Product description

A glass jar 5 ml with a white plastic lid is a compact set for samples, testers and travel-size cosmetics. It suits thicker preparations applied with a finger or spatula – eye creams, balms, ointments, body butters, solid perfumes or concentrated serums in cream form. Clear glass reveals the colour and texture of the contents, which is appreciated when presenting samples to customers or testing your own formulations. The set consists of the jar and lid and is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What the jar is suitable for

  • Samples and testers – a small volume is sufficient to try out a preparation, so the set is often used for order samples or for testing a new formulation before larger-scale production.
  • Eye area creams and balms – a small amount of a more expensive preparation is not exposed to repeated opening in large packaging.
  • Solid perfumes and ointments – the jar is filled with a melted mass that solidifies inside it.
  • Travel-size packaging – the set is compact and securely closed, taking up minimal space in a cosmetic bag.

Glass and lid together

The base is a jar made of clear glass, which does not react with common cosmetic ingredients – it tolerates oils, butters, waxes, essential oils and preparations containing alcohol. The lid is made of ABS plastic with an inner sealing insert of expanded polyethylene (EPE). The insert seats onto the neck of the jar and prevents the contents from drying out and the scent from escaping. The lid does not need to be tightened forcefully – the insert seals with just a light turn.

The white colour of the lid looks neutral and suits both a label on the top surface and one on the circumference of the jar. Label dimensions can be found in the product parameters.

Nominal and total volume

The jar is filled to the nominal volume, i.e. the quantity for which the packaging is intended. The total volume to the brim is larger – this is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference provides headspace so that the contents do not touch the sealing insert when closing and have room for slight expansion in heat. If filled right to the brim, the cream would be pushed onto the thread and the lid would not seat properly.

Pour melted balms and solid perfumes into a jar tempered to room temperature and allow them to solidify with the lid open. Cold glass does not withstand sudden temperature changes, and closing a warm content will cause condensation on the inside of the lid.

What is good to know

  • Preparation before filling – wash both the jar and lid before first use, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. This also applies to repeated use.
  • Light – clear glass does not protect the contents from light. Store light-sensitive preparations in the jar in the dark or choose opaque packaging.
  • Plastic lid and essential oils – ABS is resistant to common cosmetic ingredients. With highly concentrated essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking the insert after a few days of contact.
  • Finger application – every opening introduces microorganisms into the contents. Without preservation, fill the jar only with anhydrous formulations.
  • Recycling – the glass and plastic lid are separated and sorted individually before disposal.

The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics; it is not approved for contact with food. Do not use it for spices, honey or other food products.

Lids and combinations

The lid in the set matches the neck type of the jar. Other lids with the same neck type and ready-made packaging + lid combinations are available in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal and container behaviour with a specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 5 ml glass jar suitable for a cream with a water phase?
Yes, both the glass and lid with sealing insert are suitable for emulsions and creams. However, preservation is necessary for water-based formulations, as the contents are applied with a finger and every opening introduces microorganisms. The insert in the lid limits drying out, but does not stop microbial growth in an unpreserved cream.
Does the clear glass jar protect the contents from light?
No, clear glass transmits light and does not protect the contents from it. For light-sensitive preparations, such as those containing vitamin C, retinol or unrefined oils, amber glass is more suitable, or storing the jar in a box or drawer. For samples consumed within a few weeks, clear glass is usually sufficient.
How much does the 5 ml jar actually hold?
The jar is filled to the nominal volume of 5 ml; the total volume to the brim is somewhat larger. The difference is headspace, so that the contents do not reach the sealing insert of the lid when closing and are not pushed onto the thread. The exact values for both volumes are listed in the product parameters.
Can the glass jar with plastic lid be reused?
Yes, both the jar and lid can be reused. Before refilling, wash both parts thoroughly, disinfect and allow to dry. Check the sealing insert in the lid to ensure it is not deformed or saturated with the scent of the previous contents, especially after essential oils.
Is the 5 ml jar suitable for solid perfume and balms filled hot?
Yes, the glass tolerates filling with melted wax-based mass. The jar should be tempered to room temperature before pouring – a sudden temperature difference between cold glass and hot mass can damage the glass. Attach the lid only after the contents have fully solidified and cooled; otherwise moisture condenses on its inner surface.
Can food or honey be sold in this set?
No, the set is not approved for contact with food. Both the jar and lid are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics; neither component holds a food-grade certificate. The set is suitable for balms, creams, ointments and solid perfumes; for food use, choose packaging with the appropriate certification.
