Product description
The amber glass roll-on 10 ml is designed for filling with perfume oils, essential oil blends in a carrier oil and other liquid preparations applied directly to the skin. The roller ball spreads the contents over the wrist, temples or neck without dripping and without fingers touching the filling. Amber glass limits exposure to light, which helps protect oils and fragrance components from faster deterioration. The small volume corresponds to a typical portion of roll-on perfume or aromatherapy blend, which is used up before the filling starts to lose its scent.
The set includes a glass bottle, a plastic roller ball and a black plastic screw cap. All three parts are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The set is not intended for food.
What it is suitable for
- Roll-on perfumes – perfume compositions diluted in a carrier oil or in alcohol, where the roller ball ensures precise application to pulse points.
- Aromatherapy blends – essential oils diluted in jojoba, almond or fractionated coconut oil, for example blends for sleep, concentration or temple massage.
- Oil serums for nails and cuticles – the small volume and spot application with the roller ball are an advantage here.
- Spot application – oil-based or water-based preparations for small areas of skin, where it pays to apply sparingly.
- Samples and travel size – the bottle fits in a handbag, and the glass can be washed and refilled once used up.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed to hold when filled normally. The total brimful volume given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them leaves room for the roller ball, which takes up part of the space in the neck once inserted, and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Therefore, fill the bottle up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it is overfilled, the filling is pushed out when the roller ball is pressed in.
How to work with the roll-on
The procedure is the same as for any roll-on. First pour in the filling, then press the roller ball firmly into the neck and finally screw on the cap. The roller ball is inserted only after filling, otherwise the bottle is difficult to fill. A dropper or a small funnel is suitable for filling the small neck, and for liquid oils slow pouring from a beaker is enough.
Before the first filling, wash the bottle, the roller ball and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in an oil-based filling shortens its shelf life and may cause cloudiness.
The roller ball turns when pressed against the skin and carries a thin layer of the filling with it. This works with liquid and low-viscosity preparations: oils, alcohol solutions, light gels. Thick creams or balms cannot be transferred by the roller ball, the contents would simply jam in the neck. With higher-viscosity oils, such as castor oil, we recommend testing whether the roller ball dispenses smoothly.
The roller ball and the cap are made of polypropylene. They work without problems with common carrier oils and diluted essential oils. For fillings with a high proportion of undiluted essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking after some time that the plastic has not softened and the neck still seals.
Good to know
Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes. Pour the filling into the bottle once it has cooled, not hot straight from the water bath. When refilling repeatedly, wash the roller ball separately, because residues of the previous filling under it will affect the scent of the new blend. Tighten the cap by hand, as overtightening will damage the plastic thread.
The filling is in contact with air every time it is used. With sensitive oils, such as rosehip or borage oil, it is worth adding an antioxidant and preparing a smaller batch that will be used up within a few months.
The bottle belongs with glass, the roller ball and cap with plastics. Separate the plastic parts from the glass before disposal.
