Product description

Push-up tube for lip balm sticks. The filling is pushed up by turning the knurled wheel at the bottom, and the tube closes with a sliding cap. The colour of the balm and how much remains are visible through the transparent wall, making it especially suitable for coloured and tinted balms. The packaging material is suitable for use with cosmetic products and meets the applicable regulatory requirements.

What it's suitable for

  • Lip balms – formulations based on beeswax, butters and oils that hold their stick shape at room temperature.
  • Tinted and coloured balms – the shade of the filling is visible through the wall, making selection and orientation easier within a set of multiple fragrances or colours.

The tube is intended for a mass that holds its shape after solidifying. Soft formulations that melt in the heat will break or remain on the walls when pushed up.

How to fill

Before pouring, turn the wheel until the inner platform is completely at the bottom. Pour the melted mass into the tube and leave it to solidify undisturbed until it has fully cooled. Only then slide on the cap. When using, the balm is pushed up by turning the wheel, and after use it is returned into the tube by turning back.

Leave a small gap below the upper edge. The tube should not be filled to the brim so that the solidified mass does not touch the cap and is not deformed when the cap is slid on.

Pour the mass at the lowest temperature at which it is still liquid. With a new formulation, fill one tube first as a test and check whether the solidified balm pushes up without breaking.

Good to know

Before the first fill, wash the tube and cap, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to dry completely.

The transparent wall protects the contents from light less than a coloured or opaque packaging. Therefore, store finished balms, especially those with essential oils and delicate oils, away from direct sunlight. The screw push-up mechanism is visible through the wall – this is normal for a transparent tube and has no effect on function.

The tube can be reused. Push out any remaining old balm, remove traces with warm water and a small amount of detergent, return the mechanism to the bottom position and disinfect the tube again before refilling.

Frequently asked questions

How do you fill a push-up lip balm tube?
The tube is filled with melted mass from the top with the platform pulled down to the bottom. Before pouring, turn the wheel until the platform is all the way down, pour the mass and leave to solidify without moving. Slide the cap onto the cooled balm only. Leave a small gap below the upper edge so the mass does not touch the cap.
Is the lip balm packaging suitable for cosmetics?
Yes, according to the technical documentation, the packaging material is suitable for use with cosmetic products and meets the applicable regulatory requirements. The tube is intended for stick lip balms that hold their shape after solidifying. The transparent packaging lets light through, so store finished balms away from direct sunlight.
Why does the balm break or not push up in the tube?
Most often the mass is too soft or the platform was not in the bottom position when filling. The formulation for a push-up tube must hold its stick shape after solidifying, meaning it must contain sufficient wax. Pouring at a lower temperature and allowing the mass to solidify completely undisturbed, without sliding on the cap prematurely, also helps.
Can the lip balm tube be reused?
Yes, the tube can be refilled repeatedly. Push out any remaining old balm and remove traces with warm water and detergent, return the mechanism to the bottom and wash and disinfect the packaging with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol before refilling. After each cycle, check that the cap still holds firmly.
How to protect the balm in a transparent packaging from light?
You protect the balm in a transparent tube from light mainly by storing it away from direct sunlight. The packaging itself does not shade the contents, so for formulations with oils prone to oxidation, use more stable oils and butters and keep finished tubes in a box or in a drawer.
