Product description

A bottle for liquid and semi-liquid cosmetic preparations where the contents remain visible at a glance. The 150 ml plastic bottle with a 24/410 neck thread is supplied without a closure, so you can finish it according to the product type. It is lightweight and shatter-resistant, suitable for facial tonics, micellar waters, body lotions, light oils, shampoos or shower gels in a volume for everyday home use and in the bathroom.

The packaging is suitable for direct contact with cosmetic products. In addition to cosmetic quality, it also meets technical grade standards, making it useful for household cleaning solutions or for storing custom liquid preparations outside of cosmetics.

Why choose a transparent plastic bottle

  • Visible contents – the clear material shows the colour, clarity and remaining amount of the preparation, which is appreciated with tonics, coloured gels or when checking whether an emulsion is separating.
  • Light weight and drop resistance – PET does not shatter when dropped on tiles, making it practical in the shower, for travel, postal shipments and anywhere glass would be a risk.
  • Round shape – no edges, easy to hold in a wet hand and labels adhere evenly around the full circumference.
  • Standard 24/410 neck thread – one of the most widely used neck types, with a wide range of closures available, from a simple cap to a pump or sprayer.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the quantity the bottle is designed to hold under normal filling conditions, and this is the figure stated on the finished product label. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck and is always somewhat larger. The difference provides headspace for the closure, the dip tube of a pump or sprayer, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

When filling with a pump or sprayer, leave enough room in the neck for the dip tube. If you fill the bottle to the brim, some of the contents will spill when the closure is screwed on and a contaminated thread will seal less effectively.

What products is it suitable for

For tonics and hydrolat blends the bottle is most commonly paired with a sprayer, for lotions, shampoos and shower gels with a pump, and for body and hair oils with a pump or a simple cap. Closures with the same neck type and ready-made bottle + closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. When using your own combination, we recommend testing compatibility, dosing and the behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation.

Transparency is an advantage for presentation, but the contents are not protected from light. Preparations sensitive to light and oxidation – for example oils with a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, vitamin C serums or products with essential oils – are better filled into amber or blue glass. If you stay with a transparent bottle, store it away from light and use the preparation sooner.

Good to know before filling

Preparation before first use. Before filling, rinse the bottle, sanitise it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow it to dry completely with the neck facing down. Residual water would dilute the preparation and could compromise its microbiological stability.

Temperature of the contents. PET is not intended for hot filling. Allow emulsions and gels to cool to room temperature before filling; otherwise the bottle wall may deform or turn hazy. For the same reason, the bottle should not be sterilised by boiling or in an oven.

Material resistance. PET handles standard aqueous, emulsion and oil-based cosmetic preparations without issue. With undiluted essential oils, higher alcohol content or more aggressive substances, we recommend testing the packaging behaviour on a single unit before a larger batch, especially for longer storage periods.

The bottle is not suitable for hot-fill preparations or for long-term storage of neat essential oils. For these contents, opt for glass instead.

Reuse and labelling. The bottle can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection, provided it is not scratched, hazy or deformed. Apply labels without stretching so that the corners do not peel over time. An empty, rinsed bottle belongs in the sorted plastic waste collection.

Frequently asked questions

Does the transparent 150 ml plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
No, a transparent bottle does not protect the contents from light. It is suitable for preparations that are not sensitive to light, or for products with a rapid turnover. For oils prone to oxidation, vitamin C or essential oils, choose amber or blue glass instead, or store the transparent bottle in a cupboard away from daylight.
Which closure fits the plastic bottle with a 24/410 neck thread?
Any closure with the same 24/410 neck type fits the bottle – a cap, pump or sprayer. The choice depends on the viscosity of the preparation and the desired dispensing method. Ready-made bottle + closure combinations and individual closures are available in the Handymade range. When using your own combination, test the seal with the specific preparation.
Can I fill a PET plastic bottle with a hot emulsion or gel?
No, the PET bottle is not intended for hot filling. At higher content temperatures the bottle wall may deform or turn hazy. Allow the preparation to cool to room temperature first, then fill. Do not sterilise the bottle by boiling either; use isopropyl alcohol or ethanol for disinfection.
Is the transparent plastic bottle suitable for tonics containing alcohol and for oils?
Yes, PET handles standard aqueous, mildly alcoholic and oil-based cosmetic preparations. With a high alcohol content or undiluted essential oils, we recommend testing the packaging behaviour on a single unit first, and for longer storage periods glass is preferable. Keep light-sensitive oils in a transparent bottle away from light.
How much preparation actually fits in the 150 ml plastic bottle?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 150 ml, not to the brim. The total volume to the neck is larger, and the difference serves as headspace for the closure, the dip tube of a pump or sprayer, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. If you fill the bottle to the brim, some of the contents will spill when the closure is fitted.
Can the PET plastic bottle be washed and refilled after use?
Yes, the bottle can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection with alcohol. Allow it to dry completely before refilling and check that it is not scratched, hazy or deformed. Residues from the previous preparation – especially oil or fragrance – could affect the scent and stability of the new contents.
