Product description

A 10 ml glass roll-on in amber glass with a black cap is a complete container for applying a small amount of liquid preparation directly to the skin. Amber glass protects the contents from light, making it especially suitable for perfume oils, essential oil blends in a carrier oil, and targeted serums whose ingredients change rapidly when exposed to light. The metal ball spreads the contents in a thin layer without fingers touching the preparation. The nominal volume of 10 ml corresponds to preparations that are dosed in drops and carried in a handbag or pocket.

The set consists of an amber glass bottle, a steel ball with an insert, and a black plastic cap. All three components are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

Why glass and a metal ball

  • Light protection – amber glass transmits significantly less light than clear glass. This slows down oxidation and loss of fragrance in preparations containing essential oils, vitamins, or vegetable oils prone to yellowing.
  • Glass resistance to contents – glass does not react with essential oils, alcohol, or vegetable oils, does not soften, deform, or absorb fragrance. For concentrated fragrance preparations, this is a significant difference compared to standard plastic packaging.
  • Metal ball – the steel ball feels cool to the touch, which is useful, for example, in roll-ons applied to the temples or the under-eye area. Rolling applies the contents evenly and in a thin layer, so the preparation is not overdosed.
  • Hygienic dosing – the contents come out only when the ball moves, the preparation does not spill, and fingers do not come into contact with the contents inside the container.

What the roll-on is suitable for

The roll-on is intended for liquid preparations with low viscosity that the ball can pick up and spread evenly. In practice, these are mainly:

  • perfume oils and natural perfumes in an oil base, applied to the wrists, neck, and behind the ears;
  • aromatherapy blends of essential oils diluted in a carrier oil, for example for the temples or the décolleté area;
  • targeted serums and oil blends for minor skin blemishes, the under-eye area, or the nail cuticle;
  • oil lip preparations and light facial oils in travel-size packaging;
  • alcohol-based roll-ons with plant extracts, provided the contents are clear and sufficiently liquid.

Thick emulsions, gels, and creams do not belong in a roll-on. The ball cannot pick them up, the preparation gets stuck in the neck, and dosing is uneven. When formulating at the viscosity limit, we recommend testing the filled container before preparing a larger batch.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume for which the container is intended at standard filling. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them is a reserve for the ball insert, which, when pressed into the neck, takes up some space and pushes the level upwards, and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The container should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Exact values for both volumes are listed in the specifications.

Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, press the ball insert evenly into the neck until it firmly clicks into place, and only then screw on the cap. If the contents are filled too high, pressing in the insert will cause some of the preparation to be pushed out through the neck.

What is good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – we recommend washing the bottle, ball insert, and cap, disinfecting them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and leaving them to dry completely. Residual water in an oil-based preparation shortens its stability.
  • Aqueous and hydroalcoholic preparations – aqueous solutions can also be filled into the roll-on, but any preparation containing water requires a preservation system. The ball is in contact with the skin during use and transfers a microbial load into the container with each application.
  • Reuse – the glass bottle can be refilled after thorough washing and disinfection. It is worth replacing the ball insert if the ball turns with difficulty or its seat has been damaged.
  • Glass and heat – do not expose the glass bottle to sudden temperature changes, such as filling hot contents into cold glass. Allow the preparation to cool before filling.
  • Labelling – the cylindrical body of the bottle allows a label to be applied around its circumference. The bottle dimensions are listed in the container specifications.
  • Closures and combinations – the ball insert and cap are part of the set and match the neck type of the bottle. Additional closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range. When using your own combination, we recommend verifying the tightness and behaviour of the container with the specific formulation.
  • Recycling – once empty, place the glass bottle in glass waste, the cap goes in plastic waste. Set the insert with the steel ball aside separately; it does not belong in glass waste.

The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. It is not approved for direct contact with food, so it is not suitable for household oils, syrups, or other food contents.

Frequently asked questions

Is a glass roll-on suitable for essential oils?
Yes, a glass roll-on is suitable for essential oils, as glass does not react with them and does not absorb their fragrance. Essential oils are filled into roll-ons diluted in a carrier oil, not undiluted, and the amber glass also slows their oxidation in light. The plastic parts of the set are in minimal contact with the contents, but for concentrated blends we recommend verifying the tightness of the cap.
How much liquid fits in a 10 ml roll-on?
A 10 ml roll-on is filled with 10 ml of preparation, which is its nominal volume. The physical volume to the brim is larger, but this difference is a reserve for the ball insert and for expansion of the contents. If the bottle is filled right up to the neck, pressing in the insert will cause the excess to be pushed out.
Can the roll-on be filled with an aqueous toner or hydrolat?
Yes, a glass roll-on can also be filled with an aqueous preparation, provided it is sufficiently liquid. However, any contents containing water must be preserved, as the ball touches the skin during application and introduces microorganisms into the container. An unpreserved hydrolat in a roll-on will deteriorate quickly.
How is the roll-on correctly filled and closed?
The roll-on is filled through the open neck to the nominal volume, the ball insert is then pressed into the neck, and finally the cap is screwed on. The insert must seat evenly all the way around, otherwise the container will not be airtight. A dropper or a needleless syringe works well for filling the small neck.
Can the 10 ml glass roll-on be reused?
Yes, the glass bottle of the roll-on can be refilled after thorough washing and disinfection. Glass does not absorb the fragrance of the previous contents, so it can be used for a different preparation. Check the ball insert before refilling: if the ball turns with difficulty or the seat is damaged, replace it with a new one, otherwise dosing will be uneven.
Why is the roll-on made of amber glass and not clear glass?
Amber glass protects the contents from light, which accelerates oxidation of oils and breakdown of fragrance components. With perfume oils, essential oils, and vitamin-containing preparations, amber glass extends the period during which the preparation retains its original fragrance and properties. Clear glass shows the colour of the contents, but does not provide this protection.
