Spray hair conditioner

Back29. 03. 2022 Tutorials

To improve the vitality of the hair, shampoo alone is not enough. Make a spray hair conditioner according to our instructions.

A convenient solution to rid your hair of frizz, while nourishing it at the same time, is to use a spray conditioner. This is a leave-in conditioner, or a non-rinse conditioner that you leave on your hair after spraying. The spray conditioner contains a powerful cationic surfactant that serves to suppress frizz.

SPRAY CONDITIONER - INGREDIENTS

You don't need a lot of ingredients to make a spray conditioner. This is because it is a simple emulsion with a low oil content to avoid unnecessarily weighing down the hair with excessive grease. The liquid consistency allows easy application in the form of a spray.

SPRAY HAIR CONDITIONER - PROCEDURE

1. disinfect all containers and utensils you will use, e.g. by spraying with ethanol.
2. weigh water and glycerine into one heat-resistant container, mix well.
3. weigh the oil and Emulsense HC into a second heat-resistant container.
4. cover both containers with foil and place in a water bath until the temperature of the raw materials reaches 60 °C.
5. when 60 °C is reached, quickly pour the aqueous phase into the oil phase (to avoid changing the temperature of the individual mixtures) and start mixing immediately with an immersion stick mixer.
6.during cooling, stir the mixture repeatedly every few minutes with the mixer.
7.once cooled to room temperature, check the pH of the product using pH paper, if the pH is less than 4.5, add L-arginine in small amounts until a pH between 4.5 and 5.5 is reached.
8.once the pH has been adjusted, add keratin, essential oil and preservative, mix well and fill into a spray bottle.

SPRAY HAIR CONDITIONER - TIPS AND TRICKS FOR MAKING

On the following lines you will find some tips and tricks that will make it easier to make spray conditioner or help you avoid instability of the emulsion.

It is important to heat the water and oil phases to the same temperature correctly. If one phase is at a different temperature when mixed with the other, the emulsion may not combine properly and then separate back into the two phases.

Always pour the water phase into the oil phase and mix immediately with an immersion stick blender. Do not use a milk frother, as instead of a liquid emulsion for the spray, you will get a foam which will not be suitable for the spray. Stir the mixture periodically during cooling to keep the emulsion combined.

Add the Phase C raw materials only after cooling and pH adjustment, otherwise they may be inactivated by the high temperature. always increase the pH by adding L-arginine, neither sodium hydroxide nor baking soda work in conjunction with Emulsense HC.

It is advisable to shake the conditioner before use. Storage in places exposed to direct sunlight or temperature fluctuations may disturb the stability of the emulsion.

SPRAY HAIR CONDITIONER - IMPORTANCE OF INGREDIENTS

For the preparation of spray conditioner, it is good to know the importance of the different ingredients. This will allow you not only to vary them correctly, but also to change their proportions so that you can prepare a tailor-made spray conditioner.

DEMINERALISED WATER

Demineralised water is the basis for the production of cosmetic products. Do not use ordinary water or boiled or filtered water, which does not have the required properties for the preparation of cosmetic products.products, especially as it contains minerals and other substances that could alter the pH or cause instability of cosmetics.

However, what can replace distilled or demineralised water in a product are hydrolates obtained by steam distillation of various herbs. Hydrolates contain valuable volatile substances for the hair, but they also have a pleasant smell, so you can replace the perfuming of the product with them.

GLYCERINE

Glycerine is an effective moisturizer that you will find in most cosmetic products. It helps to keep hair moisturised, which is especially appreciated by dry hair. It is a water-soluble raw material, so always add it to the aqueous phase.

EMULSENSE HC

Emulsense HC is a cationic tenside that is directly designed for hair care. It is distinguished from other tensides (whether anionic, uncharged or amphoteric) by its positive charge and its inability to foam or degrease. It is thus more reminiscent of emulsifiers. However, thanks to its positive charge, it perfectly mitigates the negative charge of the hair that causes frizz.

Emulsense HC is a tenside in the form of white flakes/flakes that are soluble in oils when heated. This is also why it is always added to the oil phase, and due to its emulsifying abilities, it will allow to form an emulsion with water.

If you want your spray conditioner to be more effective, increase the proportion of Emulsense HC. However, do not increase its content above 2%, as then the conditioner will be too heavy on the hair, and may leave it greasy and sticky to the touch. At the same time, a high proportion of Emulsense HC in the product will cause thickening and the conditioner will not be fluid enough to use in a spray.

JOJOB OIL

The oil providing your hair with excellent care is jojoba oil. It is a luxurious all-purpose oil that is not too oily and so does not unnecessarily weigh down the skin or hair. Jojoba oil is rich in vitamins and minerals, so it nourishes your hair and prevents frizz.

If you have dry hair and are looking for more intense hydration and care, you can increase the proportion of jojoba oil in the product. However, too high an oil content can cause weighing down and greasing of the hair. Of course, you can substitute any other liquid vegetable oil for the jojoba oil in the product.

KERATIN

Keratin is a protein naturally occurring in animal tissues such as our hair or nails. Weakened hair may be deficient in keratin, so adding this substance to the product will allow the hair to be nourished quickly.

If you don't have keratin on hand, you can leave it out of the product and replace it with demineralised water.

ESSENTIAL OIL

The delicate and pleasant scent of lavender has a soothing effect. That's why it was chosen for our liquid conditioner spray. Of course, lavender is not the only choice in the field of essential oils.

If the range of essential oils is not enough for you, there are also fragrance oils - synthetic fragrances, but they have a wider range of scents to choose from.

If you want a purely unscented product, you can omit the essential oil from the product and replace it with either oil or water.

CONSERVANT

Due to the high water content of the product, the addition of a preservative is necessary. The preservative chosen for the hair conditioner is Euxyl PO 9010, which is broad spectrum and achieves maximum effectiveness over a wide pH range, from acidic to alkaline.

It is this characteristic that makes it suitable for our product, as it is effective over a wide pH range, making Euxyl PO 9010 suitable for beginners as well. The addition of a preservative should certainly not be omitted, due to the large proportion of water, extensive growth of micro-organisms and consequent breakdown of the emulsion and so on would quickly occur.

WARNING

As mentioned, you can experiment with homemade recipes to achieve the desired properties. However, many factors such as humidity, temperature, quality of ingredients and storage can affect the final result.

Before using any raw material to make a cosmetic product, familiarize yourself with its properties, recommended dosage, storage conditions or safe handling. Any raw material may have the potential to cause an allergic reaction in sensitive individuals, so before using a product, we recommend that you find out if you suffer from an allergy to any of the raw materials or the overall product, e.g. by a skin test.

If you have very sensitive or very acne-prone skin, or other skin and health problems, we recommend that you consult a medical professionalbefore applying a new product to your skin, whether it is a homemade cosmetic product, a pure raw material or a commercially available product.
