Product description

Imwitor 375 is a plant-based, non-ionic emulsifier and co-emulsifier based on glycerin esters with organic acids and fatty acids, in particular citric, lactic, linoleic and oleic acid. It is produced by esterification, i.e. by reacting glycerin with selected acids and lipid components, resulting in a functional raw material suitable for creating and stabilizing cosmetic emulsions.
In cosmetic formulations it is used mainly where the aim is to prepare mild oil-in-water emulsions, light creams, body milks, fluids or emulsion serums with a pleasant, less greasy sensory profile. Thanks to the combination of lipophilic and hydrophilic structures it helps to link the oil and water phase and improves the dispersion of the oil component in the formulation.
It is suitable for manufacturers who are looking for a modern emulsifying system without PEG components and want to work with formulations that feel light, spread well and do not leave a heavy film on the skin.

Key benefits

  • Emulsifier and co-emulsifier for oil-in-water emulsions.
  • Helps to create light, mild and well spreadable emulsions.
  • Suitable for formulations with a more natural character and for systems without PEG emulsifiers.
  • Supports the stability of the emulsion and a more uniform dispersion of the oil phase.
  • Contributes to a pleasant skin feel without a distinctly greasy or waxy afterfeel.
  • Can be used in facial, body and hair care cosmetics.
  • Also suitable as part of a more complex emulsifying system for demanding formulations.

Suitable for products such as

  • light facial creams and moisturizing emulsions,
  • body milks and body fluids,
  • emulsion serums and active cosmetic concentrates,
  • creams for combination and oilier skin where a lighter feel is desired,
  • regenerating and barrier emulsions with an oil phase,
  • hair emulsions, creamy conditioning products and leave-in care,
  • mild emulsion cleansing products,
  • cosmetics with plant oils, esters, squalane or light emollients.

Use in formulation

  • Imwitor 375 is used mainly as an emulsifier or co-emulsifier in oil-in-water emulsions.
  • It is miscible with the oil phase and suitable for combination with plant oils, light esters, squalane, triglycerides and other lipophilic components.
  • It is not fully soluble in water; in the formulation it acts as a surface-active lipid component at the interface between the oil and water phase.
  • It is compatible with common thickeners of the water phase, for example xanthan gum, cellulose derivatives or natural polymers, which can help to increase the stability of the emulsion.
  • When used on its own it may be more suitable for lighter emulsions; with a higher proportion of the oil phase or a more demanding texture it is recommended to combine it with a suitable co-emulsifier, stabilizer or structure-forming component.
  • The recommended dosage usually lies roughly in the range of 2 – 5%, depending on the product type, the proportion of the oil phase and the desired stability.
  • When manufacturing the emulsion it is important to ensure sufficient homogenization and to carry out subsequent stability testing of the finished formula.
  • It is recommended to monitor the final pH of the formulation and the compatibility with the preservation system, active ingredients and electrolytes.

Safety and storage

  • Store the raw material in a well-closed container, in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.
  • After each use close the container carefully in order to minimize contact with air and moisture.
  • Use clean tools during handling and follow hygienic practices of cosmetic manufacturing.
  • Before the finished product is put into use it is recommended to carry out tests of stability, packaging compatibility and microbiological safety.
  • For formulations intended for sensitive skin we recommend verifying the tolerance of the finished product with an appropriate application test.

FAQ

Is Imwitor 375 suitable for beginners as well?

Yes, but it gives the best results in formulas where the ratio of oil phase, water phase, thickener and preservation system is well thought out. For the first attempts it is advisable to start with a simple emulsion and a smaller number of active ingredients.

Can Imwitor 375 be combined with natural gums?

Yes, in practice it is often combined with water-phase thickeners, because these help to improve the viscosity, stability and resistance of the emulsion against phase separation.

Is Imwitor 375 suitable for very rich creams?

It can be used in rich creams, but it is usually advisable to supplement it with structure-forming components, for example fatty alcohols, waxes, butters or another compatible co-emulsifier.

Does Imwitor 375 influence the final feel on the skin?

Yes, it can contribute to a smoother slip, easier spreading and a more elegant feel after application. However, the final sensory profile also depends on the oils, esters, thickeners used and the overall composition of the formula.

Is it necessary to adjust the preservation of the product when using Imwitor 375?

The preservation system is always chosen according to the entire composition of the product, the water content, the pH and the type of packaging. Imwitor 375 by itself does not replace a preservative in products with a water phase.

Can Imwitor 375 also be used in an emulsion make-up remover product?

Yes, it can be part of emulsion cleansing milks or creamy cleansing products, especially if the aim is a milder lipid character and more comfortable rinsing off or wiping off from the skin.
