Product description
Dropper white-silver matte, 53 mm
This is a dropper for dispensing liquid cosmetic preparations drop by drop – a closure that turns an ordinary bottle into a practical container for serums, facial oils, tinctures and concentrates. It is suitable wherever a preparation is applied in small quantities and where precise dispensing without spilling and without finger contact with the contents matters.
The dropper consists of a cap with an aluminium shell in a matte silver finish, a white plastic inner part with thread, a silicone bulb and a glass tube through which the preparation is drawn up and dispensed. The combination of white and matte silver looks neutral and lets the product label stand out.
What the dropper is suitable for
- Serums and concentrates – water-based and oil-based serums with active ingredients, applied a few drops at a time to the skin. The dropper dispenses small amounts and does not unnecessarily expose the contents to air.
- Facial and hair oils – oil blends that would pour uncontrollably from an open neck.
- Tinctures, infusions and herbal extracts – preparations dispensed drop by drop into water or into a finished product.
- Samples and test batches – during formulation development, the dropper allows precise withdrawal of a small amount for testing without opening the entire bottle.
Use with a bottle
The dropper has an 18/410 thread and fits bottles with the same neck type. When choosing a bottle, the length of the glass tube is also important – it should reach almost to the bottom so the preparation can be drawn up even when the bottle is nearly empty. A tube that is too long rests on the bottom and the cap cannot be tightened; one that is too short leaves an unusable residue at the bottom. Bottles with the same neck type and ready-made bottle and dropper combinations are available from Handymade. For your own combination, we recommend verifying the tube length, seal and behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation.
Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. When inserted, the glass tube displaces some of the volume, and without a margin the contents would overflow through the neck or remain in the thread, where they later stick and spoil the appearance of the packaging.
The packaging is suitable for use with cosmetic products; the declaration of conformity can be found with the product.
Good to know
- Preparation before first filling – we recommend disassembling the dropper, washing the glass tube and plastic parts, disinfecting with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leaving to dry completely. The silicone bulb only needs to be wiped on the outside; during normal use, the preparation should not enter the inside.
- Cleanliness during dispensing – the tube should not touch the skin or other surfaces; the preparation is dispensed from above. Otherwise contaminants return to the bottle and the preservation requirements for water-based preparations increase.
- Water-based preparations – the dropper is not an airless system like a pump. Water-based serums and tonics used with it must have a reliable preservative, because air enters the bottle with every opening and a small amount of preparation remains on the tube.
- Oil-based preparations – oils dispense well with the dropper, but thicker blends (for example those with a higher proportion of castor oil or with waxes) are drawn up more slowly by the bulb and the drop is larger. With thick blends it is advisable to test dispensing in advance.
- Essential oils, alcohol and solvents – the glass tube is resistant to them. However, the plastic and silicone parts may soften or change colour with prolonged contact with concentrated essential oils or high alcohol content. With such contents, we recommend checking compatibility on a single bottle before filling a larger quantity.
- Reuse – the dropper can be used again after washing and disinfection. The silicone bulb loses elasticity over time, so when refilling check that it draws up properly when squeezed and that the tube is not cracked or chipped.
- Recycling – this is a composite packaging made of glass, plastic, silicone and aluminium. At the end of its life, separate the individual parts where possible and sort them by material.
The glass tube is fragile. When tightening the cap onto the bottle, insert it straight and without pressure against the bottom. If the bottle falls on a hard surface, the tube may break and glass fragments will contaminate the contents.
