oils or with solvents. With such contents we recommend testing the behaviour of the dropper on a single package before filling a whole series.
  • Reuse – the dropper can be used again after washing and disinfection. Before refilling it is worth checking whether the silicone head holds its shape and whether the tube has no chipped edge.
  • Tightening – the dropper is tightened by hand, without tools. Excessive force may damage the PP thread or push the tube against the bottom of the bottle.
  • Labelling – the gold sleeve with the white head works as a ready-made design element; the label is placed only on the body of the bottle.
  • Waste sorting – the dropper is made of glass, aluminium, silicone and plastic, so before sorting it is recommended to take it apart and put the individual parts out according to material.

Frequently asked questions

Which bottle does a dropper with an 18/410 thread suit?
An 18/410 dropper fits any bottle with a neck of the same type, regardless of the material and colour of the glass. The 18/410 designation gives the neck diameter and thread type, not the bottle volume. Besides the thread you also need to take into account the length of the glass tube – this version is intended for lower bottles; with taller ones the tube would not reach the contents at the bottom.
How do I find out whether the 44 mm dropper length is right for my bottle?
Once screwed in, the glass tube should reach a few millimetres above the bottom of the bottle. The simplest way is to fit the dropper onto an empty bottle and see where the tube ends. If it touches the bottom, it is at risk of cracking and you need a shorter dropper. If it ends high up, the last part of the contents cannot be drawn up.
Is a dropper with a glass tube suitable for essential oils?
Yes, the glass tube is suitable for essential oils, because glass does not react with them and does not take on their scent. Caution is warranted with the silicone head and the plastic thread, which can soften with permanent contact with an undiluted essential oil. With blends of essential oils in a carrier oil, which are common in cosmetics, this risk is significantly lower.
Can the dropper be washed and used repeatedly?
Yes, the dropper can be taken apart, washed and used again. It is advisable to rinse the tube and head with warm water and a mild cleaning agent, disinfect them with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and let them dry completely. Oil residues in the head are harder to remove, which is why the contents should not be drawn all the way up into it.
Why does oil leak from the dropper or bubbles form when it is squeezed?
The most common cause is an overfilled bottle or a soiled thread through which the dropper does not seal. The bottle should be filled to the nominal volume so that the tube has a reserve, and the thread should be dry and clean before screwing in. Bubbles when squeezing arise when there is air in the head from the previous squeeze – squeeze the head only after immersing the tube in the contents.
